400 Olive A Modern American Bistro - Hilton - St. Louis Ratings and Reviews
My boyfriend and I went for brunch on a Saturday in February; meter parking was easy to find. There was only one other table occupied so it was quiet and we could have a nice conversation. Our server was Sherri and she was friendly and great at getting us whatever we needed, even getting our order correct after we changed some things and were being a bit complicated :) Food was really good; I had an omelet and got fruit instead of potatoes, my boyfriend had the frittata and said the breakfast potatoes were cooked perfectly and the best he ever had. Would definitely recommend!
Parking was a problem. Walking in we were unsure of exactly what was the restaurant and the lobby of the hotel. We were the only people in the "dining" area. The service was slow. Overall not really happy with the experience. The food was really good though.
Not busy as it was early on Sunday morning. Wait staff hanging out. After waiting 5 minutes I had to go up to them and ask if I needed to seat myself. I had to ask them to make sure I got checked in at OpenTable. Menu same as posted on website. Ordered pineapple upsidedown pancakes. 2 of 3 had thinly sliced freshed pineapple on bottom, 1 pancake was raw underneath, 1 of 3 had minced pineapple on top. Not impressed with service or food. Basically it was a breakfast buffet that offered menu if you asked.
This is the last time I will try a 1000pt restaurant from open table.
We were the only ones in this restaurant which is basically in the lobby of a fairly empty hotel. The food we ordered felt like it was warmed over in a microwave albeit with exorbitant prices.
Food was excellent. Service was poor though. Very few diners, but our soup and salad were forgotten about until the main course came. They did bring our soup and salad then and gave it to us free. Also forgot to bring ice water and had to remind them when we didn't get it. But the server was very nice and apologetic about the mistakes, so would recommend it as the food was delicious!
I made a reservation here for a group attending a convention at the Hyatt. The food and service were both very good, but the restaurant was very quiet, and for a long time, we were the only people there. The restaurant is in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel on 4th street. The feeling is as though the main business has moved to the newer Hilton. This restaurant is nothing extremely special or worthy of a special visit, but it is just fine for good food and good service.
This one does. While the lobby is beautiful, the restaurant within the lobby is very exposed. The staff was not well trained and was not very attentive. The food was fine, but the menu was not very interesting nor was the preparation exceptional in any way.
There's not a lot of cause to bother with this place. We obviously had OT reservations, yet we had to wait to be seated in a virtually empty restaurant. The wait staff is so nonchalant you wonder why they're in the business. I'm sure the food was better than I recall, but the service was so awful they the experience was destined to suck from the get go.
I will never return. I will never recommend the restaurant. I will be shocked if it's still open in 6 months. It shouldn't be.
We had to have the front desk find someone to seat us, as there was no one in the restaurant. We were seated and the waiter left us sitting there for ten minutes before coming back for our drink order, at which point, we informed him that he had forgotten to give us a drink menu. After we finally got our glasses of wine, I noticed a thick ring of detergent residue on the rim of my glass and had to ask for a replacement. When I ordered a steak, the waiter told me he would advise against it because he felt the steak was not a good value for the price, so I ordered a short rib for myself and chicken for my dining partner. When the food arrived, the chicken was pale and had a large, greasy chunk of fat hanging from it. There was no taste to it at all. My short rib was severely over cooked to the point where I couldn't cut it with a steak knife, nor could I chew it. My vegetables were still raw and I had to eat them with my fingers because a fork would not pierce them. For the amount of money we paid, I'd say we were robbed and the chef should be dismissed. It was an extreme disappointment and I would strongly suggest dining elsewhere.
Friendly service. Good food. Took awhile to locate hostess for seating. Food quality was really good. Presentation of entree could use some help...but it was seasoned and cooked deliciously. Located in a hotel lobby so the noise factor friends on how much foot traffic is present.
I won't mince words: The food was terrible. The restaurant had only one other customer, which should have been a warning, but we trusted the reviews. Sadly they must have been faked. We were seated by the hotel doorman who found us a server. The service was friendly, but since nobody else was there, that was a given. I felt like we were served reheated leftovers. Avoid this place.
We waited a couple minutes to be seated, then waited another 20 minutes or so before the server took our order. We arrived at 7:00 pm and got our food at 8:20. There were only 3 other tables in the entire restaurant. I'm glad we weren't in a hurry.
