About 31 Club
Seated at the corner of South Elmwood and North Johnson Park, the 31 Club is one of Buffalo's finest restaurants located right in the downtown area. From the swanky bar, to the spacious dining and private banquet rooms, a classic name made famous in the 1940s returns to its original, rightful home with a fresh, fashionable face. With a historic background that pre-dates the 1900's 31 Club was the first mayor of Buffalo's home, Ebenezer Johnson served as mayor from May 1832 - March 1833 and then again from 1834 - 1835. His home was known as Johnson Cottage and was a well known place for socializing. Today 31 Club carries on the tradition as a hot spot for who's who in the city and is one of the best places to eat, drink and be seen.

We love the 31 Club! The veal scallopini was scrumptious. My partner had the salmon which we had to send back because It was not quite cooked but when it did come back it was perfect. It was a little disappointing to have to send it back. The clams casino are some of the best in Buffalo the bread was great and so was the salad. As usual. One problem of the 31 club in the winter is there is a back door and sometimes if the band is coming in or someone is using it there's a little draft. They need to keep that Curtin shut or turn up the heat temporarily. We had the gelato with espresso and poured it over to make our own affigado . It was excellent. Then we went out to the bar and dance to Speeder Parker and Dolly ...really really fun! Love it when you can have a little dinner and dance and dessert and dance ...it's like an old time supper club!
I've had two great meals at 31 Club in the past three weeks. Unfortunately, our last outing wasn't so good. I'm hoping it was just an off night because the place is usually really nice with good food and great service. This time it took 15 minutes before the host showed up to seat us and only after I had to get the bartender to find him. He couldn't find our reservation, had the wrong number of people and didn't have the booth I'd requested. The waiters were just as confused. One said he was our waiter - then he left never to be seen again. Service was very slow. The food was subpar and cold. One guest returned her's because it was so cold. The waiter said it was supposed to be served room temperature. Veal? I don't think so. Even the salad was bad - brown lettuce and some off putting spice. I had wanted my friends to spread the word about how great this place is - especially in the winter - but it was a total disappointment for them. $300 for 4 people. They're not coming back.
We had very slow service: waited for our table, despite reservations. They suggested we wait at the bar. We ordered two drinks at the bar and 15 minutes later we still didn’t have them. When our table finally was ready it was located in a high traffic area with a cold draft from a side door that was open from time to time. Overall we were very disappointed with the experience ( despite the good food)
6:45 reservation and we didn't leave until 9:15. We were told the kitchen was backed up and offered dessert. It was not busy. We ordered an appetizer and an entree each. The table next to us arrived at 6:30 and didn't receive their entrees until 8:30. They were quite unhappy.
It was a much needed date night with my husband before a concert. We were immediately seated and Cindy our waitress took very good care of us. Our meal and appetizers were excellent and the price wonderful for fine dining. One of my favorite restaurants hands down.
We had a really great and delicious dinner, but if you book through Open Table and want the shuttle to Shea's, be sure to call there ahead because they did not have the shuttle running-they needed a minimum of 6 to run it. They did however call in the driver because another group also booked through Open Table and assumed the shuttle was running. The food was delicious and the wine list was very good! Will definitely go back!

After wanting to go here for more than a year, we finally made it, out celebrating with friends. The food was excellent, the service impeccable! Perfectly cooked filet, prime rib that was half a plate in size, and an alfredo sauce that didn't look like soup -perfectly clingy to the linguini noodles! One of our friends asked for a chocolate martini and though it was not on the drink menu the bartender happily made it for her - so well, in fact, she had a second one! In all honesty, the restaurant is a bit pricey - but if you're looking for a special place to celebrate with friends, romantic evening out, or even to bring a business client for that hard-to-forget meal, the 31 Club is it! Small parking lot in the back of the building helps, too!
My husband and I went with our 2 friends for a 7 o clock reservation. We were seated around 715 which was perfectly fine. We were having a great time so when it took a little longer for food at first it was okay but when our salads didn't come out until about 8 o clock we were getting quite hungry. The restaurant was busy but not packed and it was restaurant week which is why we decided to try something new. The salad was quite good and The server brought out a few servings of bread as he knew the food was taking awhile. I've been in the industry for over 12 years and have managed a restaurant for about most of them so we are understanding of things taking longer and kitchens being overwhelmed but at about 8:45 we were extremely hungry. The manager came over and said our food was being plated however our friends had to leave for a rec hockey league so we said ok well eat it quick and go but 3 of the entrees came out and it was another at least 5 minutes before mine came out. The food was okay and I told the server it's not his fault as it wasn't but it just was quite an underwhelming experience especially watching a couple be sat after and finish their meals before ours even came out, and it just won't be a place we go back to.
