I have been to the restaurant many times. This visit was definitely not a good experience. The restaurant was out of items on the menu and standard pours at the bar. I ordered the same item that I usually order which is listed under the small bites or appetizers (I forget the exact category name) intending and expecting to get the smaller portion that I usually am served. This time though it was an 'entree' size which was too much. We brought out of town friends with us because of our previous experience and were a bit embarrassed by the experience.
If I hadn't dined with you previously this experience would have resulted in my not returning. Hopefully this was an anomaly.
We were disappointed in the food. Pizza crust was undercooked and the chicken was not crispy but had flabby skin on it. Service was good. But for the price, the food was not up to par.
We went out for a date night to this restaurant. It’s close by the house and in the past had been really good. It was such a disappointment. The food was over done or flavorless. They were also out of many things on the menu and it was only 7:00. Disappointing.
Food was great, server was great. Will for sure be back
I thought the service and the food were excellent. I was quite disappointed with the ambiance/decor/and somewhat with the cleanliness. The decor was very lackluster, I could understand if it was to be minimalist or industrial - but there were a few paintings on the wall, but they didn't really seem to go together (some of the town of Sudbury and others that just seemed mismatched with the others)- just odd that it was something I even noticed - that's not something I would normally even be aware of. But when you are paying $30 a plate, you should feel that you are in a nice place. And the floor (a buffed cement floor), was filthy around us and other tables with lots of food or chips or fries from previous diners.
We were there with another couple. Two of us ordered flatbreads and two ordered hamburgers. The flatbreads were done a long time before the hamburgers and stayed under the heat lamps. Came to us cold. The burgers were overdone.
29 Sudbury Never Disappoints.
The food was rock solid again and keeps us coming back regularly.
It is a little pricey but the food is delicious!!
Will be back soon.
Nice ambiance, intriguing food offerings, nice food presentation, but doesn't deliver on taste and quailty of final product
Went for Valentines Day with wife. Rervation at 8 showed up at 745 said we will be seated in a minute. At 830 inquired and they said could not find reservation. Ordered short ribs with mashed potatoes. Came back saying ran out of mashed would roasted potatoes be ok I said ok. They couldnt mash roasted potatoes?? Meal was cold. My wife enjoyed her short rib pizza. Expresso martinis were very good. Prices were high thought it would have been quality of Bulfinch's, also in Sudbury but was not even close. I guess that is why Bulfinch was booked and 29 Sudbury had plenty of openings. Lesson learned should have called Bulfinch sooner.
We go to 29 Sudbury frequently since we live walking distance and although the service is rarely stellar, the food is very good. Had the lobster ravioli, a special that night, and it was incredible. Probably the best lobster ravioli i have ever had.
Valentine's Day dinner. Service was friendly and efficient from beginning to end. Split the gorgonzola salad. I had beef wellington (special of the day) which is one of my favorite meals. My wife had shrimp and risotto. For dessert we had cheesecake with strawberries and chocolate on top. All very good. I had a draft Perillo and my wife had a glass of wine from there extensive winner list. We'll come back!
Halabut special was a bit bland. My man's lobster ravioli was very good. Service was good considering it was Valentine's Day.
Service a bit slow
The food was very well prepared and very good. The place is looking shabby.
We usually have a nice easy meal here at 29 Sudbury. Last night our food was good, but there was unnecessary confusion. Their servers should have a pad - either paper or IPad. Memory isn't reliable enough.
Beer we ordered wasn't available, ditto the second. The third took a long time to arrive, although wine came right away. Offered bread was never provided, which would have made sense since we were drinking and waiting. Salad and appetizer were good. When entrees came one was correct, the other completely off - not even a dish we discussed. Fortunately what we had ordered was a quick preparation. Both entries were quite good.
One of the diners at the table next to us complained to staff that "I'm 57 years old and that's the worst service I have ever had..." Our experience wasn't that bad, but left a lot to be desired.
Another server (maybe management) vaguely consoled them, and later us. He offered us another beer to compensate ("No, driving...") but not a dessert or any break. Our server, who other than messing the meal up, seemed like a pleasant bright person. The dining room wasn't busy, but there was an big event upstairs which our server did not seem involved in.
Ultimately, the restaurant could do better, even on a busy night. Keep beer/wine lists updated, write down the orders, minimize your liquor liability by giving diners bread while they wait, make lemonade from lemons by treating the wronged diner graciously well. That's how you maintain customers!
Like so many suburban restaurants with just-like-the-city ambitions, they nail the food but flub the service. The dining room is regularly understaffed and, when staffed, staffed with too many staff who are confused about how to provide service. To be clear, all the wait staff had a great attitude and genuinely want to help, but either can't or won't or don't know how.
