Great food with a solid menu selection. Was pretty loud and busy inside but we ate outside and it wasn’t terribly busy out there.
Delicious food, good service and nice ambiance. Returns next day for lunch.
Wasn’t expecting honky tonk music in a French inspired restaurant. Level of service did not match the pricing
Good service in a great atmosphere. The food is classic French and it’s done very well. Charcuterie was made in house and it was delicious along with everything else

Meals were very good with substantial portions. Order an excellent spinach salad with a wedge of Roquefort to share. When served we indicated we only ordered one. Server said that was one and already split. Dining partner ordered grilled pork chop
It was a double cut 2" thick easily sufficient for two and tender
Veal shank was excellent. This is a definite return next time we are in Charleston.
This was a great surprise find. A real French Bistro. Quite nice with in and out seating. Fantastic selection of Mussels with a variety of treatments. YUM! Joined them for lunch and next time in Charleston, we'll try them for dinner. Recommend them to French food lovers or someone wanting to try real French food.
Had a great brunch at outdoor seating. Waiter attentive to re-filling water carafe and checking on food order. Wonderful bowl of mussels served in broth with French bread.
Great dining experience in downtown Charleston.
Food was okay, service was okay
Would not recommend the steak. Table for four was extremely small.
Bryson our server was great. Food was not that great. Drinks were horrible
I used to go to this restaurant years ago. Its still the same! But obviously a new chef who uses too much salt! The moules pistou were always a favorite but too salty by a long shot last night. The trout amandine was delightful. A very large fish with head and tail! Perfect! But again the green beans were too salty.
I wanted to slam this restaurant due to an error in our seating, but can't. They have COVID issues like sides plated incorrectly but everything is corrected graciously and promptly. Drinks are very reasonable, food is excellent, and if you are lucky enough to have Cassandra as a server your experience will be wonderful
Always a great dining experience. Highly recommend the mussels!
Suggestion: get a sound engineer to analyze the acoustics. Normal conversation was impossible. The food was great, but the experience was disappointing
I gave it 3 stars because some of this is my fault - I should have sent things back when they weren’t right. Instead I drank/ate them, paid and didn’t complain. I ordered an Aperol Spritz and instead they gave me their version of the drink they have on the cocktail menu… which would have been fine if it didn’t taste like cough syrup. Other craft cocktails weren’t great either. Shrimp Provençal - asked for it without hot chili pepper flakes, and it came with them sprinkled all over. Pasta was mushy and over cooked. I ordered the filet medium and it came well done. Husband got 3 scallops with the scallop entree. Chicken franchise was like a piece of fried chicken. They did bring plenty of bread which was nice. But for the price, I was less than impressed with the service and the food.
The food was very good. We had the scallops and the shrimp. Both were prepared excellent with great flavor. We would definitely recommend the place and would go back. The service was also excellent
Always well prepared food, a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere and good service. For me, that makes it a Charleston favorite!
Brooke, our waitress was personable, professional, and efficient. Our food was delivered on time, and items ordered were correct. My pork chop was a bit overdone, and tough. The addition of brussels sprouts was far too much, as the entire plate was covered with the vegetable. The ambience was a bit old and out dated. Overall, the experience was good.
We made a reservation a week ahead of time ! We mentioned it was our anniversary upon making the reservation. We arrived 10 minutes before our time. The 2 hostesses Scrambled to find us a table. We landed on the smallest table in a corner with a waitress who has barely any idea about the menu. Service was slow, and inattentive. Food was excellent! Ambiance was nothing special. Soul Town music playing in the background for a French restaurant?? Noise level is loud. Desserts were disappointing :No floating island, no chocolate mousse.Lemon torte was a cake batter a French lemon tarte.
No white tablecloth. Overall disappointing!
Went for Sunday brunch, mussels were perfectly yummy and the sauce was energetically sopped up with the wonderful french bread.. out table had the omelet, fried goat cheese salad, eggs benedict with espresso and creme brulee for dessert... All AWESOME, as was our waiter, Jason. oh... and the bloody marys were to die for.
Can you tell we enjoyed it?
I ordered eggs Benedict and requested the eggs be soft what are received was overcooked eggs and very little hollandasie sauce. I don’t recommend this dish.
Our dinner was outstanding as was the service! Highly recommend!
The service was impeccable. The steak Tare tare was perfection. The bread was as good as theFrench could do it. But the Caesar Salad was drowned in a pre-made dressing. The second they brought was barely grazed with dressing. A French resturant should fix a Caesar at the table side the real way. That is the way it is do right.
The ambience is rather lack luster. I would go back did the tare tare, but nothing else.
Entrees were very Expensive
Yea. Yea. Yes.
Everything was perfect. We each had different cocktails, appetizers, wines, and entrees. All of our food was prepared perfectly prepared and delicious. The service was excellent, but not fussy. It was a wonderful meal and exactly what we have come to expect when we dine here!
Four of us had a variety -
The onion soup - incredible
Short ribs - wonderful sauce
Steak nicely prepared
Trout was nice
Plenty of food
Drinks were good and a wide selection of wines
We were not rushed and had a lovely experience. Not our first time and definitely not the last
Great tasting food.
Great experience. Very polite and attentive.
The food, service, and atmosphere at 39 Rue de Jean are consistently top notch. We are never disappointed. One of our favorite places in Charleston. Highly recommend the short ribs and the onion soup!
A great meal with excellent service. Party of 4 and all enjoyed their evening
Delightful evening, escargot delicious as well as the potato soup! Pork chop was more than generous… The crispy brussels sprouts Were tasty and a sharp contrast with the sweet pears. Our waitress was very attentive. Great location, walking distance to Hilton Hampton Inn Historic District.
Good was fantastic
Went for dinner. It was moderately busy but the room is extremely loud. Food was ok. Muscles were extremely salty, dinner for our party of four didn’t come out in a coordinated and timely manner with my daughter getting her plate 15 minutes before my wife got hers and there was another 10 minutes before the rest of us were served. Very unprofessional from that standpoint.
Food was great and service was good. We had four different meals and all were delicious.
Enjoyed returning to one of our favorite downtown CHS restaurants. Liked the new version if the arugula/goat cheese salad better than the mezclun version we used to order. Mussels were
We sat outside so noise was not an issue. Food was great but service was very slow
