Unfortunately, we went there on it's last night in operation. They had some pretty outstanding dishes (charred carrots, roasted provolone), and some that were just good.
Am going to miss their reasonable wine list and their $5 Tapas night. Also their Pisco sours.
Fortunately, their big sibling, Mezzanote, is open just down the way.
Great dinner on a Friday night. Good by-the-glass wines.
429 American Grill has not failed to bring out superb food, with a variety of choices. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxing - unless a family comes in with young children and they are not trained to be in a restaurant. Dress is nice casual. The 429 Chicken and their Quinoa Salad is my favorite!
Ribs and pork chops were amazing.
The owners of 429 American Grille and Mezzanotte Ristorante Enoteca, Adriana and Gerry (and now their son as well) are always on site to make sure guests have a wonderful experience. This is exactly the kind of locally owned and locally operated restaurant every neighborhood wishes they had, and fortunately our does. Thanks
We had been to this restaurant when it was Piqueo, and we know that the owner of the outstanding restaurant next door Mezzanotte owns this place, so we expected that the food would be good. But we were all very pleasantly surprised at just how good the food was - we all has something different and each of us loved our meals.
The food was about an average price for meals this quality, but at least you are getting what you pay for, and maybe even a little more. Very enjoyable meal!
The Thursday special is an excellent choice. Our guest was very pleased with his choice.
The poached pear on the small plates is the best I have ever had. The only downside was my husband's sirloin, not the best. That was the first time we have had a meal that was not up to par. Our server Robert did an outstanding job, especially with the wine service.
It was a nice meal with unique dinner selection. I plan to return and try a sampling of the small plates.
Ambiance was nice. Food was slightly underwhelming. Over priced for what was offered. $11 for one okay crabcake and $8 for a kids meal is pricey. Has potential, needs to put more effort in the food. something when the restaurant is pretty empty on a Friday night at 7pm.
This is a gem.
We had dinner here before the theater and were very pleased with the great food and equally great service. We shared a few appetizers and though we were very pleased with the crab cake and mussels, the star of the apps was the grilled, glazed carrots. A delightful surprise. Three diners had fish dishes and one the flat iron steak. Everyone's dinner was perfectly cooked with fresh, flavorful garnish. Our only concern was how empty the restaurant was on a Saturday night. Good service, food, wine, value. I hope others find it before its too late.
Really need to kick up your service levels. Your waiting staff is horrible had. Drink refills. As well as the temp on food served
Food excellent and cocktails superb (basil martini very tasty and refreshing). Server was very attentive and helpful.
Everything was very nice. The only thing that spoiled it, was when my friend was told that the bread he asked for to accompany his soup would be charged as extra. The soup did not even come with crackers, so I think it is ridiculous to be charged for bread to go with your soup.
Steak was good...appetizer (empanada and chicken) were almost bad! Fruit/rum sauce dessert was really, really alsmost bad. Grits and bread were void of flavor.
nice variety on the menu to fit many tastes, from hamburgers to nice fish dishes
Food was decent, service was slow, Desert was best part and it made it all worth while.
Went there for a business lunch on Friday. It is a nice restaurant and the staff is nice too. We started with the Chicken Chicharron. It was pretty good. Nice flavor although I am not a fan of chicken with bones in it. We also had the Bacon Man and Cheese as an appetizer. It was very good. Next time I am going to order it as a side to my main course. I have the 6-oz. Filet. It was very good. It came with mashed potatoes (very good), carrots (flavorful but not cooked through) and green beans (flavorful but not cooked through). The others had the Salmon (very good) and Fish and Chips (very good). I will return to try other menu items.
Pork chop was great!
Enjoyed a nice dinner with my husband on our wedding anniversary. Food and service great. Quiet place to talk. We enjoyed watching some Olympics too.
The food was outstanding! The tomato basil soup was amazing! And the ribs? WOW! The only thing we were disappointed in was the wine list. We wanted a bottle, and although we found one that was ok, it was served very warm. Overall, it was a good place for a casual dinner.
Very slow service. Mediocre food.
