39 Rue de Jean - Savannah
Food was delicious and service was good. Restaurant decor is plain and a bit stark. Staff left the front door open on a chilly night, which made it uncomfortable.
The food was cold and badly prepared. I was shocked that this restaurant was so highly rated. I never post bad reviews, but I just had to. Also they were told to bring a birthday dessert as we were celebrating a birthday. They forgot, but the food was so bad that I didn't even bother to remind them.
Not what I was expecting from the previous reviews
The seafood platter for two it wasn’t special disappointed, the escargot needed more flavor and it was room temperature the butter should be very hot
Our waiter was very attentive at all times 👍the best part

Never disappoints... the black grouper on special was fabulous
Susan, Thank you for your continued patronage and for taking the time to share! I will pass the compliment onto the chefs. We hope to host you again soon. - Holy City Hospitality
I took both of my granddaughters for dinner and had a wonderful time. The food was excellent. And although the poor waitress was the only one working she still managed to be attentative and did not ignore us. Food was varied from sushi to steaks. Steaks were excellent and the kids said the sushi was very good.
Desserts topped off the excellent evening . We will be bringing them back very soon.
We enjoyed our first visit so much that we had to dine here again before we flew home. Best experience. Beautiful restaurant, amazing food & exceptional service. It's an absolute MUST when in Savannah!
Food was tasty and priced fairly.Overall service very good and i would definitely recomend it.
Food and service were great. Location and ambiance only ok.
Food is always great and the staff is always very accommodating to the special needs of my parents.
We had a very enjoyable dinner at 39 Rue de Jean. Food was very excelent. We shared the Plateau for 2 of shellfish for appetizers, and then the sea scallops entree and the shrimp provencal entree. All entrees were well prepared; the pasta in each dish was very light. Service was good and we were welcomed by several members of the staff. We definitely will come again.
Outstanding as always. The best mussels I've had anywhere!!
1-French onion soup was lacking in flavor. It was missing the beautiful golden baked top like the picture shown. Onions were not caramelized and the broth was pale in color.
2-My guest ordered the fish special and it was still cold and because of that a bit fishy tasting in areas.
3- My French style potatoes were still very firm. Needed to be cooked longer.
4- Dessert menu to me was lacking, passed on dessert which is rare.
5- over all I thought they needed to pay attention to the details a little more.
It wasn’t bad meal but didn’t blow me away. This was our last dinner of our vacation and was our least favorite meal on our time in Savannah.
It was our anniversary and they couldn't have been nicer. It was a Sunday evening, so not crowded. Our server Sadie was especially sweet. Always good food and service here!
Had another great experience at 39 Rue... We enjoy the variety of menu items, as well as the great service.
Excellent food and decor. Wait service was very friendly and accommodating. While excellent I would say the food was slightly overpriced but then again so is everything else in Savannah
I had charcuterie and cow au vin. It was delicious. My husband had beef Bourguinone and loved it. Nice wine selection too. Very satisfied with service and ambience.
We visit every time we are in Savannah. The food is fantastic, the desserts incredible... Though we were disappointed they stopped making the Vacheron!
The restaurant is always delicious and you can tell the Chef takes pride in the food that’s served! I’m a fan for life!
They were lovely. We were celebrating 2 friends birthdays and the staff went out of their way to make them feel special . Food was excellent S well . Will come back!
We celebrated my birthday here and had excellent service and drinks! Had a couple of hiccups with my son's entree but things were quickly taken care of by the mgr and our server. If celebrating ask for the poet served with the special dessert, it was fantastic!
Amazing! Our new favorite spot in Savannah and Charleston!
We had heard several people make positive comments about this restaurant so we were really looking forward to the experience. The short of it is that the food was quite good but there was no wow factor according to any of the eight people in our party. The thing that bothered us all was the lack of service. The place was not completely full and yet dirty dishes were allowed to sit in front of us for up to 30 minutes. Our food was incredibly slow in arriving and staff simply did not come back by to check on us enough over the course of several hours. When I discussed this with a friend in Charleston she mentioned the exact same experience at the same restaurant there. Having said all that ;all of the staff were very friendly and they gave a free dessert which was delicious. The ambience is very nice.
We are Locals to Savannah and this is our first visit. It was to celebrate my birthday and between the staff and the chef they went above and beyond to make my evening wonderful and memorable. I have food allergies and the chef went out of his way to create a special delicious dessert for me and although my steak was actually make wrong it was still incredibly delicious. The hostess and waitress made fantastic recommendations and took very good care of us and our needs. Honestly will add this restaurant to my list of favorites and look forward to another meal. The food and ambiance was delightful. Love! Love! Love!
