39 Rue de Jean - Savannah
The adjoining hotel has a DJ that plays in their lobby and is very loud. I asked why can’t you close the adjoining door? It seems you can’t open it from the other side so it has to stay open. When I complained about the loud, intrusive music, the manager texted the hotel GM and asked that it be turned down, which it was. Why did it take me for them to realize how loud the music was? Owners-you need to get on top of this.
Our server, whose breasts were all but popping out of her blouse, never told us about the specials and we had to ask for bread. When we ordered our salad and entrees, we got our salads, which we finished, but no wine. Upon inquiry, we were told the wine would come with our entrees. ??? Training please.
Mussels were almost inedible. Totally undercooked, gelatinous mess.
I have been here many times, but until management gets the train back on the tracks, not again anytime soon.
Service was disconnected- entrees came out while we were still eating our appetizers. The delay for a cocktail order was because the bartender was in training!
We had mussels and Coq au Vin. Both were fantastic and reasonably priced. We will be returning! Server was fun and friendly, service was great. A great evening.
Manager and server was amazing!,, dessert was the best part of the meal. The short rib sandwich was pretty fatty, but everything else was amazing!!!!!!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by dining here. I was very glad the kitchen was on point, otherwise I would have been very disappointed with our experience. The food was the only good part. The manager who sat us at our table barely spoke to us and never smiled. He looked very disgruntled. Our server offered absolutely no suggestions, even when I was pouring over the wine menu. The glass I selected tasted as if it had come from a bottle that was opened a week ago and when I ordered a second glass, for comparison, she forgot to bring it. For a restaurant with $30 entrees, I expected better service than I’d get at a diner. My husband ordered escargot; the garlic butter was so fresh, I could tell it was made with care and we dipped all of our bread in it! He also ordered the rabbit, which was phenomenal, but the carrots were a bit under cooked and there was way too much polenta on the plate. The onion soup was well done, lite with delicious cheese. The chicken cordon bleu was perfectly cooked and the Parmesan cream sauce was excellent and full of flavor. I would definitely eat the food again, but I’d probably take it to-go. No one ever asked us if we were celebrating anything, so we went somewhere else for desert.
Our first time here and certainly won't be our last. We love the one in Charleston and this is certainly as good. The calamari was as good as we've ever had and our entrees were terrific. The service was spectacular. The chef even made an alfredo sauce special due to an onion allergy. If you're in Savannah this is as good as you'll find.
As a culinary trained Chef I balance my expectations.
I reviewed what looked to be an above average Menu.
I was greeted very kindly with southern hospitality and after that it pretty much was a slippery slope of disappointment!
The servers efforts was sincere - but not a well trained server.
We were a party of 7 - about to spend in excess of 5 to 6 hundred dollars.
With entrees are in the $30 dollar range - I expected more for the server and the culinary preparation of the food.
When I asked the GM for a couple of his suggestions from the menu - he said I’m liking the Lamb Shank right now.
And that was it !
Not a great response and to boot a tough under braised Lamb Shank.
I would not suggest going to this restaurant until they refine there service and method and preparation of the dishes.
Service was great, from the koment we enter until we left, the ambiance is so peaceful and relaxing. The food was delicious, I had the brasserie burger and my boyfriend had the filet mignon, with the bearnaise sauce. We both had their hand cut fries and shared the calamari which was also outstanding, their aioli sauce was delish. The portions were very generous and I think prices are very reasonable, we didn't have room for dessert, but would definitely love to come back if we ever get to be back in Savannah, and definitely will be willing to go to any of their locations. Overall a great experience.

We loved this restaurant! The food was delicious and was presented beautifully! The service was great! The atmosphere was great! It’s seems to be a little out of the way location wise compared to the other restaurants we ate at while there.
Highly disappointed with service and food, we were 1 of 4 tables at the time. Service was slow and food was a letdown. I never complain and I spend over $100 for 2 people fairly often, but this was a huge letdown.
