My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous brunch at 221 for our first anniversary. Eggs were cooked perfectly, softshell crab was crispy and light and the patio was cute and romantic. Great service from Alaysha. We will be back in a few weeks to try some other brunch dishes!!
The staff took great care of us. We had some rather loud out of town guests with us and the staff was very tolerant.
We all enjoyed our dinners. Heirloom tomato salad, halibut, pecan pie, all delicious.
food was good, portions were small, pricey, waiter had an attitude.
Wonderful evening. Took our kids to a nice dinner. Great service and delicious food! We really enjoyed it!
Four of us ate outside on their patio and it was quiet, beautiful, and romantic. Food was very good. Staff could have been more friendly, however. Would have expected that in a small mountain town.
First visit here during a weekend in telluride. Excited about dinner as 221 gets great reviews. We started off rocky as our server was not very polished and was quick to pass wine questions to superiors. However, the food more than made up for his shortcomings. Every dish in each course was thoughtfully prepared and perfectly executed. Definitely our best dining in telluride.
This is one of my top restaurants EVER! I have been coming here for years and it has never been bad. The things she does with food are unbelievable. The menu changes and is always interesting and creative. I even bought one of her cookbooks and recreate some of the dishes when I can. Small and intimate which makes it appealing as well. Be sure and make reservations well in advance.
We enjoyed a wonderful, delicious dinner on their patio.
My husband had the elk, which he let me have "a little" It was excellent!
The appetizer of calamari, was delicious with the sauce.
The wine list was wonderful as was the dessert.
Great new menu selections. One of the best renditions of Pecan Pie I've ever had and I'm from the South. Can't wait for my next opportunity to return.
221 South Oak Bistro has an inventive menu featuring local fare from trout to elk to vegies. The wine list runs from very affordable to some excellent special vintages. We highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion.
221 is elegant while also homey, reflecting that the food is lovingly prepared from fantastic ingredients resulting in dishes that seem familiar but inspired. The wine list is comprehensive, service is attentive but not obsequious, and the neighborhood is charming. This is surely one of the best that southwestern Colorado has to offer.
221 serves traditional eggs benedicts and, my favorite, soft shell crab benedicts. They are so good. Don't be afraid if ordering soft crabs in this mountain town restaurant. They know how to do it right.
memorable restaurant. Interesting food with unique flavors. not to be missed
We were fortunate to get a patio table for a late dinner reservation. Our service was good as well as the food. Nice place for an evening meal of area Co food choices. We had the elk ribeye & the trout dish.
Excellent food....everything was well prepared. The first contact person was less than friendly and the wait person got involved with the larger parties. Could have been more attentive.
We eat at 221 every summer we visit Telluride and always enjoy it. Food is always good, but the service this time was bizarrely bad. Waiter was interminably slow and really missed the mark. The fact that pot is now legal in Colo made us wonder.
We had a wonderful meal at 221. I am a vegan, and they fortunately have a vegetarian/vegan menu.
Very friendly and accommodating staff.
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful meal in Telluride.
My daughter is a vegan so when we visit Telluride we always go 221 South Oak Bistro. They have a great vegetarian menu which can, also, be used by vegans. I had the Alaskan halibut. It was wonderful with great vegetables and quinoa. Another wonderful meal at 221 South Oak Bistro.
Great place to rekindle old acquaintances. Food and service is outstanding allowing pleasant conversion. We were not rushed as lingered after dinner.
Delightful experience in every way. An oasis of calm in down-scale Telluride.
Six of us were vacationing in Telluride and wanted to go to 221. What a fantastic evening! Our outdoor table was perfect, and ready when we arrived for our reservation. All the wait staff were attentive and professional. However, our primary waiter, Stacy was out of this world! She was a delight of a person, and very helpful with the menu. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates fine dining, but with a casual atmosphere! FANTASTIC!!
Chef Eliza has a knack with combining flavors and a respect for the fresh ingredients that shows up in the tastes in her dishes. She is flexible with ingredients to meet the needs of individual diners and takes into account special needs for allergies or dislikes. Sitting outside on a beautiful Telluride Summer evening and savoring a delicious dinner is hard to beat. Well, maybe her brunch can beat it slightly!
the food is interesting and delicious without being "precious" very fresh, flavorful and a nice environment to dine in with professional knowledgeable staff
Truly one of the best meals I have had in Telluride.
My wife and I both ordered elk, which was overcooked and just didn't taste very good. This was our most expensive dinner in Telluride, but wasn't worth it. We ordered elk at the New Sheridan Chophouse the following night, it was excellent. I will say the desert at 221 South Oak was very good, the outdoor seating was nice, but that's it.