My husband and I had a great anniversary dinner here. It was quiet and romantic, and the food was so great we even got two desserts!
We love the Sushi and Mussels, but the entire menu is always perfect- French inspired, or a southern twist, this is a restaurant you can never tire of. Their house wines are french and well selected, and only $4 during happy hour! Service is always friendly and prompt. Love this place!!
Okay as a hotel restaurant, but overall, not really a French restaurant in feel or flavour. Wait staff seemed understaffed or preoccupied. If you're staying at the hotel and don't want to venture out, you'll have a good meal, but in Savannah where there are a hundred fascinating alternatives, it suffers in comparison.
Great happy hour prices but you need to request the happy hour menu. Our only criticism is that the mussels were quite salty which has never been the case other times we have dined there. Our husbands very much enjoyed the burgers and fries.
Service was slow and it wasn’t crowded at all. Jermaine our waiter was nice and professional. He did regular check in with us.
Not sure if the woman going from table to table was the manager . She only asked my guest if his food was ok but not me. LOL! Then she later took away our plates and our bill arrived with no offer if we wanted dessert.
Ok. Food was ok but not great.
Menu was extensive, service was very efficient and food was tasty. Wine is expensive, and even though we were in the Happy Hour period no effort was made to provide us with a list of drinks or wine available. We will go back and try it again.
We are happy that you enjoyed your experience with us. I am sorry that you were not able to experience Happy Hour, as we have some of the best deals in Savannah! Our house wine (red, white, rosé or bubbles) is $4 a glass! Happy Hour is available everyday from 5p-7p so we can't wait to see you in again to experience this amazing deal. Kind Regards, Vaughn Postema-Digital Media Manager
One of our favorite restaurants in Savannah. Consistently great food and service!!
Hi, Kent! We are happy to provide you with pleasant dining experiences to the point that you have claimed us as one of your favorite restaurants! We do not take your kind words for granted. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Kind Regards, Vaughn Postema-Digital Media Manager
Great food and service. Went with four out of town guest. Can’t wait to go back.
The food was somewhat bland, but the desserts were AMAZING. The waitress recommended some great wines as well. I’ll be back for dessert and drinks for sure.
Food was good. Service sucked. Saw our waitress maybe every twenty minutes. The timing of food coming out of the kitchen was also poor. However, not sure if that was the kitchen or the waitress.
The adjoining hotel has a DJ that plays in their lobby and is very loud. I asked why can’t you close the adjoining door? It seems you can’t open it from the other side so it has to stay open. When I complained about the loud, intrusive music, the manager texted the hotel GM and asked that it be turned down, which it was. Why did it take me for them to realize how loud the music was? Owners-you need to get on top of this.
Our server, whose breasts were all but popping out of her blouse, never told us about the specials and we had to ask for bread. When we ordered our salad and entrees, we got our salads, which we finished, but no wine. Upon inquiry, we were told the wine would come with our entrees. ??? Training please.
Mussels were almost inedible. Totally undercooked, gelatinous mess.
I have been here many times, but until management gets the train back on the tracks, not again anytime soon.
Service was disconnected- entrees came out while we were still eating our appetizers. The delay for a cocktail order was because the bartender was in training!
We had mussels and Coq au Vin. Both were fantastic and reasonably priced. We will be returning! Server was fun and friendly, service was great. A great evening.
Manager and server was amazing!,, dessert was the best part of the meal. The short rib sandwich was pretty fatty, but everything else was amazing!!!!!!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary by dining here. I was very glad the kitchen was on point, otherwise I would have been very disappointed with our experience. The food was the only good part. The manager who sat us at our table barely spoke to us and never smiled. He looked very disgruntled. Our server offered absolutely no suggestions, even when I was pouring over the wine menu. The glass I selected tasted as if it had come from a bottle that was opened a week ago and when I ordered a second glass, for comparison, she forgot to bring it. For a restaurant with $30 entrees, I expected better service than I’d get at a diner. My husband ordered escargot; the garlic butter was so fresh, I could tell it was made with care and we dipped all of our bread in it! He also ordered the rabbit, which was phenomenal, but the carrots were a bit under cooked and there was way too much polenta on the plate. The onion soup was well done, lite with delicious cheese. The chicken cordon bleu was perfectly cooked and the Parmesan cream sauce was excellent and full of flavor. I would definitely eat the food again, but I’d probably take it to-go. No one ever asked us if we were celebrating anything, so we went somewhere else for desert.
Our first time here and certainly won't be our last. We love the one in Charleston and this is certainly as good. The calamari was as good as we've ever had and our entrees were terrific. The service was spectacular. The chef even made an alfredo sauce special due to an onion allergy. If you're in Savannah this is as good as you'll find.
