We have eaten at Forty a dozen times. Service, food are always excellent. When we travel to Bismarck for any reason, we always have dinner there. Yum!
Excellent food served from the kitchen and friendly service. Enjoyed the evening.
Moved me after I sat down. We’re slow to start, then brought all my courses out within 5 minutes of each other. Waitress was unpleasant. The salmon was dry (and cold when I started eating it, since it was brought out right after I got my salad). For the price point of the restaurant, it was very disappointing.
We cant Thank our Waitress more! We celebrated my daughters 35th Birthday and she was excellent! Food was amazing! And we weren't quite, the dining experience was perfect!
Don't understand how a restaurant that opens at 4 pm could be out of steak already at 4:30 among other menu items and the potatoes aren't yet available.
Exhausted from a day of traveling and wanted a nice dinner before settling in hotel. The food was awesome and came out in a timely manner. It was the perfect relaxing dinner! I absolutely loved the ambiance!
Honestly the food and serving service was good we were here on a Wednesday night. We had a very polite younger guy with shaggy darker blonde hair as our server and I don’t think there was anything he didn’t do, he went above and beyond expectations to serve us which flipped our experience for us. The hosting of this place is terrible. Came early for our reservation and waited for 40 minutes after our reservation on open table and NOT ONE server said “hi”or “we will be right with you” or anything. The worst part is we heard one server tell another to NOT seat us while in the hallway and both turned and walked away without letting us know they know we are there but it was quite loud especially when I’m saying “mam” trying to get their attention. Our server was the only one who smiled at us while we were sitting for quite a while and came to grab us to seat us immediately the first time we even saw him walk by. Everyone else wouldn’t even look at us or acknowledge us like we were invisible. And I tried saying something multiple times to the girls walking by but I wasn’t worth their time. We said at 45 minutes after res. time we would leave and lucky enough he came to say hi and sat us. I understand a staff shortage, it’s everywhere, but manners and keeping a customer informed is important. As one of the most expensive restaurants in Bismarck, if a party of 2 is spending $200 or more on food plus another 50-75 on tip there should be a ton more on communication and respect. But I will return, our server definitely made the wait worth it and food is very well made and came out in timely manner.
The food was outstanding, as usual. The place was understaffed. I counted a total of 4 servers, which included the bar tender who was also mixing and pouring all beverages (including soda and water) for the restaurant. She was our server and did the best she could as did the other 3 servers. I believe it was an unexpected crowd. We had stopped at a big name steakhouse chain first at 4:30pm, only to be told their dishwasher was down and would be at least a 2+ hour wait. I think many people, including us, then went to 40. Hopefully, 40 had at least one back up server they were able to contact to come in and assist with the crowd.
Very good. However waited over an hour for our food to arrive at our table. Waited 15 minutes for our waitress to take our order.
Best steak I have had in a long time, worth every penny
We love the many rooms they have and a short but good selection of red wines. Will be coming back.
It was fine… large portions. The seafood dish was really good.
We love coming to 40 Steak & Seafood because of the atmosphere and unique experience. This visit did not disappoint and the meal was great as well. If you're in Bismarck, you gotta try it!
The setting is very relaxing. The waitress was very efficient and friendly. The presentation of the food was good and tasted good.
Evening was fine, good food, excellent service.
Was disappointed that the 40 specials are not on the menu.
I had a steak and my wife had seafood, all undercooked. They didn't have the wine I asked for and instead brought a watered down something. Still charged me for it , also over charged for steak.
Hash browns which I have had before and loved. This time swimming in grease. We also had 2 appetizers pot stickers had noo flavor just tasted like oil. Thai chicken wrap was more veggie wrap. All in all the worst anniversary dinner we have ever had. Will never go back.
It is a very cool atmosphere inside and the menu is very vast. I enjoyed that everything on the menu was caught or brought in the day before!
Great food! Great service, prices are high but not out of line for good food.