It was restaurant week so the place was very busy. We had to wait 15 minutes past our reservation before being seated and than waited for service for 15 minutes before I questioned the host as to when we might get waited on. After my request the waiter showed up and took our orders. The food was terrific once we got it but slow coming out of the kitchen.
I use to always come here. It was worth the drive from Rochester. Never again!!!! Had 7:30 reservations. Didn’t get seated until 8:15. The place was half empty. Which we didn’t mind we were having a drink. They were out of Tito’s vodka... but whatever I had wine. My friend goes to order a second drink. They ran out of cucumbers couldn’t make it. We sit it takes 1 hr and 5 mins from the time we ordered to Our appetizer the another 45 mins to get our food. . The table next to us sent there food back. Meatballs were cold. There was 8 people at the table all of them got their food at a different time. My food was sooooo greasy I couldn’t eat it. My friend his pork chop was hot. Sweet potatoes were ice cold. Brussels sprouts ice cold. It was suppose to have chuntney. It came with 4 whole grapes. So they give us free dessert and they were out of cream brulle. Besides the drinks were 25 dollars and dinner was 86. No thank you I will go to Russels or Salvatore for good service and food.
They were very busy so it took a few extra minutes for the waitress to arrive at our table. We had asked for a box to take our extra food home but it did not arrive when we left. Service was a bit slow and we think it was due to the very busy dining room on the other side of the restaurant.
Unfortunately it took so long to get our dinners we were late for our concert. The restaurant offered to keep our left overs & dessert in their fridge and said they'd be open when the shuttle returned us. However, they were closed, door was locked and although we reached someone by phone, they couldn't find out entrees... only the desserts. My phone number was left for them to contact me if they found them. Two days have passed and no call. Very disappointing.
The food was great. Reaervations was for 7 and i was asked to go to the bar and the host would come get me . I watched a number of couples get seated ahead of me, and i was aggravated but didn't want to spoil the evening. When i went up to the counter , i was told yes we will seat you now and they placed us in the corner of the bar room. The table had been open the entire time. If i wanted to sit in the bar room, i would have ate at the bar. I was not impressed with the greeting and service by the host
while the food was better this time then last and our server and busboy were very nice and responsive it was an overall negative. I made reservations on open table and the next week I called to make sure they still had a shuttle to the concert hall. The person I spoke with said they'd mark my reservation. While responding to the confirmation call I learned the shuttle was full and we were not on it. I was very upset to learn this but Will said he'd provide a taxi if needed. When we arrived I had to repeat the story 4 times and Nicholas said it was not possible since the shuttle was full prior to my phone conversation,I felt he was questioning my veracity. My husband was so unhappy by this situation he told them to forget the taxi, he drove. His credit card was left behind, The next day he was all but ignored when he went to retrieve his card. He finally got it but we won't go back.
We're fortunate enough to dine out frequently. Looking for a change we decided to try 31 Club. It was one of the best meals we've had all year. I don't know who the new chef is but he's right up there with Mike A and Hutch. It was simply delicious. Caesar salad, chicken florentine soup, chicken Marsala and rack of lamb were all outstanding. The fresh warm bread was a great start.... and it came with amazing house made roasted garlic butter. Strawberries Romanoff was the perfect desert to finish the meal off. It was actually real strawberries romanoff - not some pseudo version like most places would serve. The wine list and hand crafted cocktails were great. Our waiter was extremely professional and helpful. The ambience was perfect - we had a candlelit romantic booth. Buffalo has a lot of great restaurants but if you're tired of the old standbys try 31 Club....it's one of the top three restaurants in town. I can't wait to go back and just have drinks and snacks at the bar.
With a nice selection of delicious varied dishes to choose from, 31 Club is sure to have something for everyone. Highly recommended for those who are visiting Buffalo and are looking for a taste of fine dining and don't mind the cost. Food was worth the expenditure. The cozy interior of the restored restaurant allows for intimate dining experiences, as well as special occasion experiences for groups. Conversations might carry a little, but overall the atmosphere is much what you would expect from a fine dining establishment during a night out. And making a reservation ahead of time through Open Table was easy, though it wasn't crowded at the time of our visit.