We celebrated my best friend's birthday at 39 Rue de Jean and were very pleased with pretty much everything. We had two appetizers (escargot and beef tartare) which were both delicious, and shared the Plateau de fruit de mer (cold seafood platter for 2) which included wonderful oysters, two half lobster tails, crab salad, shrimp and (unfortunately very tiny) clams with three dipping sauces. We shared a fabulous, not overly sweet Crème Brulee for the perfect ending. Other than the clams, everything was just delightful. The prices were in keeping with the quality. I'd happily come back anytime I'm in Savannah..
Great service and even better food. The people in the kitchen clearly know what they are doing. We had a variety of different dishes, including their Sushi. Nothing disappointed. None of the burnt oil taste on the sautéed vegetables that you find in other establishments.
Went for the happy hour menu which we've done several times. The mussel preparations are excellent as well as the burger and pomme frittes. We did have an issue with the mussels as two orders first brought out were undercooked, a large number of unopened mussels. Management took care of the issue immediately and brought a fresh order that was cooked correctly. They also stated that they spoke with the kitchen. We go to Rue de Jean for the mussels. The flavors of their 6 different preparations are excellent! We had the Provencal and blue cheese with bacon. Also had the burger which was juicy and flavorful. The truffle pomme frittes can make a great meal with a glass of wine on their own. Portions are generous and service was efficient and friendly. Great crusty baguettes and excellent house wines make this a must try!!
Great customer service we felt welcomed when we approached the host stand and was seated promptly. Our server told us the specials and went thru the menu with us she also made suggestions. The food was excellent the drinks where delicious.
The wait staff, Sandy,was outstanding!!! Great help with menu and wine selection. She was lovely, pleasant, and really helpful. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared by Ben the Chef and his staff.As for the ambience it was warm and relaxing and even gave us an opportunity to briefly compare notes on what food we had selected. The escargot in garlic and butter were superb as was the PEI Mussels in a delectable red curry and coconut milk. It was a first for me and I would order it again.Overall we had a wonderful experience in your restaurant and would unequivocally recommend it to friends and family!! It was SUPERB!
We had 7:00 reservations in a wide open restaurant, but we didn’t get served. We left after 15 minutes of no one even coming to our table. Second time this has happened. Why we came back........I don’t know.
Four entrees - two were a hit (mussels and bouillabaisse), one a miss (very salty coq au vin) and one a mixed bag (scallops- great - on corkscrew pasta - heavy and not the best complement). All else good on an unusually quiet Friday.
We had a wonderful dinner. We enjoyed the Red Curry Mussels, Foie Gras was small but delicious,
Braised short Ribs and Coq Co Vin were perfect! Can't wait to return.
The food was great! Had the special of the day. Must try the poached pears for dessert it was amazing
We have been before and enjoyed it. This time the service and host were poor. Food was fine. We will go back and give it a second chance based on the food.
Vanessa was our server and she was attentive without being over bearing. The food and drinks were excellent. We highly recommend 39 Rue de Jean.
We always enjoy 39 Rue de Jean, though it is a bit pricey so we don’t go often. The food is excellent, we always get good service, and thankfully it is not too noisy like some other restaurants. I highly recommend it if you are celebrating something. It is good value for the money.
Pleasantly surprised to find a decent French restaurant in a hotel.
We had an absolutely marvelous evening. The food was outstanding and so was the service. We had forgotten how much we like it.
When they first opened they were all the rage. We had dinner there because it is close to Ships of the Sea museum and the Savannah Music Festival. The resturant was good and plenty of room at 6:oo p.m. Wine selection also good. I'd recommend it and we had a good time. Just a small step behind the better restaurants in Savannah.
We had a 9:30pm reservation which may have colored our experience. The steak was underdone, they were out of spinach, the fries were stale and the asparagus(extra cost) was blah- out of bernaise sauce as well. Had to ask for melted butter. No bread was brought to the table at all. I had 2 small crepes and overload of mushrooms and zucchini. The mesculin salad was very good. We were very disappointed and won't return or recommend.
