Thanks for making my mother's birthday so special, the menu acknowledgement and dessert were very appreciated!
The service was wonderful and the food was perfect. Medium rare beef was actually served medium rare, which unfortunately has become difficult to find at restaurants. Ambiance was quiet and reserved which made for a nice, relaxing dinner.
We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I mentioned this in the optional comment when reserving on Open Table. They greeted us with personalized menus. It seemed as if the chef was only cooking for us. One of the entrees (quail) was a bit delayed because they redid it since the first one wasn’t to the chef’s satisfaction. We didn’t mind the short extra wait, had more time for conversation. When it came out, it was the best quail we ever had. All dishes were exquisite! And of course desert was a surprise too as it was on the house due to the wait! The chef came at the end to greet us too!! It was quite the culinary experience. We will definitely be back.
Some things to consider: most tables seemed to have business meetings, there was also a large (loud) gathering. The space is big and tall and quite noisy. But the view of the lake and the extraordinary culinary experience made up for it.
This is my second visit to 2941 for lunch. While I have not been there for dinner my business meetings went well and the servers are both attentive but respectful of the need to let business take the front seat. The food was very good and portions just right. Other servers made sure the water glasses were full. Definitely a good restaurant to host a business lunch. Would like to try a business dinner in the future.
I am in disbelief- what happened to this place? Food was 4 stars, but I don't think I have ever has such horrible service. Went for wife's birthday, Monday night. Started out wrong from the start. Waiter was vague at explaining the menu – did not understand the ingredients, and when he did not know something, it was the craziest thing – he made stuff up or he pushed back like we were asking too much info. Got the cocktails wrong 2 times, didn’t know the basics about wine (tannins, anyone?), and made what should have been a great dining experience, into one that was exasperating. There was no vegetarian entree and I politely asked what the chef might do for a creative substitution with vegetables. Waiter came back, “the chef can throw some veggies together.” What??? I asked him what vegetables, and he did not know. How is it prepared - don't know. He made me feel like I was asking for too much information. The closest I got to a response was, "do you want pasta in there, or a red sauce." After asking 2 or 3 different ways to get him to go back to the cook find out, I gave up. Ordinarily I would have asked for a different server and / or to speak with the chef, but I just ordered a soup off the apps menu and told them to serve it with the entrees. I didn't want to distract from our celebration of the birthday girl.
The worst part was that he ruined the presentation of the presents. My children had handwritten cards for their mom, with heartfelt messages that they had taken over an hour to compose. Server poorly choreographed the plate presentation with horrible timing. Bulldozed right through their poems. I was recording the kids reading out their cards to their mother, but this guy put the food on the table obstructing my recording. I tried to signal to hold a moment, and the waiter responded, “but your food is hot right now.” Are you serious?
We won’t be returning here.
The food was amazing and the view just lovely. A real treat. Can’t wait to go again. The passion fruit dessert to die for!
Good delicious as always. Service not up to par, perhaps because they were at capacity
Birthday dinner for my wife, service was great...
As always simply superb! The place, the service and the food have kept this as my favorite restaurant for now a good 5 years! You cannot go wrong with this place! We simply love it!
Absolutely delicious, creative meal -- as usual. Had a wonderful time
beyond wonderful. just... perfect. every time. i dont' know how they do it. :)
We have been frequent diners at 2941 over the years, and always very happy with food, ambiance, and service (well, they could return to having loaves of the awesome olive bread on the hostess stand for you to take home in the later evening after dinner...probably a remedy to throwing away unused loaves but so awesome!) The service on Easter Sunday was disappointing. Our waiter, whom we recognized from many past meals, could not be bothered to make eye contact -let alone a pleasant exchange along the lines of "welcome, happy Easter,"as he took our order. He vanished before we could tell him our selection from the children's menu for our younger daughter; we had to flag someone down to make sure she would get something to eat. We never saw him again. I would have had a glass of wine with my meal, but no one inquired if I would like one (I had an aperitif, and had finished it before the first course was cleared). The main course portion size was more than I could finish, however all three desserts the adults ordered were tiny! It was an extremely disappointing experience at a restaurant we know well. And no, the dining room was NOT busy-we were there for a 4:30 reservation on Easter Sunday... most of the traffic had been earlier. Only about half a dozen tables were occupied. Maybe they were tired-whatever it was, it showed, and it was not worth $80/person. It will be a good while before we return.
We were excited to dine at 2941, in its hidden oasis. The waitstaff was excellent, and the setting mellow, despite a full dining room. The French food was elegant, but for $75/person for 3 courses, not a great value. The appetizers and desserts, except for the Cherry Bombe, were tiny. Tasty and unusual, yes, but really tiny! Only the main courses approached reasonable serving sizes. Since all beverages, coffee, tea were extra, and a 20% tip was added, we left wondering how far our $300+ could have gone for a different brunch in DC, or closer in. We would hesitate to book a special occasion, prix-fixe meal here again.
It was a great pleasure going back to the 2941 Restaurant after a few years. The ambiance is top notch, a very beautiful restaurant. The food and service was outstanding. I will go back in a few weeks with a few close friends, who are foodies. I would highly recommend the 2941 Restaurant, and I consider it one of the best restaurants in the Washington, DC area.
