419 West was opened to the public in May of 2002 by Roger Neel Jr. and Al Pollard, the same operators that started Corned Beef and Company and Frankie Rowland's Steak House. The building was remodeled to the current state with the addition of a perfect dome in the middle of the dining room, a hand built mahogany bar, two private dining rooms, and a state of the art "open" kitchen. The kitchen features a wood burning oven for our pizzas, and a charcoal grill seasoned with hickory chips, for our ½ Pound Certified Angus Beef hamburgers and St Louis Style Ribs.

The style of food is considered American with slight influences from the around the world and all over the United States. Whether you would like a multi course sit down dinner or are just stopping in for a hamburger or a pizza, we have menu items to suit your wants or needs. We would love the opportunity to serve you, so stop by to try one of our simple yet elegant dishes.

Did not like raisin chutney that smothered the scallops- not a good flavor pairing! Lava chocolate dessert was just an over cooked cupcake-dry and no “lava”.We were charged $6 for ice cream scoop on the side! Expensive meal and not at all what I expected.

Service was terrible.

Food presentation terrible. Served crab dip with saltines. Out of food and portions were sparse. Appeared to have scraped my meal from bottom of the pot.

On the plus my wife liked her salad but I can get salad at McDonalds. Oops should not make this place comparable to McDonalds.

Review is for brunch. Best grits I ever had. Everything else soaked in butter and grease. Toast came out cold. Service was solid.

5 STAR? No but well worth the value we received. Friendly staff, indeed. We had brunch for a party of 8 and would not hesitate to do again. The food was completed nicely. Quite frankly I thought a bit under-priced but not complaining.

I think my kids hamburgers were better than my steak, I had requested med rare with a good sear... Overall we enjoyed our meal, but the place was a little dark and there were places the ceiling was falling down so it makes me question cleanliness.

I will go back to try a few other menus items to be fair.

This was our first visit to 419. As we frequently eat at Billy’s, Frankie’s, and 202, we wanted to try another restaurant of their group. The food was decent but the service left much to be desired. We had finished our appetizer and drinks before our waitress came back to take our entree orders. The cowboy ribeye was ordered medium- burnt on outer edges and very rare on inside. Entrees were finished and our water glasses were empty 15 minutes before the waitress came back. We may try again in the future but our first impression wasn’t great!

We came with family, so there were 8 of us. The seating was comfortable for all of us. The adults all ordered the bacon cheeseburgers with fries. Overall the burgers were very good, however the buns were all burnt on the top. The fries were hot, but were a little soggy.

Phenomenal steak! Everything was so delicious. Waitress was very sweet and even checked with the chef when we had a concern with the dessert potentially having coconut (food allergy). Definitely will be back.

No silverware or napkins no chicken on salad no bread had to ask ! But a very busy Eve and great music should have had more staff . I know easier said . But very very polite nice waiter . And super nice restaurant staff all the way . When the DJ is as good as Doug you have to recommend to others . And Robin is so nice to everyone even when I introduced my husband twice .

Ate here for new years eve. Had a reservation and got seated quickly!

Ordered calamari as an appetizer, this was delicious (the cocktail sauce to die for!). My partner ordered the mahi mahi with mashed potatoes and broccoli...the Mahi was amazing but the mashed potatoes tasted like the ones you make out of potato powder flakes and the broccoli was steamed, not really seasoned at all. Overall, fairly bland. I ordered the Grouper Mornay. Again, the fish cooked to perfection. The mornay sauce was good. The breadcrumbs they put on this fish though were SO salty it essentially burned your tastebuds off. If it werent for that, the dish would have been great.

Service was OK. It was new years eve though and they were packed, so....good as can be expected!

We chose 419 to celebrate New Years Ever dining. We have eaten at this location at other time and to be honest found the food to be hit or miss. It has been awhile since we dined there and we found a true change in the quality of service and the food. The food was wonderful and service was friendly and professional. I can't say enough good about our experience and will eat there more often.

I have been told by others in the area that the experience below is not an uncommon one at this place.

Very understaffed with management nowhere to be found. Our poor waitress was the only person covering the entirety of the main dining room with sporadic food runners appearing about once every 15 minutes to deliver food to a table.

Checks were visibly piling up in the kitchen while the staff were joking around.

When the food finally came out it was lukewarm and didn't arrive together.

Waitress was very kind and was doing her best but simply due to under-staffing and poor management the experience was a very unpleasant one. I'm surprised they have been in business as long as they have if this is their experience.

Our server was nice. The building has some water damage. Peeling wallpaper and stained ceiling tiles. The restaurant was not crowded, and we were still seated in the area with the damage. My omelette was burned on one end. This is also the only restaurant in Roanoke where I have eaten brunch and a side was not included.

As usual it was a very busy evening at 419 West so parking was again an issue. The food however was excellent - prime rib for me and salmon for her. Good service but the waitress was tied up with 2 large groups.

Nice enough atmosphere, and I really enjoyed the service, which was quite attentive. The appetizer (spring rolls) was delicious and well presented. But no one should be paying nearly $25 for a ribeye steak that, though nicely seasoned, for all three of us was tough and gristly. I doubt I will return.

The waiter had too many tables. We didn’t receive our drinks for 20 minutes. Our water arrived 5 minutes after our entrees, which were cold. Will not be going back. My wife got the shrimp and grits with 3 small shrimp, again which was cold. I got the diver scallops which came with 2 scallops. Overall a completely disappointing experience.

Avoid the mistake I made: The caesar salad w/shrimp is sad. VERY few (small) shrimp on boat-like chunks of romaine. Visually unappetizing. Avoid ordering a "glass" of wine -- big bucks for a few sips. A bottle is mucho denaro.

The bar is obviously the draw; the dining area wasn't full even though the parking lot was.

Had a date night with the wife. We've been to 419 several times over the years. Great atmosphere, good food, nice place for lunch or dinner.

Went for the Thanksgiving buffet for the second year. Nice selection of seasonal items, perfectly cooked. Will probably do this again next year.

Waiter was great; very friendly.
Only bad thing was the food. I got the chicken philly and the chicken was very dry and hardly any cheese.
Was disappointed in it; could not eat the whole thing.

The food was good but unfortunately we got there about 11:30 in the morning we were the first people there but it took 45 minutes to get our food because they didn’t have enough kitchen staff there to provide for the party that they had going on in the back room and to service the customers there for brunch. I will probably give them one more try because the food was tasty and enjoyed it

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the quietness of the table and surrounding area where we sat. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good food and good drinks whether going out to have fun or to celebrate that special event. the wait staff was very attentive but not overly bothersome.

The cocktails were delicious. The Ahi Tuna was terrible. Save yourself the money and pass on it.
