317 at Montgomery Street Ratings and Reviews
Do yourself a favor and get there! My husband and I have enjoyed dinner at the 317 on several occasions and have always been pleased with the service, ambiance, and exceptional cuisine. We recently visited prior to a show at the War Memorial and we could not have been happier. I had the mixed green salad and market fish (halibut), and my husband had the Caesar salad and filet mignon, all of which were delicious. The restaurant is walking distance to several venues in downtown Syracuse, including the War Memorial, Oncenter, Civic Center, and Landmark Theater. We will be back!
What a find! I was seeking a place for a nice date with my wife that i had not tried before in Syracuse. I found this on a search for this date. REally nice people, service and atmosphere. GREAT food! Hands down the best filet I have had in a VERY long time. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Well worth the prices.
We really enjoyed the restaurant. We were the third reservation of the night but the place filled up quickly. You can pretty much guarantee you’ll have a conversation with your neighbors because there isn’t much intimacy or privacy when it comes to the seating.
The food was great and came out hot. Desserts were fantastic.
We will be back again.
We had a WONDERFUL time as a family at this restaurant. We were in town one night for Syracuse Parent's Weekend as well as my daughter's birthday. Each one of us loved our meal and the friendly service was so spot on. We were offered seating right away as they were ready for us when we arrived. The waiter was great as far as special requests and informing us of ingredients... as well as just being pleasant. No one rushed us out and we were allowed to stay and enjoy our time together. I would HIGHLY recommend.. for groups or date night... all good! THANK YOU!
We were looking for a quiet, upscale experience while in Syracuse, and 317 was recommended to us. Used the app and made a quick reservation, and plotted the GPS. We had to park on the street in front of a YMCA with a bunch of menacing guys staring at us. I should have taken it as a sign, but we parked and walked down the street and into the restaurant. No hostess. No waitress on the floor. No bartender behind the bar. We stood at the door, waiting. The table near the door asked "What do you need?" Not the best first words to hear at a supposedly fine dining restaurant. Another diner at the same table then said "Just come on in. She is in the back," and the first voice chiming in, "and she's doing a hell of a job." They all laughed. I was livid.
A woman popped out of the back and went over to that table to chat, saw we were there and I said we had a reservation. "Oh ok. 2?" No hello. No welcome. I asked if we were allowed to park on both sides of the street. The table laughed at my question. This type of behavior went on for the next half an hour. The hostess/waitress/bartender is friends with the obnoxious table, who kept cracking jokes about us and staring at us. The waitress just stood at their table for large chunks of time, chatting away.
Food was good, nothing special.
After that table left, it was the quiet dining atmosphere we were looking for. The waitress stopped acting all awkward and distant, and in a small way helped save this place from getting mostly 1 stars. We realize that we do not know her, and do not know which was the fake personality, but pretty sure it was with us, which is fine, but at some point she should have told her friends to quiet down, stop staring at us, and to stop making fun of us. That courtesy would have went a long way in salvaging our terrible experience.
We will never go back and will certainly never recommend.
We have been here several times and always come back because the food is so great and the atmosphere is lovely. This time we were disappointed with the service, as there was only one staff member there who was hostess, waitress and bartender. We were the first guests of the evening so things went well in the beginning but after more people showed up we were ignored. Disappointing ending to an otherwise nice experience, as we were never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. Hopefully they will have more staff on hand next time.
Second trip to this restaurant; live an hour and a half away. Got messed up on our reservation time, our fault, but they were able to accommodate us. Restaurant was full; concert at the Dome....but only one waitress on the floor. She did her best but was clearly overwhelmed. One would have thought they'd have brought in more staff for a busy Saturday night! Didn't approach our table for nearly ten minutes. Since we were going to show, ordered drinks and entrees at same time. Entrees were served and waitress had to be reminded to bring our cocktails. Food was good; wish we'd had more time to get appetizers/dessert so will allow sufficient time next visit.
It was a great experience. The food was outstanding and great presentation and amounts. The tables seemed close at first but it was very comfortable and friendly. There are a couple of very nice private areas. The staff was as friendly as it gets. We were in town for a concert and had a great time.
