24Grille Ratings and Reviews
I sat down at a high top facing the bar and was waited on almost immediately. I ordered the sea bass with rice. Another server brought out my food but I was never visited by my original waiter and asked how my meal was. I was watching him, trying to get his attention to ask for salt and pepper, but he was too busy socializeing with the other waiter and kitchen staff. I felt neglected and never got the salt. The sea bass was cooked well but the rice was too wet and their was too much balsamic poured over the entire plate. I wanted to send the rice back but again, couldn’t get the attention of my waiter. When I finally finished my meal (didn’t eat the runny rice), he finally came over to clear my plate. He never asked how I liked it. Clearly the staff needs some training.
The restaurant is attached to a hotel, so the atmosphere was a little different due to that reason. The wait staff could have been more attentive. The parking was terrible. There is valet out in front, but it is not for the restaurant. We had to park in a structure next door on the 8th floor.
Omelette was delicious. Service was horrendous. We sat for more than 30 minutes with only water. Finally the waiter came over and asked if everything was okay. I said that it was not. We would like some coffee. It took another 10 minutes to get the coffee. I had to call a manager to get a second cup. It was a Sunday brunch and a 20% service fee was automatically added to the bill. So the waiter had no incentive to do anything and he didn’t. I spent in excess of $100 for a breakfast that was not very pleasant. I would not go here again.
The food was good. The server was working hard & keeping up, but I think the kitchen was very backed up even though only half the tables were filled. We were staying in the Westin & went down to catch a quick bite before a concert & were told by the hostess that the wait was over an hour (again, not half the tables were filled up at this point). we left to find somewhere else & noticed on OpenTable that 24Grille had reservations open....so we booked one, turned around & went back to the restaurant & was seated immediately (what?). It took a long time to get the food....hence why I think the kitchen was severely behind.
We dined Sunday late afternoon; think dined is an overstatement. The restaurant was not prepared for significant patrons, despite - U-2 Concrete at Ford Field (7:30 pm start time) and a noon Tiger game (they lost to Cleveland 11-1) , combine with the Detroit Jazz festive. While the cooks kicked it up, the front of the house failed on all accords; late welcome, no water, no explanation that they were short handed and patience would be required. Needless to say, we just sat at the Bar as there was no hope that our reservation was going to be filled within 45 minutes of its scheduled start at 5:30pm.
Food service was slooow, burger excellent and my kale salad very good, however, the lamp lolipops were ice cold (watched them sit ready to serve for 10 minutes, sending back was out of the question).
If this is a sign of 24Grille's management abilities - I'd suggest dining elsewhere.
24 Grille is probably a good restaurant but they were ill prepared for the holiday weekend that the concert that was taking place in Detroit that evening. They were understaffed and Open Table filled their reservation queue. We were scheduled for a 5:15pm table and after being told 10-15 minutes twice, we were finally seated at 6:15pm. Once seated it was 15 minutes to order, 30 minutes to get drinks and 45 minutes for our food. We were late for the concert.
I was disappointed in both Open Table and the restaurant and my ratings are solely based on this issue.
We generally go once a year for a Sunday Brunch. The food is great, as is their selection. We enjoy it, but are now realizing that our appetites no longer fit with brunches, making the cost/benefit ratio, esp at the higher-priced 24 Grille, no longer worthwhile.
Good food and decent service, but not much stands out.
For starters, the 24Grille was pretty dead on a Saturday evening with the Tigers in town, so that sort of speaks for itself. But we were seated immediately, which was good. The decor felt dated and dark even though this isn't an old property. The wait staff was reasonably quick and attentive. We ordered the Philly Cheese Steak flatbread, Herb Roasted chicken, and Spinach salad. We added shrimp to the salad, which surprisingly doubled the price from $12 to $24. All the food was well prepared and tasted good. Beer selection was so-so. Cocktail was not the best, kind of lollipop sweet. Total tab was $100, seems high for an appetizer, a few drinks, a salad and a chicken entree.
