The lamb and bison tasted doctored and tenderized. The accompaniments did not seem to pair well with the meats. Service was excellent though.
This is the BEST meal I have had- not just in Telluride...but anywhere. Every bite from each dish was so satisfyingly flavorful. The selections were creative- from the cocktails, to the apps, to the entrees, through the last bite of our decadent desserts. Even the glass of wine brought over for my boyfriend to have with his steak was paired perfectly.
I’ve never taken the time to write a review for a restaurant, but I knew that feedback in this case was necessary. The prices almost deterred me from booking, but this experience was worth every penny! We will be back very soon. Thanks for an unforgettable evening.
Amazing meal! Great selection and creative menu. The scallops and bison strip were incredible entrees. Prepared perfectly and full of flavor and creative twists. Appetizers of the soup duo was top notch and the tuna tartare was very good! Will return to this hidden gem when in Telluride!
My favorite food in the world!! Outstanding vegetarian menu!!!
Nice ambiance, excellent food. Extensive vegetarian menu but regular menu also has great variety and creative combinations. Nash, our server, was super.
Most memorable meal of our ski week in Telluride. The small and cozy restaurant is beautifully decorated. The choices of beverages included organic apple cider as well as pricier wines with a few available by the glass. Dinner menu includes a separate vegetarian menu with so many intriguing options, it was difficult to decide. I opted for two appetizers, frissee salad with heart of palm and blood orange that smelled wonderful, and salmon carpaccio. Friends enjoyed monk fish, red trout, and a sausage sampler. I will definitely return on a future trip.
This was our fourth visit over the past 10 years. We have never been disappointed. The menu is always different and eclectic and most importantly every dish is delicious. Service is prompt, but not rushed and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Next time in Telluride, we will certainly return.
Exceptional on all points. Not often you find a restaurant that is fully on target with what is served and how it is served.
Food was excellent, nice service, great dinner.
Here's the good news... The food was creative and delicious. In fact, each dish (we had full meals with apps, main courses, and dessert) was excellent. Several of the dishes contained unusual flavors that really worked well together, and made the experience different from what we would likely experience at home.
Now the bad news... Throughout the meal it was clear that the staff wanted us out of the restaurant as quickly as possible (we did have a reservation). The waitress tried to remove plates before we were finished with courses (no kidding). At the end of the meal when the dessert was removed we still had some wine remaining. The waitress specifically said that she would not bring the check until we were ready. A few minutes later the manager brought the check, and then the waitress came over to 'apologize' that he did this. I find it very difficult to believe that this wasn't orchestrated given the staff's behavior throughout the meal.
So if you want creative, delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere, and don't mind being rushed out of the restaurant throughout your fairly expensive meal, 221 South Oak should be on your list.
We jhad an excellent dinner. Rachel and the rest of the team gave us stellar service. I had the hangar steak with a huge shitaki mushroom, great sauce and gnocchi. My husband had the watercress salad, dressing was to die for and the Scallops, The sauce on the Scallops the pears, cauliflower and broccolini were outstanding. He topped it off with a glass of arbarino and I had a glass of tamprinino with my steak which was cooked perfectly. The only improvement I see is a shortage of wines by the glass
Everything was wonderful. My husband had the house made sausage and he thought it was the best sausage he’s ever had! I had a wonderful vegetarian dish and a delicious cauliflower and kale salad.
We specifically chose this restaurant bc of the vegetarian menu. We
Truly our favorite restaurant in Telluride. Everything is outstanding: food, service, ambiance etc.
Very nice night out in a very cute setting. Dinner was delicious and Cordial. Highly recommended but more so for adults.
Appetizer was good but main course was bland. Dessert average. Service was attentive but rushed - I think they try to turn tables over fast. Not as good as we’d hoped from the reviews. May just have been a bad night.
Anniversary. Chose our favorite Telluride restaurant. Lovely ambiance. Excellent friendly staff. Delicious as always
Excellent service. Seats are uncomfortable. Good & interesting food that can't be found anywhere else in town. Great vegetarian options.
