Wonderful experience with great food.
Favorite restaurant in Telluride! Changing menu never disappoints.
Food, service and atmosphere was great until our server told us that somehow the kitchen threw out the portion of my brunch that I couldn't eat and I had asked to have it put in a to go box. They did make me another meal of same portion that I couldn't eat except forgot the fried potatoes and smoked trout that I had a good deal of left originally. Oh well, lessoned learned.
Everything tasted great but was overpriced, even considering the popular location in Telluride. The cocktail menu did not have prices -- the "special" (watermelon caprioska) turned out to be $15 each!!! I had trout with "duo of ravioli" which really is TWO little raviolis. My wife had herb gnocchi which was basically 8 tiny nuggets of gnocchi with some mushrooms and asparagus. Again, everything tasted very good, but we left feeling hungry and disappointed for the price.
Great service & fabulous food. Enjoyed brunch & creative menu.
Was impressed with the wine list, had an excellent dessert. Had many members of the waitstaff come to our table, some were better than others (Greta and Luke were very engaging and attentive).
Meal was outstanding - we also went there the night before and sat at the bar for drinks and desert - and it was lovely
Thought the food was good, especially the appetizers/salads for creativity.
But main courses were not exceptional .
Outstanding menu. This restaurant is nestled in a historic home with a darling outdoor patio in the back. Excellent craft drinks and wine menu. Service was outstanding. Can't say enough good things about it. We enjoyed every moment at 221 South Oak.
Fabulous food, great ambiance and they went out of their way to accommodate my son's allergies. Only thing missing is gluten free bread and wish we had a few more gluten free options in the appetizers but all in all a great restaurant.
My wife and I dine here every year. My only regret is not having enough time to try everything on the menu.
Very creative, well-prepared and tasty food! Extensive selections (if you can't find something you like, you're not trying - everything looks appetizing! But every time we've been there (many) the menus are well-used and look ragged. It's just a slip of paper in an iconic, (for Telluride)attractive folder.... but the corners of the outside folder are dog-eared and the inside paper is folded many times on the edges and used looking. They look un-cared for and it's one of the first impressions of a very good restaurant.
Great little bistro at the bottom of the gondola. Open at 5:30 pm. Trout was fantastic. Seared scallops were good. Good wines on the list, and craft cocktails.
Just another great experience! Made this reservation months in advance due to the July 4th holiday. Weather was perfect so we opted for a patio table. One caveat, the mosquitos can be a nuisance just after sundown. The service was great and Chef Gavin offers some of the best eclectic dishes you will find. She is always changing entrees so things never get old. I am amazed at what comes out of that tiny kitchen. Plus have Luke, their sommelier, suggest a special bottle of wine he might have he might hidden away. Beautiful town paired with a great dining experience. My guests are always blown away by the meals.
Their special cooking experiences are the beat!
The vegetarian menu is unreal--best I've ever seen! We look forward to this meal all year!
Lovely dinner on patio- carefully created and served. delicious!
They have good imagination, make good food but over the last few years some of the portion sizes are shrinking
Excellent evening with friends. Food is top 2-3 in Telluride.
Always excellent menu and great service. We thought the appetizers were a bit week and priced too high
Most delicious restaurant in Telluride. Amazing food every time we visit.
Love this restaurant but seemed to be having a staffing problem this night
Took our MInnesota friends there. Love sitting on the couches for dinner. Great place.
This restaurant's reputation is not deserved. While the ambiance is good, and the service adequate, the food is mediocre and not well prepared. Avoid this restaurant and go to Cosmopolitan nearby or to Butcher and Baker. The wine list is laughably over-priced - total nonsense.
Very pleased with entire experience!!!!
We had been trying to fit in an evening and the timing was perfect just before the off season closing! The waitress was awesome. We struggled with some decision making and she made it easy! She recommended a side dish from one entree to partner with another entree and were able to enjoy exactly what we wanted and more.
This is a place I would feel comfortable recommending to anyone!!!
