About 230 Forest Avenue
Don't be fooled by the crowds and the noise; they are all part of the scene here at Laguna Beach's sexy and intense 230 Forest Avenue. The lean deep room seduces you to the open kitchen, bustling bar, and concrete floors, creating a space that is part modern bistro, part martini bar, and part art gallery. It's the perfect spot to see and be seen, laid back Laguna-style. Executive Chef Marc Cohen is consistently recognized as one of The OC's top chefs. You'll be ready to award him a medal, too, after tasting his flashy-to-the-eye, tickle-the-taste- buds fusion appetizers and entrees. His dishes are often so stunning that they compete with the artwork on the walls, making for a thoroughly satisfying "artistic" experience.

230 Forest Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Great meal... fresh ingredients and moderate sized portions (I had two young NFL football players with me who both were satisfied). The appetizers were creative (kung pao calamari a highlight there), the fish dishes we had were perfectly prepared and flavorful, and the pork chop was absolutely huge. The martinis weren't bad either.
Dine early! This restaurant seems to get packed after 6:00 pm so be sure and have a reservation. tables near the back are LOUD due to open kitchen as well as the volume of the (unnecessary) music and all tables are spaced VERY close together. If weather is nice, opt for a table near the front (sidewalk). Bread was served with a kalamata olive butter (I think) which was warm and tasty. The maui onion soup was delicious as were the oysters. Two of us had the shrimp scampi pasta, which was just okay. Kind of bland. However the candied salmon salad was excellent as was the veal. Bus staff was very helpful but I felt our waiter was smarmy.
Food was disappointing. Mussels were chewy and with shell pieces. Too salty broth. Gnocchi were mushy with too thick cream and dry chicken pieces. Left most of meals. Waitress did bring a complimentary dessert which we ate but would not have ordered. No offer to comp the food.
Pretty limited menu options and overpriced. I was encouraged by our server to order the halibut but surprised it was breaded and very very bland. I felt a waste of $34. The rest of the table were satisfied with their choice although none of us would recommend or rush back. There seem to be better options such as Oak, better value for money and much better food!
My husband and I were visiting Laguna Beach for the first time and the positive reviews about this restaurant prompted me to make a reservation. I requested a less noisy area since the reviews also noted that it was noisy and my husband is hearing impaired. My request was accommodated and we enjoyed a delicious meal and great wine. The food was very well prepared and the servers were attentive and well trained. I would definitely recommend 230 Forest Avenue if asked where to eat in Laguna.
Visited 230 Forest before going to the theater. We were welcomed warmly and offered the choice of a number of tables. It was quiet when we arrived as we were eating early due to the show, but within 30 minutes the restaurant was very busy. We had cocktails and beer. They don't have any beer on tap, but their bottle selection is very nice. We have their shrimp appetizer special and sea bass special. Both were well presented and delicious. We also had the onion soup which was amazing. The service was wonderful. I highly recommend this restaurant as a fun atmosphere with great food.
The food was quite good--the brussel sprouts and my wife's salmon were exceptional. I ordered the halibut on the strength of the online reviews; unfortunately, I found it a little bland and a little dry. Nothing that I would order again. The dessert--a bread pudding--was quite good.
Drinks were solid--I had a good old fashioned and my wife enjoyed her house red wine.
Service was professional and courteous, but pretty slow. I waited a LONG time for water. And then a long time again to order. One of those spots where you often tried to catch a waiters attention because you aren't sure when you'll see them again.
230 Forest is our favorite Laguna Beach restaurant. As always, the fish was fresh, well prepared and tasty. We had forgotten how much we enjoyed the kale salad. The service was attentive to our needs but not overbearing. They included their excellent bread pudding as a dessert gift as we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary - a nice touch.