I had the Shrimp and sausage appetizer and my wife had the Caesar Salad. Both were large portions and very good, although, they could use a higher quality Parmesan cheese on the salad. I had the Waygu Burger and my wife had the Pork Chop for our mains. The burger was excellent. The preparation of the pork chop and cheesy potatoes were not to my wife's liking. They have a small but nice wine list. I would go back, but I'm not sure my wife would. NOTE: My wife was disappointed as the Menu on line lists a Lamb Shank, but it was not on the actual menu.
The restaurant is beautiful, the service attentive but not over-bearing, the prices are very reasonable, and the food is outstanding. We really enjoy this restaurant.
Poor service, Average food, not up to the price. Waiter unattentive. I will not go back.
Menu was very well laid out with wonderful blend of american and peruvian choices. Service was excellent food very enjoyable. Reasonable prices
I hadn't eaten here since it quit being Piqueo. The menu was nice and the place has potential, but the food is not yet on par with the prices being charged. I had a piece of salmon that was overcooked to the point of being bone dry on the inside. My dining companion's steak was decent quality meat, but cooked over the ordered temperature, and not seasoned or finished with anything that warranted the price. It was good for a Luby's, not for a place charging what they were. I'll likely give the place another shot though, hoping some of this is just growing/restarting pains.
We were greeted special at the beginning with our waitstaff carrying out the level of service expected. The fish dishes were very good with great complimenting vegges and garnish. The entire evening was great with a great end to meal by seeing good friends come into the restaurant with other friends and having a chance to say hello.
Lovey little place. Comfortable, good free parking and very interesting food choices.
Crab cakes were excellent. Swordfish excellent. The Happy Hour drinks were fantastic. I had a Cosmopolitan and My date had wine. We really enjoyed.
First time since its change! Delicious and well portioned. Great cocktails and smooth service. Ask for Lilianna. Nice live music. Very relaxing!
For the money it was bad. For less expensive it was bad. The muscles were good but that was it. The shrimp and grits were oily. The steak was fatty, not a choice cut you would think you would get for the money.
At last, a neighborhood restaurant that caters to our over 30 crowd. Great burger, great service and entertainment that enables us to still have a conversation. Good job.
Enthusiastic servers and owners. Good wine selection, good bar drinks. Evolving menu and lots of small plates "tapas" to pick from. Easy to eat healthy, but tastefully! Away from the maddening and trendy crowd, it can be intimate, or girls night out, or easy lunch.
Wouldn't make a special trip over there again
Not that good
Musician was good
The ahi tuna and quinoa salad were great. Nice varied menu will go back to try. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and offered a birthday dessert when she found out we were clelebrating an occasion.
Since Gerry changed the format, we've not been able to try it, so did so on this occasion. The menu has a lot of the same client-favorite dishes but avoids the Peruvian emphasis. The food is always good at Gerry's restaurants and this is no exception. It's nice to have this quality in Cypress.
I had the pork chop with bourbon sauce. I wish I had the sauce served on the side. Bread served after ordering would have been a nice touch
A friend and I had dinner here just one week after opening and I was pleasantly surprised. I try not to go to restaurants the first month they're open just so they can work out any problems, but we wanted to go someplace close and since I love Mezzanote and also loved Piqueo, which this restaurant replaced, I was hopeful.
Our server, Grant, was attentive without being intrusive. I had the Longhorn Salad, which was huge, and the small plate of Shrimp and Grits. Both were delicious. My friend had a hamburger with Gruyere and carmelized onions and she loved that too. She also enjoyed the grilled veggies that accompanied it.
Overall, a wonderful addition to the neighborhood and even worth the trip if you don't live here.
While sad to see Piqueo going away, I'm happy that it is replaced by another great local place to enjoy fine dining. Menu is very varied while also keeping a few of the favorites from Piqueo. Food excellent with very good wine list. I had the flat iron steak with sauteed vegetables and accompanied by an excellent Malbec wine. Topped it off with those great little cookies that were my favorite at Piqueo (glad they kept those). Will definitely come back on a regular basis.