Thanks for the evening. We compared it favorably to the dining experiences we enjoyed in Paris last fall!
Phenomenal food..very extensive and impressive menu for a relatively small restaurant. Service impeccable, comfortable and artistic atmosphere!
Amazing meal and the chef worked with my food allergies. We will be back! Thank you for an amazing dinner.
We had fantastic meal - best we had in Telluride. Would definitely go back. Wild boar tenderloin was out of this world.
We arrived for our 8:30 reservation and were directed to the bar while they waited for our table to be ready. The bartender was very fun and engaging. We tried some fun drinks and enjoyed ourselves while we waited for our table. We were shown to a cute table in the corner and were swiftly greeted by a very green but very eager waiter. He went over the specials with us and left us to review the menu. When he returned, he was able to answer all of our questions about the menu and he helped us make out appetizer and dinner selections. I had the octopus and my husband had the sweetbreads. The appetizers were very hearty portions and were simply delicious. I highly recommend the octopus to anyone who is a fan. For dinner I had the duck with squash and broccolini. My husband had the wild boar. Both were simply wonderful. The sauces that were served with the meals really made them standout. We elected to have after dinner drinks and macaroons for dessert. It was a beautiful meal in a very nice location with a wonderful wait staff. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Lovely place for a nice dinner.good atmosphere. But don't expect anything amazing. Venison oss bucco was dry and bland. Sweet potato mash was pedestrian. Red something cocktail was too sweet. Salted Carmel ice cream was to salty and barely Carmel tasting. Bay scallops salad was nice. Mountain trout was quite good. Elk steak was all right. Glass of Rojo suggested by waiter was delicious. We ordered a dessert to go for our daughter who stayed home to watch the toddler. The dessert had to be thrown away because they just slopped it into a box so that the berries and sauce were a huge unappetizing mess and the meringue pieces had dissolved into pulp. Don't sell a dessert to go if you can't package it properly or if you know it can not stand to go handling.
Amazing dinner with family to celebrate my birthday. Delicious food and wine. Eliza always makes it special.
Small restaurant, great food and wine, but hard to converse in the loud environment
This restaurant lived up to its reputation for creative dishes. The food was interesting and beautifully served. It fell a little short in taste. We enjoyed it but not enough to go back. For the price point there are better spots in Telluride.
We went to many great restaurants while in Telluride. This was the most special. Great for a date night out.
Great experience overall. Very professional waitstaff & hostess. Fun & creative dishes.
We dined at 221 a year ago and we were so excited to receive a gift certificate from family to dine there again. We made our reservation weeks in advance (hard to get into) and showed up at the designated time. Apparently 221 believes itself to now be a doctor's office because we were told it would be a wait for our table. No apologies, just a brash "You'll have to wait" from the hostess. Note: There is no place to wait - the place is tiny, but it was 9 degrees outside so we just stood by the hostess stand for 20 minutes.
Finally seated we perused the menu and both decided on the octopus appetizer and the scallop entree. The octopus was fine, although a little rubbery and fishy tasting. But the scallops? Oy, whoever thought this dish up? First, the thick goop under the scallops was almost identical to the octopus base, and had the consistency of baby food. Thick, pasty, too sweet. Unfortunately my husband got a bad scallop, had to spit it out onto his bread plate and run to the bathroom.
The cheesecake dessert came on a wafer the texture of a brick. It was impossible to break into pieces.
Our total was $159.00 - fine - here's our gift certificate for $200. Oh, that cannot be used towards the tip? OK, fine, here's a credit card for that. Both taken and never a single mention of the additional $41 of the gift certificate our family paid cash for.
Like La Marmotte, 221 S Oak has really gone downhill. Service is rushed (they try to seat far too many people per night), and the menu is ridiculously big. Scale it back and try doing 6-7 things perfectly, not 15 things meh.
Lovely quaint restaurant in the village of Telluride! Must have reservations but seating at the bar often a last minute option. We dined here twice in 3 days, we enjoyed it so much!
