The host and waiters were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The restaurant has a modest wine selection but includes some more unusual options. We enjoyed all the food we chose- onion soup, hazelnut encrusted halibut and brussel sprouts. The warm bread and olive spread was also a good touch.
They should get a new lady at the front desk! Such a grumpy unfriendly lady!!
Always consistent great food, drinks and service. European ambiance with tables close together but good way to make new friends. Maui onion soup my favorite along with seafood salad. Highly recommend.
The halibut was excellent! Patrick was our server and added to the enjoyment of the evening.
Generally just ok. They were more focused on hosting the large party in the back and they told us that actually. They ran out of bread. We ordered a entree and they ran out of that also.
Nothing will happen from this post but I thought it was just ok. Nothing special at all.
The servers were very attentive. A little loud for us - hard to have a conversation across the table. Food was good but not great. Terrific flavors but, for example, we ordered the sea bass special and the fish was over cooked and a little tough. Presentation and accompaniments were excellent but it missed the mark when it could have been perfect. Too bad! Tuna tartare starter was quite good.
Wonderful dinner, drinks, stFf
Food was good. Lobster in cioppino was tough. Otherwise good. Halibut special was excellent as was kin no calamari. Sorry that was auto spell!!!
Great food and service! Would definitely go back when in Laguna Beach
The seafood salad, bread, and lamb shank were delicious. However their seafood soup had no flavor. And the servers forgot to refill our water glasses when we asked.
Lovely restaurant, a busy happening place. Menu needs vegan options!
Two Thirty Forest is a restaurant that never disappoints and I have been dining there since 2004. Everything on the menu is excellent. In season at prime time it can get a little loud but normally it’s perfect.
230 Forest is a consistent fine dining experience. From cocktails to appetizers to bread, butter, entrees and dessert - 230 Forest gets the job done.
No complaints. But to be clear, in my world NO ONE gets five stars. That's reserved for an experience bordering on miraculous.
Unfortunately, after many wonderful dinners at 230, we had a very disappointing experience. My husband
had chosen 230 to celebrate his birthday. We started with a shared appetizer of shrimp wrapped in prosciutto. It was extremely over cooked. We didn’t finish the last shrimp and when I told the waitress why, she was pretty unresponsive. My entree of scallops with risotto was equally disappointing. The scallops (all three of them) were tasty, but, very small. I’ve had this dish before with much larger scallops. The risotto was fair at best. The plate was not a good value for the money.
My husband rated his meal overall as “mediocre”.
I’m not sure what happened here, but it was not the kind of experience we had come to expect at this restaurant.
I can’t say I’d be eager to return.
We will celebrating my friend's birthday, she ordered the kale salad and we
had the fish taco's. The food was excellent and our waiter was very attentive.
We brought friends from out of state. They loved the entree tuna Niçoise salad - said it was better than 4 different places where they have it. The Brussels sprouts appetizer is always great as is the pork chop.
Always good. Italian flare. The tables are a little close. So its a little tight for space. But food was good. We actually split a main pasta course. Their bread is fresh and warm. Their signature martini's are excellent. Will definitely go back!!
The salmon salad is excellent and highly recommended. 230 Forest has a varied menu and is one of those rare consistent restaurants you can count on for a good meal.
All good - we were early evening and enjoyed a bit more “room” than sometimes is the case when they are at peak. Food was excellent, service also.
Celebrating my boyfriends birthday. We had an amazing time and they treated us wonderfully.
Good good good ...............,nnnnnnnnnnijjjjujjj
Come here every time we travel to Laguna. Sat at the bar to eat and must say that Dan behind the bar was great. I tried the lamb shank and it was fabulous.
Disappointing dinner, lamb shanks were over cooked and wine list did not have vintages listed, not the fine place it was several years ago...
A very unpleasant and unsatisfactory experience. Even though we had reservations and arrive promptly, the hostesses were both unfriendly and unwelcoming. They seated us at a table directly adjacent to the open entrance. It was a very windy, cold night and when I asked to be moved to an inside table, I was told that this was my table and there were no other tables available. It was very busy and we would have been happy to wait at the bar. But this option was not offered to us. It was basically "take it or leave it" with no apology and absolutely no effort to accommodate us. We walked out before ordering. We will never return to this restaurant.
Delightful lunch w me hubby! Ask to sit outside to enjoy people watching. Recommendations: lamb appetizer was perfectly seasoned, tender and delicious. The French onion soup is a must have - a meal in itself! Save room for the bread pudding chocolate chip croissant- go for it —- you will not be disappointed!
Mediocre dinner -
Pork chop large but hard to cut and not that flavorful or juicy
Lamp chop appetizer didn't even taste like lamb
Maui onion Soup had an unusual taste
Disappointing for $100+ - Definitely not worth it
Everything was wonderful- service, food, setting. Thank you!
Always great food and considerate excellent service!
Great meal... fresh ingredients and moderate sized portions (I had two young NFL football players with me who both were satisfied). The appetizers were creative (kung pao calamari a highlight there), the fish dishes we had were perfectly prepared and flavorful, and the pork chop was absolutely huge. The martinis weren't bad either.
great food and nice cozy restaurant. Great for friends get together. A little too loud for a romantic meal
We had a wonderful dining experience!
Great place for couples
Excellent food and service always. Our favorite restaurant in the Newport Beach area when we are visiting.
Great dinner.......and bread pudding. ;) Trendy spot, very fun atmosphere!
The restaurant was busy but I always felt our server was giving us special attention. She was never a pest or imposing and she always seemed to be there when we needed anything. We loved our entire experience including our drinks! We will be back!
Dine early! This restaurant seems to get packed after 6:00 pm so be sure and have a reservation. tables near the back are LOUD due to open kitchen as well as the volume of the (unnecessary) music and all tables are spaced VERY close together. If weather is nice, opt for a table near the front (sidewalk). Bread was served with a kalamata olive butter (I think) which was warm and tasty. The maui onion soup was delicious as were the oysters. Two of us had the shrimp scampi pasta, which was just okay. Kind of bland. However the candied salmon salad was excellent as was the veal. Bus staff was very helpful but I felt our waiter was smarmy.
Great restaurant in Laguna that I recommend to anyone looking to have a good date night
