247 Craven Ratings and Reviews
We had occasion to be in New Bern on the tail end of a week's vacation in Savannah. Found 247 Craven on Open Table on the drive up and made a reservation. So glad we did! The food was excellent as was the wine and service. We were tired from a long drive and noticed they offer a Chef's Tasting. Perfect! No further decisions to make! This ended up being the best dinner of our entire vacation!!
Once again, 247 Craven was a hit. Outstanding personalized service, an eclectic wine list, and inventive cuisine combine to make this one of the best restaurants in New Bern. We'll always go back to 247. The only (slight ) drawback is the high noise level if it's full, which is most of the time.
I chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration with my date. It is a small restaurant with an upscale food menu. I did like the atmosphere. The waitress was exceptional! My date ordered what he thought was ham which was actually a pizza. Very little shaved pieces of something on the bread and sauce but he said was good. I ordered the pork chop with vegetables. Very little vegetables but WOW what a pork chop! It was huge but it was delicious! I had a glass of wine and we split a piece of carrot cake for dessert which was awesome. It was different than what we are used to but overall a very pleasant experience.
For New Bern, NC, the dinner menu is a bit "out there"...ingredients and dishes that required explanation by the wait person. The food itself was very good and portions were ample. But, the noise level at dinner was almost overpowering...we almost left simply because we could hear the person across the table.
We've been there for Sunday brunch before and it was fantastic...great, recognizable dishes and a much less noisy.
Overall, we won't go back for dinner, but we do plan to try lunch the next time we're in New Bern.
We had eaten there last year and it was fine. This time we were disappointed with the menu. Too few entrees. Four plus one special. My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and wanted to enjoy our meal. There was nothing on the menu we wanted so we had a drink and left.
All three of us ladies enjoyed the food and the experience . We have been friends for about 55 years and and a couple of years ago started to go to lunch at a different place every month. This was our first time at 247 Craven, but I am sure it won't be our last.
Great food and service. Food is excellent and not your run of the mill menu. This is the place to expand your palette. The octopus appetizer was fantastic. I also ordered the pimento dip with pork rinds as a back up - our table devoured everything. My short ribs were delicious and mom's salmon excellent. Drinks and dessert also excellent - recommend the carrot cake with salted caramel drizzle. We all enjoyed a wonderful food and dining experience. Look forward to my next dining experience at 247 Craven.
I like this restaurant. Food good - price fair. Felt a bit rushed. Wait staff at this restaurant take any finished plate from table even though others are not finished. I did ask them once not to do it but this time I let it go. Noise level very high making cross table conversation somewhat difficult.
Having said all that I will return as food and preparation are about the best in my home town.
We love 247 Craven, but with the menu changing all the time, we must be selective in what we order. The scallop appetizer is delicious, but we miss the oyster appetizer. The new salmon entrée was not as good (to us) as the previous one (the salmon was good, but the sides served with it were lacking) and the bacon, egg, and potato pizza was not our cup of tea. We will return and order more selectively. It's fun to try new things, but when you do, you learn that not everything is going to be a "wow" for you. The service was amazing, as usual, and we enjoyed our wine.
Food excellent, although a limited menu in my opinion...Have not been here in over a year due to the noise level. Last year they had an entire side of the restaurant filled with one group probably 20+ people. We sat on the opposite side and the noise was deafening!. So I tried it again a year later. To my surprise, the same thing happened this Sat night, a year later- another party of 20+-another meal where we could not hear ourselves or have a conversation until the big group left (at our dessert time). This place needs to do something to soundproof the room!!! I won't return unless it's during the week and will call to see what size groups are booked before I book
We went for a small family get together of 7 people (2 children). They did a great job. The dinner menu was not particularly kid friendly. However, they did accommodate the kids with outstanding burgers and fries. The menu was not extensive but everything was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their dinner immensely. Our waiter did a great job. The best compliment I can give 247 Craven is that I would not hesitate to return.
We went on a weekday and it was nicee and quiet, the food was excellent and creatively presented. I had octopus and loved it. My husband had scallops and enjoyed too. We are making it one of our favorite restaurants in New Been. The waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgable which added to the enjoyment of the meal.
This small, unassuming venue gets loud fast. There aren't many tables - maybe a dozen - but I found myself shouting across the table at my spouse, and having to ask him to repeat what he was saying. The food was tasty. I had chicken and waffles after my first two choices were unavailable (oyster pot boy and a pasta dish). The waiter brought me a cup of gazpacho after I'd changed from the soup and sandwich and said he hoped this would make up for the unavailable items. But then on the bill, I found a $12 charge for the soup, which he promptly removed. Watch your tab...bring your earplugs and someone attractive to look at, cuz you won't find much to set your gaze on in here.
Loved the selection and daily special offerings although the gnudi wasn't as tasty as I had hoped. We thought the restaurant would note that we were there to celebrate our anniversary as I had written that in the special notes section of the Open Table reservation. But, nothing was done.
Lucky BREAK. We ended up here trying to find somewhere to have Sunday brunch and are we glad we did. We had 7 people and everything was perfect - food all arrived together, hot and delicious. We tried a range of dishes from the daily special Surf & Turf Benedict, fabulous, to PBT (Pimento cheese, bacon and Tomato grilled) to the Ricotta Gnudi and just a standard southern gentleman. Perfect. The Pepper bacon, cured to the house specs, is worth the trip by itself. Lots of nice little touches like the crumbled nut brittle in the salad. Do not miss the Bloody Mary's or the Mimosas. Our waitress Gabby made a great meal into something really special. We will be back.
Excellent dinner! We had a reservation on a Sat evening. Upon arrival we were quickly greeted and seated. This is a small restaurant so a reservation for prime time dining is essential. Wine selections were good and well-priced. We enjoyed the scallops with panzanella. The scallops were sweet and perfectly cooked. The grilled veggies, bread and bacon were a great accompaniment. Service was very good.
Our group of four had made reservations and we were greeted warmly when we arrived . Our table was ready when we arrived and promptly our server was ready to start the evening with cocktail orders. Excellent attention throughout the evening and a very enjoyable selection of small plate appetizers as well as large plate entrees were appreciated by our group. We will be back!!!
Love coming here. Food always wonderful and different..in a great way. We went Sunday an hour before closing time, it was a perfect way to spend our afternoon. Only three other couples, you could hear your own conversation and noise was not an issue. Most times during the dinner hours, it's impossible to hear the person across the table form you. We will make an effort to go during less popular times
We visited New Bern for a special anniversary. We consider ourselves serious foodies and seek out special dining experiences. Craven 247 did not disappoint. Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. If we return to New Bern, we would definitely go back.
