312 Chicago Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I come here frequently for dinner before we go to the theatre. The menu has a good selection of fresh entrees that are reasonably priced. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. We advise them that we are attending the theatre that evening and they schedule the meal presentation to coordinate with our theatre reservations. I have also come here frequently for business luncheons and the experience has been equally good. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This was perhaps my 10th dining experience at 312 Chicago, this time again for a pre-theater lunch. The hostess was understanding when I called ahead to say we were running behind because of traffic. When we arrived, she seated us promptly. Our pleasant waitress took our order promptly and our food came out quickly. My wife’s salad and my medium-rare flat-iron steak with fingerling potatoes and asparagus were just right. A terrific pre-theater lunch! We had plenty of time to spare to get to our seats at the Cadillac Palace Theatre next door. We’ll be back to 312 Chicago!
Restaurant was very busy as expected as it was a lunch time ahead of a show at the Cadilac theater. Place was very crowded even at the table. My daughters flank steak was very grisley in the middle. The pasta was very good as was desert. Recommend just checking the meat prior to letting the server go to make sure it looks ok. Otherwise a nice place to catch a bite before the show.
The food is always delicious here and the portions are appropriate (not too huge). I usually get the salmon which is great, but this time I got the special jumbo shrimp and brussels sprouts which was really good. The waiter sold us on the salami chocolate dessert which was quite a disappointment (especially for the price). The cake was quite dry, and the combination of the raspberry sorbet and the pistachio cream made it all too sweet. The service was great as usual.
Service was fast and the waitress and support staff were outstanding. Food was tasty and prepared as requested. The room was a bit noisy especially after a large party was seated in the adjoining room, but not so noisy that my wife and I could not carry on a conversation. It is definitely not a cheap place to eat and the Chicago sales tax (12%) did not help them. All said, it was nice dining experience.
312 is THE perfect spot for a pre-Broadway in Chicago show especially a show at the Cadillac Theater next door. Traffic from the suburbs was awful the last night we were there (Valentines Day) but calling to let them know we were running late, not only holding our table on a big night, they really took care of us as we came in with less than the full 90 minutes prior to show time we had planned. Valet parking at the Kimpton Hotel next door, they took our car quickly and had it ready at the curb following the show. Great friendly service and the food and drinks were outstanding. A regular spot for a business lunch for me, this was my first time for dinner. We will be back.
Admittedly, it was Valentine’s Day, but service was only adequate. The room was only 2/3 full but still not great service. Food was adequate to fine. Good Brussels sprouts and octopus apps. Scallops prepared nicely but the vanilla sauce was way too sweet. Not to mention, 8 made it clear i didn’t want any dairy. Tasted like melted ice cream. Clearly made with dairy. Terrible special dessert. Waiter obviously knew nothing about it but still pushed it on us. We sent it back. Awful flavors and weird textures. Fine for pre theatre but there are many better options.
This is one of our favorite spots, and we are now on their list for our favorite table when we make our reservation. Traffic from home is always iffy, but this time we were just under a half hour early, but the table was ready and the smiles were genuine. We lingered over our wine and studied the menu (including the three course prix fixe di cena menu). I chose the specials, a wonderful red pepper soup and a shrimp and scallop dish over lentils and mushrooms, both of which were excellent. My wife had a beautiful and perfectly cooked piece of salmon which she praised. The choices were well-described and well presented.
My friend and I have been here several times, always for lunch, before a play. It is especially convenient if we are seeing something at the Cadillac Palace, literally next door.
We continue to return here because the wine list is ample, the service and waitstaff are excellent, and the food is delicious. We always allow about two hours for lunch because we like to experience a nice meal without being rushed. My friend and I like to share entrees, and the kitchen divided it up before being served. This was much appreciated by both of us. Also, the young man who brought us our bread explained the options and told us that we would "love it." We definitely did.
I would highly recommend 312, and if you can, ask for the booth at the back of the restaurant, on the first floor. It was perfect to visit with my friend, while watching the people come and go in the restaurant.
We were seated on the main floor. It was very cold. We were then escorted to the second floor and given a choice table. It was warm and cozy! The service was fine. We were delighted with the menu choices and the food was divine. We can't wait to go back. The wait staff was most attentive. We exited the restaurant from the second floor to go to the theater. One guest had left her coat on the first floor. The waitress took her check and sent the busboy to retrieve it - a very thoughtful act.
I had date night at 312 Chicago during Restaurant Week, and I was very happy with the experience. The food came quickly and was tasty. Although they do not have a lot of vegetarian options, they do accommodate, and the options that they have are flavorful. The Cavolini was amazing, and I would definitely come back.
