A fun evening at the oyster bar. Delicious, fresh, NC oysters.
They were incredibly busy and the food took a little longer than usual, however it tasted great and our server did an amazing job with the amount of work on his plate. It is so good to see the amount of teamwork that goes into making for a great experience. This is always our go-to restaurant for special occasions and date-nights. We love the food and drinks along with the interaction with the staff. Can't wait until next time!
Food and service were spectacular. Food is pricey however more than worth the cost. If you can avoid sitting next to the bar I highly recommend that. We had bar patrons hanging on the backs of our chairs and asking to take seats when someone would get up to go to the restroom. Other than that the experience was exceptional. Kudos to the image positive messaging in the lady’s room!!!
The food and ambiance was amazing.
Great selection on the menu, good food and very good service
In love! Thank you! If you're hungry for fresh seafood, you can't go wrong with 42nd Street Oyster Bar!
Table of 8. Service was excellent matched by the sensational food and ambience.
A must go to for visitors and locals when you are in the mood for seafood and history! Can't wait until the Saturday night entertainment returns!
Food was excellent and service was outstanding.
Food was just bad. No idea how this has so many positive reviews. We were super bummed.
We were disappointed in this experience at 42nd St. We have been there many times in the past, and the food has always been excellent and the service very good. From start to finish the food didn't measure up. The hush puppies were not freshly prepared and were barely warm. The Oysters Rockefeller were completely overshadowed by the topping. The Bacon-wrapped Scallops didn't even taste like scallops - tiny scallops overwhelmed by very salty bacon. My shrimp were tasteless and my husband said the fried oysters didn't taste briny at all and were overcooked. And finally, the key lime pie - ugh. It seemed to have been sitting around for several days. The top seemed to have a 1/8 inch scum on it and the rest of it had a grainy, almost flavorless consistency. As for the service - Jack couldn't be bothered to keep his nose covered with his mask. He was also not attentive, nor did he seem at all interested in providing excellent service. When he delivered our main course, he collected everything except two forks leaving us with no knives, and then he was gone so we couldn't ask for more. One of the worst servers we have ever experienced, especially at 42nd St.
We had a great evening and a great dinner. This was excellent.
Well we are long time paytron of 42nd and have over the years held out of town business meetings, multiple company Christmas parties and typically visit several times a month. Food was good however our evening experience was a challenge and we were little disappointed.
I haven’t been to this restaurant for a few years. The food quality was not as good as it was when I last went.
Couldn’t have asked for better service and food!!!
Wonderful and fresh seafood, the 42nd Street Oysters are outstanding, along with great service just outstanding
Birthday!! Awesome food and great vice!!
We were late but with notice. They held our table very nice. It wasn’t super crowded, but never got a refill on water. Service was very personable. 2 people wanted crab cakes and they were out at 7pm on Friday. Food was ok.
I don’t think I’ll return
Dinner was fantastic! The oysters were great raw, and baked. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and the wahoo was as well. Our server was there when we needed him and not when we didn't, and he knew the difference! A rare trait these days. All in all a great meal to celebrate our 33rd anniversary.
We'll be back
Great place to spend with friends. Service was great.
Great food and service - always. The value is very good because the servings are more than adequate.
The staff was very friendly and hardworking.
The food quality was poor. The “jumbo lump” crab cakes were mostly filler / binder and definitely not jumbo lump crab, as advertised. They looked almost breaded or like previously frozen patties - not acceptable for $32 crab cakes.
Not very busy on a Monday. Food was just okay. Kind of disappointed as we have been there many times. Server looked tired and stressed - feel bad for him. We gave him grace
There was no wait to get in on Monday night but the waiter tells me you need reservation for weekend. Very diverse menu for a fish lover. Good selection of wine and beers. The service was excellent. The time waiting for courses was very reasonable. The quality of fish we had was excellent. The desserts hit the spot. Very good hush puppies.
Big parking lot on premises and easy to get to in downtown Raleigh.
Great service!!! Excellent Food!
Everything was very good. It met all of our expectations
It had been a long time since we had dined at 42nd street, but it did not disappoint. Food was great and so was the service.
We were running late after a double overtime NC State game. We called the restaurant and they held our reservation. The wait staff was extremely friendly and the seafood pasta, clam chowder, and oysters were excellent. One of our favorite places to visit when we are in Raleigh.
The restaurant is outdated and food was not very tasteful. Our server was not customer service friendly nor personable. Much like a robot.
Family eating out together
Everything we ordered was delicious. Lobster bisque, crab cake, coconut shrimp and ribeye steak. Our waiter, Tyler, way great, too.
The salad was brown and my filet mignon was tough and tasteless. The coconut shrimp was amazing and so was the lobster bisque and cheesecake
Fantastic food, drink, and service. Blackened Mahi-mahi with Cajun garlic compound butter a must!
We really enjoyed our dinner at the 42nd St. Oyster Bar! Very pleasant, great food and friendly timely service! Even a handy parking lot!
Food was fantastic! We always try to eat here when visiting Raleigh
Second time there, found that the food was very salty. Probably won't be returning.
Great place to go and enjoy great food!
1st time and it was awsome
Excellent food, service is very attentive, however not overwhelming.
Excellent attentive service. Meal was mostly tasty. A few issues, minor but should be noted. Ahi tuna tasting plate. The tuna full of connective tissue. About a third was inedible. Salmon delicious! Baked oysters were fantastic.