Delicious food, good wine paring, great atmosphere. Chef Eliza does a great job, continues to update and improve her menu, can't wait to go back!
Enjoyed a fantastic dinner at 221 Oak and it was delicious, great presentation, and affordable price. Had the opportunity to meet the owner/chef and what a pleasant surprise. Hats off to 221 South Oak.
Excellent as always! Look forward to eating here when we are in town.
Always a stop in Telluride. Exceptional food an d favors
This is an excellent place. Not inexpensive, but for a special event, recommend
My salmon was just plain with a fishy taste!
Was celebrating a personal milestone and hadn’t been to 221 in a while. Always always love Chef Eliza’s cooking and menu offerings, especially her exotic meat selections. She sources incredibly high quality food and cooks it right! As a diner who for heart reasons avoids (beloved) beef except very occasionally, it was a treat to be able to choose between a Rocky Mountain Elk T-bone and a Bison New York Strip (marinated in Telluride Brewing Company Face Down Brown and served with a chimichurri sauce).
As usual, the food was superb. I started with a shaved cauliflower and Brussels sprouts salad served with fresh mango and a spicy carrot vinaigrette and topped with a slice of dukkah crusted bacon —outrageously unique! I ordered the bison very rare and so it came. The flavors were incredible!
Great meal We never miss 221 when in Tell.
Fantastic food. Best Bison strip I’ve ever had
Loved everything about it!! Amazing service, food and ambience.
Highly recommended. The chef definitely knows what she is doing and is so creative! The parsnip cake was absolutely amazing!! We will definitely go back next time in Telluride.
This restaurant continues to be exceptional. After a powder dump the place was magical, warm, and welcoming. It is a cozy restaurant consisting of only two smallish rooms but the food is spectacular. I had the ahi tuna appetizer special and my husband started with a beef and ox tail ravioli. We didn’t have their soup but it is a must try. The concept is a yin and yang of two contrasting and complimentary soups each taking up half of the bowl! Always excellent. In addition to an imaginative entree list that includes the freshest fish, game, and beef (we had a marvelous tenderloin but don’t overlook the flank steak) 221 provides a complete vegetarian menu. Two types of f bread are also served. Wish we had room for one of their delightful deserts but we will have to pace ourselves next time.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic food and service . The hanger steak was amazing
Fantastic food and service as always!
One of our favorite restaurants in Telluride!!
This is the best restaurant in Telluride in our opinion. The food is excellent as is the service.
We love our experience every time we dine at 221! We try to make it part of our plan whenever we are in town!
We enjoyed the New Years Eve set menu however, for the price I would suggest a slightly different approach. 1. The portion sizes were too large for a 5 course meal. 2. Most of the dishes were "over-concepted" with too many ingredients – let less be more. 3. Consider including the service fee in the total price on a set menu. On the plus side, we had a very nice time. The food was good, just not great – the concept of fusion with lots of ingredients is somewhat dated ands some diners still like this, I'm not one of them. The cocktails, bubbly and wine were all terrific. The staff was very pleasant and attentive but it's clear they are not professional which is somewhat expected in a ski town. The venue is very nice environment for a meal. We have dined here before and we will again.
cosy restuant with attentive service and a knowledgeable staff
Both the regular and vegetarian menus are artfully composed with unique combinations of the freshest ingredients. Lovely atmosphere and clearly very popular. Best dinner in Telluride!
Here is my YELP review . . .
221 South Oak in Telluride is an absolutely incredible restaurant. They offer a stellar wine selection paired with a fantastic menu with a full second vegetarian menu. The service is beyond perfect. Rachel was our server who took this already incredible food experience to another level by making us her #1 priority.
I can't say enough about 221 South Oak in Telluride. If you are planning a trip to Telluride make sure you book your dining reservation 3 or 4 weeks in advance or you'll be SOL.
