Steak was way overdone as was the pork chop. We had a birthday reservation and they sat us next to the bathroom. Smelled cleaner all night. Quality not even close to what it cost. I would not recommend!

I’ve been to rue de Jean many times over the years since we first moved to the Charleston area. It is my all-time favorite restaurant!! One of the main reasons is that the food is always delicious, and the service is always perfect even when there are tons of people in the restaurant. For tonight‘s dinner, I brought a friend who hadn’t ever been to 39 Rue de Jean. We had the mussels which is one of my favorite dishes, along with the braised Brussels and bacon. Our waitress suggested we share the mussels as the grande was quite large. She was so right! There was more than enough for two of us. In fact, we could not finish the mussels. We so appreciated the waitresses suggestion. It would’ve been heartbreaking had we ordered even the smaller serving and not been able to finish. Everything was perfect. As usual. 😃

Lots of hype and hard to get a reservation for here. Food quality and prep was very good, but overall the restaurant lacks in creating a fine dining experience to match its prices. Our food was delivered even before our drinks arrived and it felt more like a place that’s interested in turning tables than about the customer experience.

We were sat about 8 feet from the bar and it was extremely loud and we had to ask to be moved. Appetizers came out and one was wrong and it was brought to us a second time before they brought the correct dish. Steaks were both completely raw in the middle and had to be sent back. On top of one side being wrong. One steak was so burnt on the outside by the second time (medium) that it tasted like charcoal and was inedible. No manager was seen. Ruined the night. Definitely one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had. Dissapointed

It was awhile getting our entrees but we had wine and we’re happy. However, as we were finishing our meals, the wait staff began cleaning around us. They took up all the chairs, removed the table covers and began sweeping. It was very awkward because we had arrived at 7 and it was now about 845. We had waited patiently try for our meals and now felt we had to rush to leave Also, my husband is an onion soup aficionado and rates this dish wherever we dine. He felt it was way too salty, very thin, and hardly any onions

4 of us had dinner last night and we had 4 different meals. Everyone loved their entrees and we enjoyed a few appetizers and deserts as well. The food was great and and no one was disappointed. The presentation of all the dishes was very appealing as well. Our waitress was amazing and very attentive.

The hamburgers are excellent. I had the mussels in olive oil and basil. It seemed there was more oil than broth and wasn’t very tasty. Fries excellent as well.

Chose the Charleston Week Menu with additions and Bordeaux wine: pea soup, lamb shanks, puréed mashed potatoes, string beans and chocolate torte. Luscious. Our waiter was delightful and attentive and Mike the manager corrected a minimal inconvenience. Great, first- time experience.

Great place I’m adding to my list of regulars in Charleston. Great mussels, the Brussels salad was HUGE and unique cocktails (has anyone ever heard of a spiritless old fashioned?) All in all, a Charleston staple.

I have eaten here several times and had great meals. I decided to try the restaurant week special. The pea soup was good. The swordfish was ok. The rice was very salty and the butternut squash was way undercooked and too hard to even chew. The apple cake was very cold and stale. A very expensive disappointment.

Our server was nice, but we cannot recall her stating her name. The pea soup was phenomenal! Absolutely delish! The lamb was PERFECT!!!! There was no gamey taste. The meat was tender and moist. This was the best lamb I ever tasted. The apple cake was good . The alcohol beverage was ok. The swordfish was good, especially with the tomato bacon jam, however…..the butternut squash was disappointing. It was cold & hard, totally undercooked. Pieces of the rice were also undercooked.

The restaurant was crowded and extremely noisy. Soups were not served hot and several meals were either dry or too salty. The ladies room was disgusting. Waiter wasn’t as attentive as he should have been. This was extremely disappointing as I was the one who highly recommended it to my group of friends based on our previous experiences.

39 Rue de Jean never disappoints. We took our pet and were warmly seated on the patio. It was Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy which made service a little slower than why we have experienced previously. We shared an order of delightful Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer. The shrimp provencale and trout were good. The trout was served whole which is the classic presentation. Removing bones did reduce the enjoyment of the meal.

Green beans served with the veal châteaubriant were either mushy or not cooked enough, the sauce with châteaubriant was just awful. Also the side order of French fries was greasy that we didn’t eat half of it, honestly I don’t know when they change their cooking oil last time. We won’t return there we will spend our money where we received something for the $.