Excellent food and great service
Great service. A bit of a splurge for brunch ($78++ for brunch/person)
Wish they had music in there. Kind of sterile. Even a 1980s harpist would be better than nothing.
I do not understand being served stale bread at high-end restaurants, but 2941 seems to be falling upon hard times.
We had the ribeye, salmon, and short ribs. The presentation was beautiful and the portions were quite large. Most importantly, the taste was excellent. We went for a birthday celebration and would definitely go back to this restaurant.
We thoroughly enjoyed dining at 2941 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Will definitely be returning.
2941 has seriously up'ed their game. It was always good food and service, but this recent trip proved that this is a great go to for haut cuisine. The tasting menu was fantastic. The chicken dish, cooked and served sous vide style, was the most amazing chicken any of use have ever tasted. The salmon on lobster bisque foam was also outstanding. Everyone loved their dishes. The ability to bring your own wine with a reasonable corking fee was nice. Service was outstanding. This is great for business, date night, special occasions, but seriously, please leave the toddlers at home. No one wants a little kid rolling around on the floor when you are at this type of restaurant.
Wonderful birthday lunch, attentive service, beautiful view. Hope to return soon
Excellent food, and very extensive wine list. Made our special dinner date more enjoyable!
Service was excellent and the overall experience was fun. I've eaten lunch twice and dinner once at 2941 and have not been disappointed. My only suggestion is to expand the appetizer and entree menu for dinner. Add a chicken or foul dish. My wife generally doesn't eat seafood and chose the salmon - which was delicious. But she doesn't want to eat salmon every time. I had the beef and it was excellent.
Fantastic! It was my birthday and they made it special and fun. Julio is a great waiter. Fun sense of humor. Food was delicious— everyone had a great meal. I had the duck and it was excellent.
Creative dishes and nicely paced.
We have eaten here on many occasions and have never been disappointed. This occasion--Asian Week--was no exception. The prix fixe menu of $35 for three courses was an incredible bargain and, as usual, everything we ate was scrumptious, service was impeccable, and we left knowing we will be back again.
Awesome dinner. Never disappoint. Our server, Marc, has always been excellent. Highly recommended.
Simply, the best meal that we enjoyed at any restaurant, easily surpassing Michelin 3-starred luxe spots or those highly-rated by local/international publications. Executive Chef Bertrand Chemel, new Pastry Chef Nicholas Pine, and the 2941 team brought us to Cloud 10! Everything we ordered was superb to exquisite, perfectly seasoned and harmonious every bite or sip of the way. Being Asian American Restaurant Week, we enjoyed the impeccable New American-French interpretations of notable dishes from East and Southeast Asian cuisines. Our favorites among the savory courses were the Miso Soup with Lobster-Shrimp Dumplings and the Whole Fried Snapper with Spicy Basil Sauce and Steamed Rice. The former was heightened by the meticulous broth and truly lovely dumplings, while the latter was sublime texture and spectrum of flavors. Among the sweets, we loved both the Sakura and Spicy Mango--both full of fantastic flavors, aromas, and textures while presented as works of art. Add to it all, outstanding service and the most beautiful ambiance, the overall dining experience was truly spectacular from start to finish!
We are never disappointed and Friday’s luncheon experience followed suit. We were intrigued by the Asian Week price fixe menu and booked for that reason. The entrees of calamari and chicken sate were delicious as was the Thai curry main course. Dessert was wonderful, and the French/American/Asian fusion was an unmitigated success. We can’t wait to return for another innovation week.
Asian restaurant week, a first for us. Didn’t know it existed.
This is one of the better restaurants that we visit from time to time. We went in this time to celebrate my daughter and son in law's anniversary. It was Asian Week and we decided to try their tasting menu. It was OK good... their usual level of excellence was somewhat lacking this time. Waiters were unusually slow this time around. We still plan to return as hoping that the next time they will be back to the 5's that they normally deserve.
Ate at Asian Restaurant Week. Meh. Flavors were lacking. No spoons pre-provided for two soups. Staff didn't know what chopsticks were.
At least they moved away some from "everything floral" which really should be the theme of the restaurant.
I used to like it here, but I think I'm done.
Was there for Asian Week, last night. As always, thrilled with this restaurant. Food, service and locale wonderful
I was excited about restaurant week, and to see 2941’s spin on Asian cuisine but came away a little disappointed. The pho was delicious but not very inventive... maybe a bit too heavy on cilantro. The bulgogi dish was pleasantly spicy, but not balanced by the rice underneath at all. I’ll come back for the a la carte menu and the awesome cocktails, though.
Went for their Asian special week. We hadn't been there in a long time (since they had revamped their menu) and were pleasantly surprised by the experience.
Upscale, very good restaurant in a beautiful setting.
The menu is limited to only seafood. No options for a healthy menu.
We were disappointed in the menu choices. I don't particularly care for duck or fish, so was limited to two choices.
When I was eating a piece of your olive bread, I bit on a pit and was concerned that I may have broken the tooth.
I mentioned that to our waiter immediately and to the manager as we were leaving. The manager was sympathetic and gave me his card in case I had damaged the tooth.
