View Private Dining DetailsVery good food, comfortable, quiet ambience, near the symphony.
This is an easy place with good bar and sit-down tables. Service is good and folks are very friendly. The place has a very nice, relaxed atmosphere. I only ate 2 things - shishito peppers and tuna, both were great. This is a great place for an easy evening with a friend, for a long conversation over drinks, etc. Location is great too if you are rolling around civic center.
Good food. I think the chef is paying attention. Available: we were able to get a table on short notice.
We’ve have hone to solunas often and always were very pleased with our meals, however this time, was a big disappointment. I had the chicken and quinoa.while the quinoa was delicious, the chicken was dry, tough and I could hardly swollow the food. For dessert I had the chocolate pot de creme. It should be noted that this dessert is served cold. Only 50% of my meal was taken off the tab. In my opinion the whole meal should have been taken off. I don’t know if we’ll be back.
Terrific!!!!!!
We had a tasty dinner with excellent service, and a very decadent dessert.
I had been here before and was not disappointed, great food. My birthday friend also loved it and appreciated the fact that I took here for her birthday. I will return and as will our office group for TGIF afternoons.
I like this lunch spot - good for locals and I've been here a couple of times recently for business lunches. Easy to talk, good service, a great Salade Nicoise and iced tea. People often drink wine at lunch here as well, although I haven't seen the wine list. Nothing fancy, but good food and a longtime institution. Full bar, but I've never been served there - yet!
THe food was very mediocre. THe shrimp fritters were soggy and not that tasteful, the Cesar said just had a tiny bit of dressing on the top leaves. They serve it deconstructed, but don't provide an utensil to toss it. The main courses (ahi tuna, beef, and pasta dish were ok, but nothing to write home about. The waiter didn't smile once, and din't bother to remove the appetizer plates until after our main courses were served. It's a great pre- ballet performance location, but not worth it.
We had the friendliest and most helpful waiter! He took our food orders and listened very carefully when my husband described the kind of wine he wanted...and my husband was very happy with the wine he was served. I had the Tuna Nicoise and it was very fresh and delicious! My husband had the brisket and he was pleased that there was no fat on the meat and that the meat was very tender and tasty. For dessert, we shared a fantastic and very rich chocolate mousse. The location makes it the perfect place for dinner before going to a show at the Strand Theater, which is located about 2 blocks away.
The service was as slow as it could be. Food was inventive, but nothing to rave about. Don’t finpre theatre, you’ll
Never make curtain
Soluna was always a mix for me -- like the atmosphere and the food was ok enough. Went for lunch. Only about 6 tables occupied at peak time. Despite this, server couldn't see fit to check for water. Apathetic at best. Think it's time to cross it off my list .
Overpriced and average
I will definately return to Soluna as I enjoy the ambience, nobody is yelling or disputing issues.
the clientele is usually mature and there to enjoy a good meal and then off to the symphony, ballet or opera. It smells good when you enter and most everybody speaks in a modulated voice.
It is comfortable, and the food is well presented and flavorful. I am so glad to have found a place near the symphony that makes you happy to be in the neighborhood.
Delicious dinner prior to SFBallet performance. Perfect start to a lovely evening. I ordered the 8 hour Brisket which was tender and moist served with creamy mashed potatoes and tasty roasted Brussel sprouts. My friend had the ahi dish And throughly enjoyed it too.
I really like Soluna. We had a really great server and delicious food. The ambiance is nice but casual and the booths really comfy. Overall it was an excellent experience.
Soluna used to be a real hot spot in the Civic Center area but it was very quiet on the day I went for lunch. Good lunch menu - we split a Cuban sandwich (very moist) which came with fries and macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was made with a variety of white cheeses and bacon - very creamy.
A friend and I had dinner at the restaurant before the theater. The restaurant wasn't that crowded, but it took a few minutes for the host to greet us. We essentially stood in the doorway for 2-3 minutes without being acknowledged by any staff. He seated us, and then it was another significant period (maybe a little under 10minutes) before we were greeted by a waiter, which turned out to be the host. He looked very disinterested in serving us - didn't first ask us if we wanted a drink or even water. We gave our order first because we had theater tickets, and as he started to leave, I stopped him to put in our drink orders. I do acknowledge the young waiter who brought our food (which I thought was mediocre) - he was VERY friendly, asked what play we were seeing, and let us know that he was going to NY for his bday and scheduled to see the same play. He was so sweet and authentic. As I looked around for the waiter to bring our check, I noticed the host hanging out at the bar with a bunch of other guys just chatting. It was not the most pleasant dining experience.
Great service and food. Ate there before a show at Orpheum Theatre. Highly recommended for a good meal and great service that's not too expensive.
Shrimp Fritters very good... Ahi Tuna A++ one of the best dishes I’ve had here. Cooked perfectly with just enough seasoning not to overpower the tuna.... only disappointment was the fairly tasteless sorbet. Been here about 10-22 times and Soluna Café is consistently good!