Brunch at 221 South Oak Bistro is a necessity whenever we are in Telluride, but there were so many service missteps this time, we might not go back. The servers acted like it was an inconvenience that we were even there. Took ten minutes before we were even offered a beverage. And we ordered a squash blossom appetizer that was never even delivered. When our entrees were brought to the table and we asked about our app, our server said "I didn't hear you - you still want it?" We quickly ate and opted for dessert and coffee/more mimosas at New Sheraton. My family and I have always enjoyed 221 and I'm very sad about this change in the restaurant. The food is still great, but the service is terrible.
The menu is very creative in my opinion, and the flavor combinations are well matched and tasty. It was my favorite meal while on vacation in Telluride. The wine is not cheap, but it was commensurate with the quality of the food and the awesome mountain views from the back patio. The hostess/sommelier (Alicia) was supercool to squeeze us in at the last minute without an advance reservation. We sat outside on the patio, but the artwork in the indoor dining room was also really interesting.
We decided to eat here based on numerous very good reviews. What we experienced was disappointing at best. My wife and I dine out frequently and often share a salad. We asked our server if their salads were big enough to share. He said they were quite small and no. We both ordered salads based on this. When the salads arrived, we found that they were huge. At $12/salad we weren't too happy. The second issue was when I asked to substitute a vegetable for the quinoa my meal came with. He told me he didn't think it was possible, but "would check". When my meal arrived, I had the quinoa as the menu stated. Our server made no mention of the denied request for a vegetable. Led me to believe he didn't really check. Won't go there again.
Menu was creative and food prepared well. Wine list was good and Sommelier pleasant and knowledgeable.
Disappointed that although they knew it was my wife's birthday they didn't offer anything special with the desert.
what lovely hospitality combined with great food. the wine list is small but interesting,
with good prices for both bottles and wines by the glass.
the staff makes you feel that they appreciate you and provide warm and knowledible service.
221 South Oak Street Bistro is my favorite restaurant in telluride.
We always have a wonderful experience at this restaurant on our visits to Telluride. Unique food presented beautifully!
It can be a challenge finding delicious vegan meals when you travel. What a joy it was to discover 221 South Oak Bistro during our recent visit to Telluride. By chance,we made reservations on "Two-fer Tuesday" and enjoyed a gourmet vegan meal at about half price. Very cool! The tofu chimi churri was delightful accompanied by arugula and sweet potatoes. For dessert there was another surprise--vegan sorbet of cantaloupe and blueberry ginger.
From beginning to end our evening was perfect! The food & service were outstanding!
Highly recommend stopping here while in Telluride.
We dined here in June 2014. Appetizer - sausages were terrific. Interesting to taste the different meats. Entrees - striped bass (great) and chicken breast (great). Dessert - pecan pie (great for two to share, enough sugar and delicious). Ambiance - pretty, soft colors, beautiful paintings. A little crowded on tables. We dined inside but the patio in back is quite lovely. Only drawback - our server wasn't really into it, perhaps having a bad day.
Oh, and we dined on a Tuesday for their 2 for 1 on entrees. it's not on ALL of the entrees but is sufficient for you to have a good selection and some delicious food. With a glass of wine each, two entrees, dessert our check with tip was about $80.
Gourmet food. A superb separate full vegetarian menu. Large wine list. And they pulled out all the stops for our anniversary dinner including a complimentary glass of champagne. Our favorite Telluride restaurant!
Food was fantastic, Service was great and with a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. When were there when they had the patio open which is only open a few weeks a year but if you get a chance to sit outside, take advantage as the views are outstanding.
We went on the last day of the ski season because there wasnt much else open. We arrived early but were seated within ten minutes after grabbing some wine at the bar. Had the Bone Marrow with fried kale and spaetzle which was amazing!!! The buttermilk fried quail was tender and crispy.
The second course of seafood was good but not outstanding. If we had stopped after appetizers i would have goven 5 stars. My scallops were slightly overcooked and seemed as though it may have sat for some time.
Great service, energetic and appetizing!!
This is by far our favourite restaurant in telluride. just as expensive as the other ones but at least it delivers on food design, flavor and authenticity of the dishes.
Service uninformed and unenthusiastic. Food good, not great. Expensive.
221 was recommended to me and my wife by a local
What a fantastic meal. The place is owned and run by a former top Chef contestant
The restaurant does modern American and farm to table.
The crowd we had was amazing and very pumpkin butterscotch
Pie should not be missed
