About 419 West
419 West was opened to the public in May of 2002 by Roger Neel Jr. and Al Pollard, the same operators that started Corned Beef and Company and Frankie Rowland's Steak House. The building was remodeled to the current state with the addition of a perfect dome in the middle of the dining room, a hand built mahogany bar, two private dining rooms, and a state of the art "open" kitchen. The kitchen features a wood burning oven for our pizzas, and a charcoal grill seasoned with hickory chips, for our ½ Pound Certified Angus Beef hamburgers and St Louis Style Ribs.
The style of food is considered American with slight influences from the around the world and all over the United States. Whether you would like a multi course sit down dinner or are just stopping in for a hamburger or a pizza, we have menu items to suit your wants or needs. We would love the opportunity to serve you, so stop by to try one of our simple yet elegant dishes.

419 West Ratings and Reviews
A great restaurant....that once was. Typical of those that have been successful in the past and continue to let things slide relying on their old name. The "Metro" of South Roanoke. Food was mediocre at best. Server forgot to put in our order, then MR Ribeye steak came out WD flank steak with non-mentioned cream sauce all over the top of it. Crab cakes looked like a 2 ounce balls of fluff. There wasn't a single thing redeeming sans enjoying a glass of wine in the bar area. That seems to be the new 419 reliance. The bar...and it's scene.
Visiting from out of town - Made reservation via OpenTable - got seated immediately - that was the high point of the evening. Placed order at 6:40. Had to ask 2x for bread, and multiple times for bread - finally told they were out of bread - brought cold hand cut chips. Was informed multiple times - ‘ your food is coming up .....” asked for manager at about he 45 minute wait mark... 59 minutes (not that we were counting) after ordering - food arrived - still no manager - which was just as well. Chicken for Guest 1 was cold, Fries for guest 2 were missing and Swordfish - that was ordered medium rare to medium arrived at a toasty 450 degrees - beyond well done - tough and dry. Manager timed arrival with our food to apologize. I voiced our concerns very politely - sent back the inedible swordfish - Guest 1 & 2 ate most of theirs - & we left. Food was comped - I had Peanut Butter & Crackers with Bananas, Honey and Blackberrys - at our hotel. Not really upset - just disappointed that as a business dinner was totally destroyed by inedible food and giving them an hour of our life that we will never get back. To their credit they tried to minimize our unhappiness - I’m sure this is a rare occurrence here - place looks great & has great reputation. Staff was nice & professional - maybe stretched to thin.
This was a business meal to celebrate an excellent sales month for a Clint and his spouse. They p8cked the restaurant and it was a good choice. We all had sandwiches and salads and they were all very good. My chicken salad wrap was excellent and the portion was too much to finish. The salads were fresh, dressing on the side. Service was very good.
This was our second time going to 419 for brunch however will be our last. We arrived for our reservation at 12:30. It took forever to get our drinks then we did not receive our order until almost 1:30 and still one complete order did not arrive. When expressing our complaint for the amount of time it took to get our food we were once again told the exact same reason as the first time, “our kitchen has a problem when trying to serve brunch.” My suggestion, then stop serving brunch!!! The only thing the “manager” on duty could do was say, “I apologize.” I think he had a limited vocabulary and could use additional management training. If your kitchen is struggling that hard then go behind the counter and help the employees instead of just standing there doing nothing. He seemed to get irritated with us complaining. It’s a shame the service is so bad here, we absolutely love the ambience and food at 419 but they desperately need new management, kitchen or wait staff to be successful and survive!!!
Limited waitstaff but multiple hosts. Waited a long time after being seated before a waitstaff person asked if we had been helped. Once our order was placed the meal came out quickly. Never saw staff again until we asked for the bill. Food & wine were excellent
Broad menu offering a higher-end diner feel. Not quite the wood wine case type place the initial ambiance attempts to convey.
Our table kept to sandwiches and pasta as the steak and fish prices were high with low expectations given the breath of the menu. (Less is more, assuming you do the less well). According only comments I can offer is that the prime rib sandwich was quite good, but I've rarely see so little meat surrounded by so much bread. Was the kitchen surprised by receiving two orders and didn't want to say they only had a portion for one? House made chips are over cooked and were likely cooked earlier in the day as they offered no sense of texture of a recently cut and fried potato.