I went for the flash fried spinach salad. The best I've ever had. They took it off the menu. The mac n cheese was excellent. The steak was tough but had a great flavor. The pork Chop was also tough but tasted great.
They have a new chef and seem to have no management. I doubt I'll return.
Although the service was not quite to the level of my first experience at 400, it was certainly professional and adequate and the food compensated for any missed expectations. As noted earlier the portions are generous, well executed and quite innovative. This post-boat show visit on a bitterly cold evening was the high point of the day and I will certainly return.
Located in the lobby of the Hilton, 400 offers a limited but comprehensive dinner menu in a comfortable, open atmosphere. The bar is located some distance away from the dining room and appeared festive. Cocktails are thoughtful and well executed, entrees generous and meticulously prepared with creativity and excellent, fresh ingredients. Something not always the case in hotel restaurants and very much appreciated. Service was outstanding. Attentive but not overbearing and very personable. This establishment deserves considerable attention and I will surely return.
Located in the lobby of the hotel very quiet Infact we were the only ones in there.Very average hotel food . I had the steak it was just ok, my boyfriend ordered the chicken it was dry and had a funny taste. Our server was nice. Surprised it was a 1000 point table .
I found the restaurant to be quite nice. It was not crowded as most restaurants are on Thanksgiving. The menu was a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The food was very good. The service was very good also. We had a reservation and there was no waiting for our table.
It was all and all a very pleasant experience I would highly recommend this restaurant. It was everything we wanted for a holiday meal out. The only complaint I have is that there was no valet parking on Thanksgiving.
I had been there a long time ago (before the remodel) and thought it was good, so when the opportunity arose (restaurant.com) we went back. Its easy to find, the valet parking is convenient and interesting as it is located in a lobby of a historic building. It was my mom's birthday. The front desk brought over a St. Louis 'goody bag' I'm sure they give out to guests. Very nice surprise. The waiter, Jason was excellent, pleasant and also provided a double slice of flourless cake and candle. I had the eggplant parm which while I can't say is worth $18, it was good. My mom had the salmon with a side of spinach - lets just say she ate it all! My son had toasted ravioli and a giant hamburger which really looked good. We'll be back! Worth going!!
the ribs were tough and chewy. The beet salad has so few beets, I had to ask for more. Restaurant described its dress policy as business casual, yet the other party was dressed in Ts and shorts. Restaurant was in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel. The best part was the proximity to the Arch and discounted parking.
The food at 400 Olive was top notch. There were four of us and we each had something different - steak, chicken, fried spinach salad, meatballs. Each meal was prepared perfectly and delivered timely. The server was friendly and attentive. We could not have asked for anything different. However, we were the only people in the restaurant the entire time we were there, which was very disconcerting when we first walked in. We felt like it was a normal dinner hour (6:30p), so were very surprised no one else ever came in. We have nothing but compliments for the chef and the staff.
We went to 400 Olive thinking is was going to be typical hotel food. The chicken I had was delicious and the pasta my boyfriend had was fantastic! Our server, Nathan, was very good and the manager, Chris was also very friendly and went out of his way to see that everything was good. I would highly recommend this restaurant. They are re-doing it and we will be back in May!
The weather was extremely cold and the valet parking was full. I was forced to drop my date off at the front door while I drove around for ten minutes or more to search for parking. My date and I had seating in the back corner of the restaurant and had to request to be moved. The restaurant was serving dinner from a Valentine’s Day Menu and refused to deviate from the menu to accommodate my date’s food allergies. The bar was still serving food from the regular menu however because we sat in the restaurant we were unable to access the menu. We asked to speak to the chef but after twenty minutes of waiting, we chose to go to another restaurant.
While there was free valet parking, I had to go find the valet for him to take my car. Bad start. Then, even though we had reservations, there was nobody at the hostess desk. We went into the restaurant and there was absolutely no staff. Nobody was in the restaurant ataall. We walked around hoping some hotel staff might say something or a restaurant staff night show up. after 5 minutes, we tried going to the bar area. While there were people there, nobody even said hello. After 10 minutes of trying to get someone's attention, we decided to leave. This was my husband's birthday dinner so we were very disappointed. We ended up at a great restaurant down the street but I will be spreading the bad opinion about this restaurant.