Waited 20 minutes to get service which based on the reputation and prices seemed unacceptable but overall a good experience afterward.
Food was ordinary.
Took my dad for a belated father's day dinner. We had the best time. Food was so amazing! Waitstaff was very attentive. Quiet atmosphere so we could catch up and not have to yell to hear each other. I will definitely keep recommending this restaurant!
Great steaks, great staff, uncomfortable chairs though.
No mask worn by unvaccinated server.
Prompt service and great quality of drinks and food
Not impressed. Waitress was overworked and had no help. Table of ten came in our room after us. She was much more attentive to them. They seemed to demand it. Our orders were place well before them and when she started taking her orders - it took forever. Our food came - late and obviously had been cooked for some time and waiting.
Our ages steak wasn't anything special. For the prices here - the service and food should be outstanding. It wasn't.
Service was slow but not totally unexpected due to the current labor shortage and it was busy.
Two of us ordered steaks, they were poorly prepared. Medium Well instead of rare.
Our server was FANTASTIC!!! We appreciated the communication, the friendliness, the smile, and the attention to detail. It is nice to feel welcomed & appreciated!
nice place for a good meal, nice building for a romantic dinner
Absolutely the best service and food. I will definitely be back.
I go to the 40 once a year... I would go more often, but... $130 bill is not on my Dinner Budget. I am not looking for waiters in Tuxedos but, more than jeans. Why not bring food to the table on a tray? and (maybe) not have the waiter hang their thumb over the edge of the bowl? I appreciate the 1,000 year old Salt blocks and the dry age beef... but the 40 still seems a bit over priced. But, maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. Still, it is not anything exceptional but the dinner I had was very good, not a single comment. delightful. Such a satisfying meal.... but, the room was fine, atmosphere was fine, some soft music in the background would have been good, no table cloth... in other words... really nothing exceptional for the price tag. Yes, I will come back and enjoy another dinner... but, just sayin'... get a good steak at Texas Road House, or Longhorn... Oh and... some attention to the wooden boardwalk in the front... pound some nails and replace the busted boards.... see what I mean?
We had the Filet Mignon ($40) which was dry and under-seasoned with overcooked Au-Gratin potatoes ($6) and the dry aged Cowboy Ribeye ($55) which was so charred that it tasted bitter with undercooked Au-Gratin potatoes. I also don't think it was the dry aged as it was tough and did not have the distinctive dry age taste. The mushroom ($4) and onion ($1) topping was not caramelized well and very greasy. The best tasting item we were served was the Caesar salad ($5 each) on chipped plates. Service was not very friendly and only did the obligatory mid-meal check-in (other than taking order, bringing drinks/food, etc.). This dinner was for a special occasion and we were thoroughly disappointed. We could have spend one third of this at a chain restaurant and had better food and service.
Steaks weren't any better than those of lower priced establishments. Steaks and drinks were overpriced.
It had been many years since I had eaten at 40 Steak & Seafood, so I decided to take my wife and parents there recently. Aside from a slight mishap with one of our steak toppings, everything was great!
Outside can be a little off putting when you 1st arrive building seems very dark also the inside was quite dark but food was very nice
Everything was fantastic except I was very underwhelmed by the Cowboy Ribeye, couldn't even catch a hint of dry age flavor. It was a very good ribeye, just tasted like a fresh one. For the premium they charged for it, I expected more.
Server was great! Food was great and delicious. No complaints.
Way to expensive for a terrible experience. Happens every time.
The service, food and atmosphere was excellent. The restaurant building is rustic elegance and the food is top notch. Chef Alan is the best, he took the time to speak with us and made us feel so welcome while telling all about the history of the building. Great date night or special occasion place to go.
Overall experience was great for our first time. A little noisy due to some guests but overall a great experience.
The stakes are well seasoned and always melt like butter been happy all the times I have gone. Also they have a pretty good scotch selection to go along either the stake.