On the subject of potatoes, how does a semi-steak place not offer baked potatoes?
Overall food service was slow and pasta dish seemed to be forgotten by kitchen as it was late to the table and hardly looked like something a chef would approve. Sandwiches were light on the protein and heavy on the carbs. Staff started to clear table while some members were still eating (big etiquette error in my book), and waitress made no apology that one of four meals was greatly delayed.
Maybe just consider 419 for lunch or the bar. As a dinner restaurant there are better places for your dollar.
Very slow service, the chili was cold, the lava cake for dessert seemed microwaved, the old fashion was awful. When the service was really slow, no manager came over, the waiter just gave us free desserts (which the ice cream was good, but the cake was hot on one side and cold in the other). I honestly wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
This is one of my "Go to" restaurants in Roanoke for business meals and also for meeting friends. The food and service are always excellent and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The menu options are not exceptional but adequate and they are all prepared with care. They also have outstanding pizza from a brick oven if you want to go that route. Parking is usually at a premium so I suggest that you arrive a little early.
This restaurant is a favorite because the food and service are always dependable and very good. I ordered the chicken salad which is made with sliced grapes and almond slivers and is very good. She had a chicken salad rap which s also report as very good. And he had a large salad and also gave it high marks. Paring here is dicey so you may have to park in the rear or next door. Also, some of the tables in the center of the restaurant bounced your conversation to other parts of the room so pick a booth if your conversation needs to stay private.
This was our first trip to Roanoake, VA. We decided to have dinner our first evening at 419 West due to its top 10 rating on TripAdvisor. We arrived for our 7:00 reservation, were greeted warmly and seated immediately in a cozy booth. The only problem was the restaurant was a little too warm and cozy. The temperature reading on my glance at the thermostat was 79 degrees. We were already sweating when our order of drinks arrived. We placed our order at 7:15 and our food arrived at 7:50, 35 minutes later. The food was very tasty but the heat and the flies buzzing around the restaurant made for an unpleasant experience. I would recommend checking to ensure the A/C is functioning properly before dining at this particular restaurant in the future.
It took us 45 minutes to even get our appetizer and then our food shortly after. The steaks were very overdone. Wanted to send back but had waited so long. It was supposed to be a special night out to celebrate my sons college graduation but it was sub par and a real disappointment. We were compensated with a $25 gift certificate and appetizer but I would have rather have taken him out for a great meal.
I took my family here after my graduation from nursing school, and it was wonderful overall. Service was attentive, atmosphere was very relaxed and nice, and my 5 year old son and 6 month old nephew did great here (and I didn't feel like we were disturbing people). My only negative feedback would be the "nachos" - my son got the kids' nachos and my uncle got the appetizer nachos and neither one really liked them. The chips were not tortilla chips, not even potato chips, they seemed like some kind of fried crisp. Otherwise, though, the food was delish and I would definitely come back!
Disappointing from the time we walked in for our Easter brunch. The host staff was disorganized, as was the rest of the restaurant. Our waiter never came to the table and another server had to be flagged down so that we could get a beverage, twice. I never even knew who our server was until the check was dropped.
The state of the buffet was unappetizing, looking more like a black Friday sale than a quality $40 meal. Almost everything was out on the first trip to the buffet and still more out, like coffee on my last trip.
Will not go back and will not recommend.
Service was okay, slow at getting new drinks or items requested - refill, lemons for water, limes for beer, marinara sauce. Individual in the party ordered Wine from Wine List and it was not available, another ordered Champagne, and it came room temperature and unopened. When we asked what was good, wait staff said they could tell us what "others complained about - if we ordered it". One person got the $29 8oz filet, it was over cooked and very tough. Finally after much debate and talking with wait staff, he was given a new, cooked correctly, tender filet. I had the Diver Scallops and they were great. My husband got the Crab Cakes and they were too much filler and peppers, it took away from the crab taste all together - we would not order it again. The appetizers were good and reasonably priced.
