We absolutely loved this restaurant ! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Our waitress Sissy was a delight. We started with the mussels and fried green tomatoes. By far the mussels were the best I’ve ever eaten. I never had the fried green tomatoes. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed them. We went on to have the short ribs and fried chicken. Both amazing !! It’s a must see and taste !!
Not the best in town, but ok for what it is. The wait staff was friendly, if a little slow. There was no effort to produce artful dishes, but comfort food is a good way to describe it. Low budget wine list, but that may be customer driven. Even the best wine list in town is marginal. I had the shrimp and grits, which was better than what I've had at other restaurants in town.
Pet friendly; a must for us.
Always the best!
Great restaurant for wonderful food, friendly and professional staff, cozy and casual atmosphere and consistently good.
The best fried chicken ever!!! Delicious mussels and nice outside porch.
The menu is just eclectic enough to be enticing but still has plenty of “standard fare” for less adventurous eaters. Much of the greens and some veggies come from the chef’s own garden so are always fresh. If weather permits, get a table outdoors not only for more leg room but to enjoy views of the historic district.
An amazing experience, one that we have had the please of repeating more than once.
Our ‘Dinner’ was awesome - only downside was we were handed the check without being asked if we wanted desert. Kind of strange like our table was needed. We had a reservation too and were not even an hour in.
We brought a friend who was visiting the island and celebrating a birthday. It was too cold to sit on the porch (which we love), so we had to sit inside. We asked to be moved from a table that was practically in the kitchen, and were moved to a table that was only slightly better. No ambiance at all...then a large party came in toward the end of the meal and was seated next to us. We went elsewhere for dessert. Food quality was a bit disappointing too...maybe because it was a Monday?
Enjoyed casual ambiance but service was poor. Did not live up to other posted reviews.
Staff was accommodating when we refused first table offered and we did end up with a nice seat. The problem seemed to be that our waiter was really serving in a different room and didnt get to us in a timely manner either to take our order or to serve is. Kitchen was more than willing to make some substitutions and the food was good and plentiful. Dessert order was a bit messed up and the chocolate soufflé was tiny altho tasty.
Excellent! Already made return reservation.
All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinners having arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and were seated quickly. Server was very knowledgeable about food preparation and also gave us good advice about using the Open Table reservation system. We realized mid-meal that we had enjoyed dinner at 29 South last year but had forgotten the name of the restaurant but we will surely return this year again and won't forget this very good restaurant's name or excellent food again.
Someone we met in another eatery had told us about 29 South. Since we had never eaten there, we decided to go, and boy, are we glad we did!! The food was so delicious........everything was so fresh and mouth watering!! We had the soup of the day, fresh mussels, and my husband had fresh mahi-mahi. I ordered the pecan trout. Both entrees came with fresh vegetables and they were delicious!! We would definitely recommend. Service was excellent.
The smoked short ribs and roasted root veggies were delicious! And the chocolate souffle was yummy and perfect for two to split. Service was great! Nice cozy atmosphere in downtown Fernandina Beach.
interesting menu! Everyone at out table enjoyed their selection!!
Outstanding in Every Way -- I have dined at 29 South on multiple occasions and it never disappoints. The chef is fabulous and uses a lot of local ingredients. Everything is beautifully prepared and presented. Homemade pasta is a winner every time. They also have a very nice wine list and a good variety of wines by the glass. They have a great wrap around porch for outdoor dining. When you want to treat yourself to great food and great service, dine at 29 South.
Loved - loved - great food - great service - was husbands’s birthday - we really enjoyed the evening - will definitely be back
Best meal we've had this year. Shrimp and grits are to die for. We'll be back often.
first visit, and found the restaurant to have excellent tasting and creative food.
we were there during restaurant week and experienced awesome value
29 South is one of our faves! The food is sways spot on and the coffee and Doughnuts are a must.
It was restaurant week and while things can get a little crazy everything was outstanding. Food came out very steadily and quality was great. We did not feel rushed and our waiter was very accommodating and friendly. Will definitely be back
This was our first visit. It's restaurant week, so we got to try different items. Crab cakes and scallops are wonderful! The wine paring was perfect. Went home to GA and bought a case.
Amanda was a superior server, so attentive! Thank you!
Brought dear friends visiting from out of state. They were so impressed! The Diver Scallop special was indeed special! I know all of your servers are wonderful but we really enjoy Todd’s attention! See you again soon!
The staff was amazing! Great experience all around. Loved all the food we had. Great wine list!
A just because we deserve it mini vacation with a special night out. The food was excellent. We actually indulged in desert first so I wouldn’t be too full to have it, which made the experience even more fun. The coffee and donuts bread pudding is fantastic! Our meals were cooked perfectly.
Exceptional meal at 29 South. Drinks, lobster corn, catch of the day with fresh succotash, and coffee and donut dessert were all extraordinary. Service was warm, knowledgeable and friendly.
Food and service was amazing as always! Perfect brunch for my mother's 86th birthday with exceptional brunch options, fresh food and happy service from start to finish.
Wonderful little spot near the water (but not on the water) in Fernandina Bch. While they do not have a full bar they do have a great wine selection and decent bottled/canned beer list. The menu had just changed and they had a wonderful braised pork shank that was a more than generous portion that literally fell of the bone. The shank came with a knife but not sure why!
Anyway, its worth a stop in a town with many restaurants.
