Definitely didn’t live up to the hype. Read lots of good reviews however we just weren’t blown away nor were we impressed with our server. The guy running our food was so much friendlier and attentive than our actual server. Food was good just nothing memorable.
Interesting and unique menu. Enjoyed the crab cake. The crust of the day was delicious--tomatoes, arugula, mozzarella and pesto drizzle--really enjoyed this. Chestnut Parpadella was good, a bit more sauce would have made it better. Great waiter--Mark
Our experience was disappointing because they were out of the one dish that we were there for.
Wonderful breakfast! super wait staff!
Food was amazing and the service was excellent
Great place to grab great food in a very nice casual setting downtown.
We ate at 29 South Eats for Sunday brunch. I had a sandwich with egg, sausage, and bacon. It was HUGE but just alright as far as taste. I had the potatoes that came with it and also got the cheese grits. They were SO good. We also had mimosas and we all agreed that they were one of the few drinks we’d had all weekend (we were on a girl’s trip) that we felt like actually had alcohol in them. Everywhere else we ate made their drinks super weak. The atmosphere and service were excellent. I think we wouldn’t have been as disappointed in the food had we not heard rave reviews all weekend from other people. It just didn’t live up to our expectations.
We went only for desserts and were aware of the constantly changing dessert menu as new items are continuously brought out for sale. We tried a slice of carrot cake (it was huge) and it was delicious-not overly sweet. We also had a croissant bread pudding with ice cream and that was served warm. It was rich but in a good way. The desserts are priced at $10 each, but are sized for sharing. We were traveling from out of town so probably will not return to try their main dishes but things that were being delivered to tables looked and smelled good.
Had a great evening! Nice service and delicious food!
The food was exceptional and creative. The service was also top shelf. We enjoyed it so much, we made a reservation to go back even before we finished dinner.
As always the food and service is excellent at 29 South. They have their own garden out back so a good amount of their vegetables/salads they serve are as fresh as possible. Many of the other items they serve are local ingredients as well. We have never had a bad meal there and have been many times.
Atmosphere was pleasant. Restaurant is small so it might be noisy if crowded, but we went early and only a few tables filled. Food was excellent--local ingredients creatively prepared. We had soup, shrimp and grits, and a mahi mani special. Dessert was also splendid.
One of the few places open on Sunday nights in Amelia Island. Food was very
good as usual and thanks to Todd for the outstanding service.
Delicious food! Hometown feel
Mahi Mahi with succotash was superb. Fried chicken was yummy. A definite must when visiting the island.
Great night celebrating a birthday.
29 South is in a quaint historical house just up from the waterfront and down from Centre Street in Fernandina and has authentic cuisine to match. The ingredients were fresh and delicious, the service attentive without being obtrusive, and the recommendations flawless. The fried chicken with honey was cooked to perfection. Our gluten-free, dairy-free entree request was a seafood special prepared without any hesitation and simply delicious. The ambience was as comfortable and relaxed as being invited over to a friend's house for dinner. There were many creative choices up and down the menu, including for small plates, dessert, and drinks (wine and beer). The staff were laid back but focused simply on your best experience of the food. Highly recommended.
Probably the best food we have ever eaten! And fabulous service too. An overall great evening. Definitely would recommend it.
Had a great dinner eating fish that we caught today. They cooked it three ways grilled, blackened and fried. All were delicious. Service was excellent. He gave great recommendations
Tremendous southern food and hospitality. They were great with the kids and had amazing food- best of our trip. The fried green tomatoes, pulled pork, short rib and shrimp and grits all had high expectations and delivered well beyond. Casual, friendly atmosphere. Best of Amelia Island.
This place was fantastic! If you are in downtown or even close to there it is a must. My husband and I went two nights in a row. We had multiple starters and a few entrees and everything was fantastic. They even grow some of the produce in the backyard! Service was also fantastic. Food feels creative, healthy, and upscale, and the atmosphere is local, quiet, and great serving sizes.
Food was fabulous and our server Todd was outstanding.
Overpriced for a brunch buffet. Food was decent but tended to be dry and cold. They didn't restock the buffet fast enough and people had to wait for food. Not a good value for money at $25 a head.
Easter Brunch. We had to wait for a "special table" to be seated right between the bathroom doors (literally) and the swinging kitchen doors and the servers' station. It made for a not so nice meal. The food was ok but not worth the brunch price. The eggs were outstanding and fresh. The remaining items were less than what would be expected for a special meal.
Everything was excellent but the polenta in a jar was sublime !
Such great food. Such a great experience always. Always one of our favorites for brunch on the island with awesome options & service!
The food was amazing. When we go out on our monthly date night we discuss our food in great length. (We have been married almost 20 years so not much to talk.) We found the food to be memorable, unique and flavorful. Our appetizer, suggested by the waiter, was pulled pork spring rolls. Different, but surprisingly tasty. The swordfish was outstanding, cooked well and had a wonderful flavor. My husbands steak, which of course I tried, was cooked to perfection, and was the best steak that we have had, possibly, ever. Juicy and flavorful. Even though the seating felt a little tight, for my taste, it still felt intimate. The staff is very friendly and emanate gratitude when interacting with the customers. The price was on par with the food and service. It would be excellent for a special occasion, date, or introducing someone new to the charms of Fernandina. We enjoyed the food so much it is already decided to be next months date night as well.
Divine!!! Managed to sneak in without reservations thanks to wonderful hostess, best meal we had on Amelia Island, Fried Chicken and Beef rib with root vegetables, amazing!!!
Absolutely amazing food, service and seating.
Liked the farm to table concept
Wonderful! Could not have been better experience! Delicious food!!!
Service was impeccable
Awesome food ! Great ambiance!
We had a great experience at 29 South this weekend. The food was delicious and we had great service as well. The desserts were fabulous. It was a delightful meal.
Great food and service at the reliable 29 South! Local, fresh ingredients artfully prepared! Shrimp po’boy, spicy but outstanding, crab cake and mussels also excellent! Save room for dessert!!
The food was fantastic! The server was very knowledgeable and helpful. The whole dining experience was wonderful.
The food is always out of this world and the service can't be beat. This is one of the best places for dinner on Amelia Island.
Hadn't been to 29 South in a while. That was a mistake! The food was inventive, beautifully presented, and well served. I would definitely go back to try more of the food.
Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive. Not sure why wehaven't been there in so long, but will definitely be returning.
Such a gem! The food, the ambiance and particularly the staff make 29 South a special place. Every effort is made to make sure that you have an experience that will leave you wanting more. Kudos to our waiter who despite dealing with an extremely challenging group, remained positive and gracious.
One of our all time favorites. We go a few times a month usually and the staff and food never let us down! Usually need reservations if going in the evenings on weekends but well worth it!
