29 South Eats Ratings and Reviews
A just because we deserve it mini vacation with a special night out. The food was excellent. We actually indulged in desert first so I wouldn’t be too full to have it, which made the experience even more fun. The coffee and donuts bread pudding is fantastic! Our meals were cooked perfectly.
Wonderful little spot near the water (but not on the water) in Fernandina Bch. While they do not have a full bar they do have a great wine selection and decent bottled/canned beer list. The menu had just changed and they had a wonderful braised pork shank that was a more than generous portion that literally fell of the bone. The shank came with a knife but not sure why!
Anyway, its worth a stop in a town with many restaurants.
Honestly, one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The atmosphere is so quaint and welcoming it feels like you’re having dinner at a friends home. BEST, BEST fried green tomatoes EVER! The Spring Chicken was to die for and so was the lobster corn dog! And then there were the dessert, OMG! The only downfall of this restaurant is I’ll have to drive an hour to come back. But I will!
Reserved a table for two for New Years, 29 South did not disappoint. We arrived five minutes early and were immediately greeted, our table ready. The waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and quick. We ordered two appetizers, and two sides, they were delicious, cooked perfectly and served in a timely fashion. The lobster corn dog was my favorite, lots of sweet, delectable meat with a light ketchup and radicchio. My husband loved the pulled pork spring rolls, smoky and moist, encased a light crispy won ton. We also ordered macaroni and cheese, and red peas, they were also so good. My only regret was that I was too full for dessert. Next time!
This place is a real gem. A great menu of Southern-styled delicacies made with fresh farm-to-table ingredients all put together with some love and style. We have dined here before and will do it again in a heartbeat. We started with their daily bread, a different bread made fresh every day. Ours was topped with grilled brussel sprouts. Then a Berkshire bone-in pork chop with a blackberry sauce on top of a sharp mac and cheese. See what I mean? This place knows how to combine flavors like no other restaurant on Amelia Island. And the service was great while we dined in the old remodeled house at 29 South. Go there. You will not be disappointed.
Our initial server was excellent but left for the evening after we placed our order and the lady who took over was not very attentive. The pulled pork spring rolls were very good and my wife's king crab cavatelli was excellent, but I ordered the strip steak which was a special on the menu and it was not very good; inferior cut of meat with a heavy demi glace. I will probably give them another chance but would definitely stay away from the steak.
The restaurant is very good but I do feel a little bit overrated. Perhaps I’m biased as a vegetarian since there really is not good vegetarian or even fish options on the menu. I say that because even the fish and vegetable entrées had pork and other types of meat added to them. My BF who is a meat eater also thought the menu was too limited BUT the excellent service made up for the lack of food choices
29 South is a must dine experience in Fernandina Beach in the beautiful Historic District. Everything is fresh, partnerships with local farmers - you can taste the difference and the care the chefs put into everything. My husband had the Shrimp and Grits - outstanding. I had the fresh cavatelli with crab. It was light not heavy just as our server described. The grilled romaine salad was perfect. And we sprang for their signature dessert which is beyond words. Just get it. You will want to lick the plate.
Made RESERVATION FOR 6 AND REQUESTED THE FRONT PORCH IN THE SHADE...2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE.
GOT TO THE RESTAURANT AND THE FRONT PORCH WAS BASICALLY EMPTY. THEY TOLD ME THE ONLY TABLE THAT WOULD SEAT 6 THEY HAD OUTSIDE (WHICH WAS ON THE SUN SIDE OF THE PORCH) HAD A 40 MINUTE WAITING TIME. SO BECAUSE IT WAS A BUSY SATURDAY AFTERNOON WE TOOK AN INSIDE TABLE. HAD GUESTS FROM NEW YORK AND MY SISTER-IN LAW ENDED UP BEING COLD INSIDE THE RESTAURANT. WILL NEVER GO BACK.