We ate here because it is very convenient to the theater district and had availability on the same day. The dishes we had were good including ahi salad and braised brisket. We could've passed on dessert as they had run out of the caramel sauce (seeing as how we were the first customers for dinner, I'm thinking more they didn't prepare it then they ran out) and the ice cream was only fair. However, overall, the dinner dishes were excellent and our server was pleasant and attentive.
Nice ambience. Small corner booths allow intimacy. Food was delicious. A little on the expensive side. I will go back however! Good for pre-ballet, concert or theater dining.
Nice place in a restaurant free zone near Civic Center to have a business lunch. Good salads and quiet.
Food was very good. Enjoyed the music being played. Quiet enough for a business meeting to occur.
If it hadn't been for 'Dead Poets Society' being played on the big screen, I would have rated the ambience higher. I would have appreciated if they had put the Warriors game on instead of a CNN show. The waiter was professional and helpful. The food was quick to our table after we ordered. It was delicious and my coulette steak was cooked to my requested doneness perfectly. The dessert was a dark chocolate mousse that was more like pudding. The texture wasn't pleasing but the taste was okay. This was our third visit here and probably, won't be our last.
Great meal before a show at the Orpheum. They were out of the 2 mains I wanted to choose which should have been disclosed up front. The charcuterie was very good and my friends Mac and Cheese with pancetta, was perfection. I would go back and give them a try again.
Excellent food, I tried my friends dishes and they were all delicious... wish I had also ordered them. Will be going back more often.
Our second time back! would do so a third time. Nice staff, accommodating, too. The food was excellent.
Came here before seeing a show at the Orpheum. Good food, service was lacking a bit but didn't bother me a whole lot. Nice ambiance and there was a good crowd when we went.
The service was undeniably slow but our server was the only staff member working the entire restaurant. Considering his circumstances he was incredibly pleasant, communicative and was hustling his booty off. We appreciated the experience and were empathetic to the situation. The burger with Brie was amazing and we left full and satisfied. Would definitely come back!
My friend had the burger - as always. It's the best burger in town and the fries are good too.
I opted for the dungeness crab croquettes and I can't wait to go back for more while they are in season.
Meanwhile I eyed the chicken being devoured at an adjacent table.
Decisions! Decisions??
Bummer this time. The fried chicken was soggy and cold. Enough said.
Wonderful food prepared to perfection! Very lucky to have discovered it.
Hit and miss. Hits: Octopus, clams, decor, artwork. Misses: Caesar salad poor presentation, gummy onions and skimpy on anhcovies;brussels sprouts sweet and boring; stressed waiter; iffy but convenient neighborhood;Musty smell.
I hate to write a bad review because the food was excellent as it was two months ago when we returned after a long hiatus from the restaurant. But the service was awful. We don't blame the waiter, who was on his second day of employment. He tried hard and he was very pleasant. It was the kitchen and the bar. We knew that something must be amiss when it took 20 minutes to fill our cocktail order at a point when the restaurant was still relatively empty. I ordered a salade Nicoisse. It was served a decent time after I ordered, but my wife's risotto, ordered at the same time as mine, did not come with it. We waited and waited for the risotto. I could have eaten three servings of the Nicoisse in that time frame. It finally arrived after a 40 minute wait. We had theatre tickets and so we left as soon as my wife finished the risotto. We skipped dessert and paid in cash because we feared we would have another long wait for the restaurant to process our credit card. In all, we arrived at 6 pm and departed at 7:45, having had just one course and a cocktail.
A short walk from Civic Center or the Orpheum, this is a nice place for a lunch or dinner when you're looking for good food, friendly service and a peaceful atmosphere. Dinner menu is divided into : small dishes, medium and large. The wait staff was more than willing to share how the kitchen could adapt some of the menu items to fill the needs of one of our group, the vegetarian.
We shared a salad (big enough for a starter for 2 or 3) and each ordered an entree. We finished with a shared dessert, and all enjoyed our dinners. There is a good wine list and beer choices as well.
Great post matinee meal. Good tasting grass fed beef burger, nice pleasant service. Well priced, easy in and out.
Our go-to restaurant before ACT performances. Food was delicious and service outstanding. Quiet enough for easy conversation. Always look forward to our pre-theater lunches!
Loved my charred caesar salad. Great place for lunch before our show at the Strand. Parking in the SOMA Grand lot on Mission was easy, convenient, and affordable.
We love to go here before we head over to The Strand Theater, a few blocks away. The service we received at Soluna was excellent, friendly, helpful and professional. Our waitress was wonderful. I ordered the seared tuna salad and it was delicious. The fish was fresh; the other ingredients were tasty and also very fresh. My husband had the hamburger with fries and he said that everything was very good. The bread was served hot and crusty...just the way we like it! For dessert, we shared the pear crumble...and it was yummy!!!!
