2941 Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We've been meaning to come to 2941 for a long time and regret having put it off. Service was relaxed and not intrusive, but sufficiently attentive. All courses impressed--a salad of fall greens for her and tuna tartare for me. There was a hint of heat in the tartare (and one notable chile seed). The main courses were outstanding--risotto with mushrooms for me; gnocchi with truffles for my dining companion. The sommelier came by and recommended two good choices for wine to accompany our main courses. The Puligny-Montrachet was a perfect match for the meal and a good value at the price.
2941 has become our go-to place for celebrations, whether it's an anniversary or Thanksgiving or whatever. The food and service are always top notch. The mushroom tartine and tuna tartare appetizers are the most popular, and it is easy to see why. Both are scrumptious. The roasted duck breast was served in sausage-style chunks rather than medallions. That was a bit surprising but still very tasty and cooked to perfection as ordered (medium rare).
The only complaint I had was that my first glass of wine (the Eola Hills Pinot Noir) was not great, which I should have known when I saw it came from a screwtop bottle. However, my second glass (the Merlot Blend from Bordeaux, France) was superb.
Our server, Jennifer, was the best and really made the dinner special for us. You should ask for her...it would be worthwhile to do so.
Been there many times. Mostly when Jonathan Krim was the chef, but this was a great meal and great service. We took the a la carte instead of the tasting menu only because it was late and we were not that hungry. Wine list is fairly priced.
Beautiful place and a real resource for Northern Virginia
I always enjoy my meal at 2941. We did the 5-course tasting menu, with wine pairings, and it was even being offered for a reduced price! The wines were all very tasty and paired well with the interesting food courses. I really enjoyed all the selections, but the fish (bass) course was particularly good. Service was exceptional all the way around!
My wife and I️ went out for a night with out kids. We enjoyed 2941 so much we are discussing our next visit. Our server was attentive, but not hovering, and was very helpful in deciding what to get.
We went with the chefs tasting menu, great decision, and had a nice “adult” dinner. It was just enough food to fill us but not leave us feeling as if we ate too much. Every course was delicious and elegantly plated.
A definite revisit is in order.
Hands down 2941 is the most beautiful restaurant in the DC metro area although I loved it more when one of the original Rodin Burghers of Calais was on display. The artwork went from unrivaled masterpieces to Jose Alvarez’s contemporary colorful works, which would work better in a different setting.
Also 2941’s baker serves incomparable breads, alone worth the visit, this time as in the past, the chef presents a seasonal and creative menu without being uber foodie. Service is excellent and cost is in keeping with the area. My party didn’t have wine at lunch so found the bill for five of us a good value.
I have dined here on 4 different occasions. This restaurant has beautiful views and superb service. I highly recommend it for Diners who can appreciate a sophisticated wine list. The food is excellent, but a few times I thought their specials are a bit over priced.
Our server told me that they prepare protein on the rare side. I ordered medium and got well done. She noticed and avoided us for the rest of the meal. The French fries were very good. The iced tea was very good. My friend raved about the squash soup. And the goat cheese salad.
everything was phenomenal. The only issue we had is that they had only 2 servers working. So, we had to wait a while until they came around to us. As for the service itself it was above and beyond. I didn't have change to tip the valet and he offered for me to leave extra and he would make sure that they would get the tip
The service was great! The mushroom appetizer was awesome! The sea bass dinner was fantastic! The steak dinner tasted like it was over cooked and tasted like it was cooked in an oven. It was not that great and way too dry. I wouldn't order a steak from there ever again. Other items on the menu looked like they would be definitely worth a second visit.
We went to celebrate our anniversary along with another couple and had a wonderful time. Ambiance was perfect. Service was great. The food was to die for. Our entire group had a great time. My only knock (and it is a very, very small one) is that our appetizers and the sides had too much salt. Other than that, could not have asked for a nicer evening.
Have been going to 2941 for years. This was our first bad experience. Our waiter kept ducking away and it took almost 20 minutes to get a glass of wine. At one point we had empty dirty dishes on the table for 20 minutes before they were cleared. Same delays on getting the bill.
BTW: Prices are creeping up significantly to match highest prices in the city.
This used to be our "goto" place for special occasions, we've even booked private rooms, but after Saturday, we may make the change to DC high end restaurants that still understand service.
Fantastic place. Food was tremendous. Loved the view and the whole feel of the place. However, the service was only so-so. Maybe it was just our waiter, but for a top-end place like this, I would expect exceptional service. It wasn't. There were several times I had to try to get his attention, and we definitely felt ignored and overlooked during the evening. It was busy, but not crazy, and they had tons of staff. It's definitely an expensive place, so for that I expected top-notch service.
We head back to 2941 several times a year, and often bring out of town guests here, because the menu offerings are varied, the food reliably excellent, the ambiance pleasant, and the service top-notch. On this visit we all left pleased with our selections, which included an octopus tempura, mushroom terrine, a mushroom risotto, and cider-glazed duck breast with brussels sprouts and turnips. Dessert choices are still one of the main things that set this establishment off from many competitors - they are often unique, interesting, and light. Overall, a very nice experience.
Awkward entrance into an office park and google maps resulted in our entering through the parking garage... lost along with another date night couple.
This is rated as a romantic place, and although we were seated by the fireplace, the high ceilings and large rooms made it noisy and impersonal. We were initially disappointed--
However the wait staff and the food and wine were excellent. And as we left, we explored the " right" entrance which was beautifully
I would recommend this place if you enter through tge valet entrance, go during tge day so you can see outside, and avoid busy evenings so the noise level is low.
This is a ground floor restaurant in a business campus. The restaurant has great landscaping and once inside you feel like you are in the country looking out huge plate glass windows. Service for such a high end restaurant is friendly and helpful without getting too familiar.
The food is tasty, with variations on the usual that make the dish interesting without going to 'challenging'. A slight oddity is the mix of plating styles -- meant to match the dish without worrying about the overall aesthetic. Example: calamari served in a mini deep fryer basket on a wooden cutting board. Every other dish on china. For the area (ie, not going into DC proper) this is my new favorite for upscale 'impressing' dining.
Our waiter Julio made our dining experience so perfect. He was attentive, personable, charming; the perfect waiter. We love the food at 2941, and we found the art by Jose Alvarez very beautiful. The personal touch of having our names printed on the menus was very nice as well as the personalized desert to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The food here is always good; this time it was superb. The chef's Fall menu is creative, both in terms of flavor and presentation. My dining companion and I appreciated the fact that several courses were offered in a variety of size options, which allowed for more menu explorations even though we weren't interested in the formal "tasting" menu because it contained game, which we don't eat. The only drawback to the evening was a server who was either inexperienced or overwhelmed or, possibly, a combination of both.
The food is always good at 2941, which is why we keep going back. Both the duck breast that I had and the branzino that my wife had were cooked to our liking and very tasty. They really need to do something to control the noise. Although the bar is partly separate from the dinning area, the noise (which can be quite loud) often spills over. Moreover, with the very high ceilings and glass walls, the dining area itself can be quite noisy.
I especially liked the option of choosing a 'half plate' dinner. I typically have a difficult time finishing an entire meal so that was a great option. I would not recommend the gnocchi though - was very pasty. Great wait staff and hostesses. I would try it again.