Fabulous experience - look forward to returning sometime soon! Love the downstairs!
Rather slow service and the escargots were not so good... everything else nice though.
The server(Christina, I hope:)) was great as well as the manager Mr. Curry. We loved everything so much we came back and did it all over again the next day! Best menu I have seen in a long time and executed even better. I highly recommend.
Escargot comes in the beautiful shells. Foie Gras seared perfectly. Crispy Pork Belly was out of this world, beef tartare served with the Quail Egg still in its very elegant shell.
Mr. Curry is very knowledge and approachable when it comes to his wine list. The first night, we enjoyed a beautiful red Burgundy, 2011 Corton grand cru. The second night, we enjoyed a white Burgundy, 2010 Nicolas Patel Chablis Grand Cru.

Excellent, contrary to mixed reviews. Had the onion soup - lovely. Coq au vin - great..and chicken cordon bleu. Good portions. Fresh warm bread.
As good as their first restaurant in Charleston.

We went here for the second time to celebrate a birthday. Service was excellent. Server was prompt and knowledgeable, available but not hovering. Food was perfectly cooked. The drinks were great. The manager brought a complimentary dessert to the table paired with a wine and a story, which honestly is one of the reasons I like going. It reminds me of the experience you get at a small family owned restaurant. We plan on many more trips.
We have dined at the Rue deJean in Charleston many times over the years. We really enjoy the venue and the food. We happened to be in Savanna for a bit so decided to try the sister restaurant 39 Rue de Jean. The venue is quite nice but is a different vibe than Charleston. Not in a bad way. There is the Bistro feel with a nod to the antique mirror decor.
The food was excellent. The bread was up to their usual standard (perfect). Mussels in vegetable cream were perfect. My spouse my the Chicken Cordon Bleu as was very pleased. Our server made excellent suggestions on wines by the glass.
Overall, if you enjoy the restaurant in CHS, you will be happy here.
The food was not good, definitely not real French. The service was mediocre.
Decent meal ruined by poor service
The bartender & server Kristen should really get over themselves. My husband & I travel extensively, enjoy meals out often, & are always very generous tippers. This is the 1st time we’ve ever purposely restrained ourselves from leaving at least 25%. Trying to make friendly small talk with our server Kristen, about anything from the decor of the restaurant or simple questions about menu items, was met with such a condescending & obnoxious attitude that I’m not sure we would return despite the fact that my husband & friend did enjoy their steaks. I noticed that she did manage to muster up some personality with another table she served, but certainly couldn’t be bothered to do so with ANY of her visits to ours. My mussels, beef tartare, & pork belly were nothing special. The crème brûlée & flourless chocolate cake desserts were really good. We probably would’ve returned, with other friends in tow, to try other menu items. If we ever decide to, we will literally avoid this chick’s section in order to enjoy our experience... hopefully.
The food was top notch. Our table had rabbit, steak, salmon, the seafood tower, escargot, foie gras, drinks, and wine. The service was attentive. This was a busy weekend, and I didn’t know what to expect (St. Paddy’s Day celebration/parade in Savannah). We were seated exactly on time and had a leisurely meal to cap off a great day. I can’t wait to return to this restaurant.
We chose 39 Rue de Jean because the menu looked very good. Unfortunately the taste and preparation of the food wasn’t as good. We ordered French onion soup which tasted watered down. The chicken cordon bleu was terrible. The chicken had a gamey taste, a fatty layer of skin and lacked any kind of seasoning. The steak was ordered medium but was served rare. After being sent back, the steak was served medium rare. The french fries were the best part of the meal. Our waitress was very attentive. The service we received was excellent with the exception of the steak being served undercooked after two attempts. The price was too high for food that wasn’t very tasty.
Staff was great, especially Jeffrey and Kate. Food was super as well as happy hour.
