29 South Eats Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant is very good but I do feel a little bit overrated. Perhaps I’m biased as a vegetarian since there really is not good vegetarian or even fish options on the menu. I say that because even the fish and vegetable entrées had pork and other types of meat added to them. My BF who is a meat eater also thought the menu was too limited BUT the excellent service made up for the lack of food choices
29 South is a must dine experience in Fernandina Beach in the beautiful Historic District. Everything is fresh, partnerships with local farmers - you can taste the difference and the care the chefs put into everything. My husband had the Shrimp and Grits - outstanding. I had the fresh cavatelli with crab. It was light not heavy just as our server described. The grilled romaine salad was perfect. And we sprang for their signature dessert which is beyond words. Just get it. You will want to lick the plate.
Made RESERVATION FOR 6 AND REQUESTED THE FRONT PORCH IN THE SHADE...2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE.
GOT TO THE RESTAURANT AND THE FRONT PORCH WAS BASICALLY EMPTY. THEY TOLD ME THE ONLY TABLE THAT WOULD SEAT 6 THEY HAD OUTSIDE (WHICH WAS ON THE SUN SIDE OF THE PORCH) HAD A 40 MINUTE WAITING TIME. SO BECAUSE IT WAS A BUSY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WE TOOK AN INSIDE TABLE. HAD GUESTS FROM NEW YORK AND MY SISTER-IN LAW ENDED UP BEING COLD INSIDE THE RESTAURANT. WILL NEVER GO BACK.
The restraunt was in an old historic house that was loaded with charm. The staff was very friendly and you could tell just enjoyed working there. The food was amazing! This was a top recommendation from Bob with Addison on Amelia and it didn't disappoint one bit!
First try for us as we are new to the area this year. We really enjoyed the dinner and the capable service. We look forward to more meals there. Next time I will request a better table when I make the reservation. Even with a reservation on Open Table, we were by the front door and kitchen in a very snug table.
We enjoyed coming back and enjoying a fine meal before the play. The short ribs were great as was the sweet tea brined pork chop! The desserts are all good, but it was time for the coffee and donuts, which we shared. We also have enjoyed coming for brunch and lunch, and it's a great spot to enjoy.
Asked for a special request that a note would be left on the table for my girlfriend, since it was her birthday I wanted it to say happy Birthday I love you, No note was present. Other than that the food and everything is awesome
We have been to 29 South several times and it has always been very good. The service is terrific, we had Cissy as our waitress and she was terrific. Food is well prepared and the menu, while not extensive is very creative. The daily specials round out the menu offerings. A must try if you are anywhere near Fernandina
This is one of the better farm to table restaurants we've been to. I had the frittata with crab meat and it was tasty. We also tried the pulled pork benedict and it was one of best dishes I've ever tried for brunch. If your looking for a great brunch, definitely give 29 South a try. Only draw back is only beer and wine so no Bloody Mary's!
My husband and I made a reservation for brunch here while visiting the area. I had the pulled pork eggs benedict which had great flavor and everything was fresh and well prepared. It was a good size portion. They have a great menu with something for just about everyone. From the hostess to the wait staff, everyone was super friendly. If it wasn't so hot outside we would've sat on the front porch overlooking the quaint street. The lunch menu looked delicious and I'm sure if we go back there. Definitely recommend.
Not sure why this restaurant gets rave reviews. DIsappointed in the food. Blackened shrimp rubbery ,bland and overcooked in the shrimp and grits, Fried Green Tomatoes a bit flat in flavor , lobster sauce on fish lacked depth. Decor needs updating and service was just ok.
Not to be missed local eatery. Had the corvina over cauliflower risotto. And the succulent short ribs. Also, try the "crust" of the day. Basically a giant crostini topped with something different every day. Our day it was topped with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, arugula, very thinly sliced peaches and then a balsamic olive oil drizzle. All very YUMMY!!!
We were on family vacation staying at the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island -- looking for GREAT food. 29 South was our favorite dinner while on vacation for 4 nights, everything was fantastic & we are very picky. Fresh, excellent presentation, flavorful, delicious, appetizer, wine, entrees, and dessert, even coffee -- all fantastic. The server was really genuine and provided excellent service. The only issue was that the wood ceiling has leaks so we just moved our table slightly to avoid dripping water. Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Amelia Island, love this place!
Another great meal at 29 South. I was very thrilled to find out that they will blocken the SHRIMP on the shrimp and grits. The grits for creamy and yummy and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. My friends ordered burgers with blue cheese which They said were excellent. I like the fact that you can get a side salad instead of hand cut fries if you desire. The wine was great . Beer selection quite nice.
First visit. We had someone with a walker so access was a bit difficult. They were out of one menu item and another item on the menu has been discontinued but still on menu. Food was good and service was attentive. Will go back.
Very nice experience. Although it was august, we ate on the porch. It was really pleasant.
The appetizers we got, fried green tomatoes and toasted bread with relish, fish, shrimp, and arugula were well above average. The main dishes, Atlantic salmon above average, shrimp and grits were good (fried shrimp on top was good but I'm not a big fan of batter and this was like a corn dog).
Lunch menu is very good, dinner- so so, very limited. Small portions of food. If you do not mind full arm tattoos by servers you are in luck. Nice wine menu, no full bar service. Server was excellent, saved the evening. Situated in an old house, not exactly very clean. Very causal dress.