The food was delicious. The music was a little too loud upstairs. It took a while for drinks and courses to arrive but everything was delicious. We ordered the burrata appetizer and lamp chops plus a Mediterranean salad. All fabulous. The entrees were salmon, shrimp scampi, pancetta wrapped cod and bolognesa. All scrumptious. We love this neighborhood restaurant.
Delicious dinner of salad and flatbread with excellent service as usual. Our regular great server, Christina was off and the server we met, Meg, couldn’t have been nicer or more efficient.
Overall, love casual dining here with my wife and with friends.
Food was incredible and the ambiance set the tone for a relaxed evening while enjoying a great red wine. This is my new favorite place as we have just moved to the neighborhood.
My wife and I attended the New Year's Day brunch, which was wonderful. The music provided by Jacques Raymond and Russ Costa was most enjoyable....they were a big part of why we went there that morning. Also the food was excellent and the bloody mary's are the best. Will do this again.
This was a lackluster dining experience. Most of the menu is straight-ahead red sauce Italian.
Service was terrible. My husbands steak arrived so rare it was cold in the middle, he sent it back. She did apologize and agreed it was much to rare. She brought it back to the kitchen. My meal was finished by the time his arrived. The waitress never offered is another drink, didn’t send the manager over to talk about the issue with the steak. The final issue came when she brought us the wrong check.
We had eaten there before so we might be willing to give it another chance in the future but for $90 it was an extremely disappointing night.
Entrees were very good. Nice server;
Pizza/flatbread was average and overpriced.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, excellent cocktails!
Very tired place. First floor dining room has ZERO ambiance and poor lighting. Must have moved all of the good staff to Flank.
Had never been and was really pleasantly surprised. Didn’t appear to be much upon walking in but the place filled up quickly and we knew it was going to be good. Our server was impeccable. He came to our table multiple times, answered all our questions and was just great. The food was phenomenal. 2 had the short ribs, 1 salmon and 1 crab pasta. It was truly one if the best meals we had all had. Will def be back!
Sunday brunch was amazing. The portions were surprisingly huge for the price range ($12-$16 for the plates we got). The build your own Bloody Mary was amazing as well. We had the Biscuits and Gravy and the traditional Eggs Benedict. Both meals were mouth-wateringly delightful. We had brunch at 10am and were both full until 5pm. Can't wait to go back.
Mid week spot. Not real busy or noisy do good for conversation. Great salads and appetizers. Entrees are ordinary and predictable.
Cod was over cooked. Pork tenderloin wasn't pork tenderloin but was good. Chicken parm was not pounded before cooking and was a little tough
The second floor decor looks a little unfinished, but we were there for the food - Very good; delicious wine!
Brunch with my mother and Aunt. It took 10 minutes to find a waitress. The kitchen was not busy but it took over 40 minutes to get food to the table. The food was good but the service was a dud all around but for the bartender. Eat at the bar my advice.
Food was good but service and ambiance was lacking considering the price.
Service slow. Some good cold. Not a good experience
This was our first visit and we will definitely return. Food and service both terrific. I had the short ribs entree, which melted in my mouth and was delicious. My husband chose the pasta bolognese, which he enjoyed. Portions were generous, and we took home leftovers for lunch the next day. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. Atmosphere nothing special, but comfortable and relaxed. Highly recommended.
Tried this restaurant for the first time based on Open Table recommendation and was very happy with every aspect of the experience. Enjoyed the decor, the seating, service and food. The menu was diverse and exciting, so many things I would like to try that I will have to come back, many times! Highly recommended.
Short Ribs = BEST meal of our lives. Thank you Meg, 1st Class service too.
I had not visited this restaurant in quite a while because it was not very impressive in the past . This place has done a complete 180° turn around the service the salads and entrées were fabulous I don't know what to say I'm still stunned it was so good it is now on my regular restaurant route awesome
Food excellent and interesting, service friendly and competent, only gripe is that the physical surround is dreary: dark space, polished concrete floors, putty brown walls, virtually no artwork or decoration. They desperately need a good interior designer. That being said, it won't prevent me from going back--the food was so good. First course, a salad with prosciutto, shaved fennel, marcona almond, sun-dried blueberry and port wine white balsamic dressing. . . .a divine combination of flavors and textures. Entrée was prosciutto-wrapped cod served over Yukon potato hash with tiger shrimp, braised kale, roasted pepper butter and roasted cippolini onion. . . .crusty surround to the fish, very fresh, ample portion. . . .dessert, the lemon tart w/ homemade raspberry sorbet--good, and my sister's chocolate banana tart was scrumptious.
The variety was limited to our palate. They only had one type of roll for the Hamburg onion was the only choice and I do not eat onions. They put it on a bread but that certainly did it no justice. The ambiance was good but we wanted food also.