Fantastic ambiance, as usual. One of our favorite spots for a quiet and intimate dinner. The salmon and jerk mahi dishes were good. The "curry" sauce on the mahi could have used more curry and less coconut cream, but was still tasty. Good wine selection. We were there late on a night that had been unexpectedly busy, so bread and desserts were entirely gone. But we still enjoyed a great meal with great atmosphere and great service. Recommended.
Great place to dine downtown Syracuse. Love the quiet atmosphere with light jazz in true background music that allows for good conversation without straining to hear or shouting. Calm refined atmosphere. Having been a regular customer during past year, food is becoming consistently superb. Menu selections are increasing, creative combinations that enhance the taste experience and entree size that is satisfying without overfilling. Wait staff is pleasant and attentive without hurrying the customer. Thanks.
We were greeted with a friendly smile right off the bat and had a great cozy table up front near the window to people-watch on the street. The wine selection was excellent. We had some specific requests to alter a dish and they were very accommodating. We shared the Caprese salad w/ heirloom tomatoes. Fantastic. The Chilean Sea Bass special of the evening was excellent as well. Highly recommend 317 @ Montgomery for a very nice "date night"meal
After visiting about 6+ times in a year with 2 poor food experiences (entrees overcooked and dried out), gave this restaurant another try. In the past, they have served an unrequested appetizer which has always been fantastic and unusual; missed that this time and hope they do so again. However, all items ordered turned out perfect this time, from appetizer to entree, it was superb and as expected from initial few visits. We really enjoy this restaurant for its location, and ambiance--it is quiet enough for good conversation and the background music is low and mellow jazz, with an intimate decor. It is so rare to find a restaurant in which you can hold conversation without going hoarse and having your ears blasted out. Thanks.
This was our first time trying this restaurant. We really enjoy local Syracuse dining and like to give new places a try. The restaurant itself looked really nice. Great ambiance and cool vibe. We had reservations at 7 pm on a Friday night and there was only one other couple dining which made me worried. The hostess promptly sat us AND she was also the server and bartender. The wine list was good and had everything on the map. We ordered an $85 bottle of Cakebread. She poured our wine and took our appetizer order and also dinner order. The meal did not include bread or salad. Our appetizer was Brie with berries and crostini. It came out like a soup. Tasted good but was weird. My dinner was a shrimp orzo pasta with sweet potato and it was very dry. My spouse ordered the lobster risotto which was delicious. Dinner ended when the wine ran out and overall I spent $185 including a 20% tip. It was just ok. The total time spent was one hour and 15 mins. We like to linger sometimes with anextra drink or coffee but because it was dead was no fun.
Our server was very pleasant but seemed not to be very knowledgeable about the menu or prices of the products which was a red flag. I have no idea why they were not offering ala carte options that night. The server mumbled that it had something to do with management changes. Anyway - would expect more for a three course, $75 prix fixe menu in Syracuse. Server wasn't really attentive if I'm being honest. Courses weren't delivered together. We waited to begin every course because not all the plates were delivered. Food was OK but plating wasn't very well thought out. I don't want to totally trash the restaurant but we couldn't wait to leave. We passed on the dessert and coffee. The gentleman who cleared our table was pleasant as well.
Food was good but service was extremely slow. We had 5:45 reservations and a show to get to by 7:30 ... thought this was plenty of time. We did not get our main meal until 6:50 and then had to rush through our dinners. They were clearly understaffed and did not account for the fact that there was a show in town and it was SU, SUNY Oswego, Lemoyne and OCC's college graduations! Our waitress was also the bartender!!!
What a great find in Syracuse! Charming restaurant with a small"ish" seasonal menu but one which has a wide variety and everyone should be able to find something appealing-we had 3 different main dishes and all were excellent-as were salads and our dessert! We will definitely return!
We had a lovely window table. Everything was wonderful: the wine suggestions; the tuna tartare appetizer; rack of lamb, bouillabaisse --even the coffee. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Charming interior. This restaurant should be crowded. You are missing a gem!
Third time here and we'll be back!
Dinner at 317 Montgomery was delicious. The room is lovely with the exposed brick walls and wood floors of the historic building. Wonderful ambience--- nicely appointed but one can go in jeans. The owner made sure our experience was great and the food was creative and delicious. I hope to make many return visits!