The service was extremely slow and the food was not good at all. In fact, we had to send one of our plates back for a re-do. Their credit card machines were down, which they knew of before they took orders, but did not inform the guest until the time came to pay our bills. Once we were done, they said, "our machines are down so you can either pay cash or let us write down your credit card information, so we can run it later". Who does that? We should have been given the option to dine elsewhere. We soon noticed that as new guest came in, they were not telling any of us until after we ate. I thought it was pretty shady. It was my first and last time dining there. This occurred at lunch on June 26, 2017. I gave it a 1 star only because there were no options for negative stars.
We stopped by to have lunch after seeing it had some great reviews online, sure enough, the reviews were right. The service was excellent, drinks and appetizers were brought out quickly and the main courses were promptly delivered. Presentation for the food was beyond expectations. Everything arrived to the table looking amazing and the taste was there to match. We all got different plates from the menu and not one of us got a dish we disliked.
Overall the prices were a bit high for certain items on the menu but well worth it in the end. I'll definitely be stopping back by next time I visit Detroit.
The food was really quite good, but our experience was tainted by the poor service.
Our table was not ready when we arrived, and there was poor communication back to our group (8 people) from the two hosts which greeted us separately after we were left waiting at the front door.
Our waiter seemed inexperienced, with repeated requests for orders coming as soon as we sat down (prior to seeing menus). He also spoke so softly we could barely hear him. Throughout the meal, requests for drink refills took absurdly long (15+ min). We also spent the last 20+ min trying to get the waiter's attention so we could get/pay our bill. We ultimately had to get up, chase him down, and hand him out credit cards. The delays were so long we almost missed our show. As a side note, the restaurant was not overly packed at the time.
The food and ambiance were both excellent, so my assumption is that this experience may have been the exception rather than the norm.
The food was outstanding. Both me and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My filet was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth with fantastic flavors. My daughter felt the same about her shrimp and chicken pasta. Our waitress was very nice and prompt. We would definitely recommend this place again.
It took a long time to order. Food finally arrived, both app and entree, simultaneously! Server said she'd redo and took entree back. After apps, our original entrees were returned cold! Cold fried lobster and mashed potatoes, not puree!!!!!! So disappointed! The dessert order was wrong. They did comp 1 entree. #badbdaydinner!!!
We reserved a table but started at the bar and never left. Jerry, our bartender was superb. The atmosphere was perfect for a cold, winter evening on a busy downtown night. We ordered appetizers and they were great. Tasty and hot when they arrived. The couple next to us ordered dinner and she was disappointed in the salmon tacos but her soup was great. Jerry took that off her bill & offered her other choices. When our food arrived, it was just okay. Steak and crab cakes. We think they just had an off night in the kitchen. We ordered the Pomme Frits and when they arrived, they were just regular french fries that were not good. Jerry gladly replaced them with homemade kettle chips that were much better but still lacked spice or seasoning. In the end, we would try this place again.
Expectations were definitely not met. We reserved a table ahead of time with a note for a gluten free menu and a request to be by a window. Also, we were told by phone that we can have the normal menu as long as we ordered prior to 9pm. Upon arrival at 7pm, we were sat by the bathrooms, offered no gluten free menu, and told we had to order off the NYE menu because the normal menu was now not available. We begrudgingly obliged and ordered what we could. The food was decent. Received the bill, and they overcharged for 5 drinks we didn't have. They ran our card prior to signing the bill so they had to refund the erroneous charge.
All in all, not impressed. We won't be coming back. For the price, I'd recommend anywhere else downtown.
We LOVE 24 Grille. We went last week and our meal was phenomenal. We could not say one bad thing. We had the kale and artichoke dip, the bacon cheeseburgers, a side of mac and cheese and pom fries. The service was fast. Our server (I believe her name was Mariah) was awesome and it was only her second week. We will for sure be back to 24 Grille, hopefully soon.
