22 Bowens Wine Bar and Grille Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit and it happened to be restaurant week. The atmosphere is clearly an upbeat one. The staff is extremely friendly and answered all our questions about various dishes. No problem in slightly altering dishes as one of us was allergic to mushrooms. Loved the New England Clam Chowder filled with lots of clams. Tagliatelle Bolognese with Ricotta was the perfect portion and incredibly flavorful. Both of my friends had the marinated steak tip sandwiches and said they were moist and flavorful. We would highly recommend coming here and we look forward to our next visit.
We had lunch as part of Restaurant Week. A three course meal consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert for $16. We were pleasantly surprised to receive full and generous portions of each part of our lunch. The food was delicious! Crab fritters, calamari, an amazing swordfish sandwich with a fresh green salad and one each of the included desserts. A decent sized pour of chardonnay and a Belgian beer completed our meal. The server (Amy?) was friendly, helpful and efficient. Two managers stopped by our table to check in with us. The setting on the waterfront gave us a beautiful view on a blustery Fall afternoon. After such a great experience we will certainly return and can easily recommend 22 Bowens.
we had an enjoyable evening-excellent menu selection- we had shared an app (tuna tartar)-excellent-very different w/jicama, then we had speciality meals: swordfish and chicken- both amazing- our server was Tracey who was very efficient and so pleasant....one of us have food allergies- 22 Bowen goes out of their way to accommodate
My gf and I came here for dinner during a night away from Boston and couldn’t have had a better experience. Food was excellent, wine and cocktails were delicious, and our waitress was phenomenal. Will definitely be going back again when we are back in Newport!
We absolutely loved everything about Bowen’s! So much that we decided to go 2 nights in a row. The service was excellent, the cold lobster and shrimp apps are amazing, and the room was quiet and inviting. I’m currently 9 months pregnant and was shocked to find many seafood options on the menu that I could enjoy as well as very comfortable seating. Definately recommend!!!
We enjoyed the location and the food. We shared a number of the plates and found them tasty. Wine list is expansive and cocktails are plentiful. We found sufficient options for beef, fish or fowl. Beef selection was impressive. A couple loud tables interrupted our ‘chill’ but once they left we were happy again.
Food was wonderful. But one very big disappointment: When I made the reservation weeks ago, I made it clear that it was to celebrate my wife's birthday. When we arrived in town the day before, I walked to the restaurant to confirm they had down the celebration of my wife's birthday. When we arrived for the reservation, I quietly without my wife aware re-confirmed that they were very aware of the birthday celebration and even quickly scribbled something on a piece of paper that was given to the person seating us that was to then be handed to our waitress. During our dinner, we witnessed other candles being served with desert presumably celebrating birthdays. When our shared desert arrived, there was no recognition, no candle. When I privately went to complain to both the waitress and the front hostess separately who remembered giving the note, all I got was flimsy apology "there must have been a miscommunication". In my opinion, the desert should have been written off a revised bill, but this never happened. Please forward this to the manager and/or owner of the restaurant. The evening we were there was 10/28/2017.
Excellent and elegant dining experience. The food was expertly prepared, on of the best filets I have ever had. My fiancé and I dined here to celebrate our engagement and we haven’t stopped talking about the food.
Highly recommend you stop here if you’re in Newport.
Food was great but we kept on asking our waitress for things, she never came over to see if we were ok, Can we get another drink, can we get sour cream, we always had to flag her down. We spent over $300 for 3 people so we would expect better service at this cost
Always a great meal at 22 Bowen. Love their filet. It melts in your mouth. We all got steak and everyone loved their meal. We got sides to share of creamed spinach, Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. We didn’t get an App so we could get dessert. We actually were pretty fill but shared the key lime tart, which was very good. Very consistent food. One of my favorite restaurants in Newport.
We had a 6:30 reservation for 2 that I made a week in advance. We got there around 6:20 the hostess had said our reservation was on time and they would be with us shortly. At 6:30 we were still not seated the hostess told me it would be 3 more minutes , 10 min later they sit us At a table on the outside of the restaurant that had been open the whole time we were waiting. Waitress gave us water and bread got us a couple of drinks and took our order. The waitress came back two more times for drinks then finally the meal came 45 min later. Food was good but it cost my wife and I 277.57 dollars for two people way way over priced. My wife and I have the luxury of eating out almost every Saturday night. I've eaten at a lot of upscale restaurants and usually don't care about the price but this was ridiculously expensive for no reason what so ever.
Great atmosphere, food was served and prepared perfectly. Fair price for a high end restaurant in a resort area. Extensive wine list and specialty drinks, again priced fairly. Hostess was friendly and brought us to our table with a smile , our waitress came very quickly and started by greeting us in a professional manner. All in all we enjoyed everything about our night out at 22Bowens.
We were celebrating our anniversary with a weekend in Newport. We wanted something casual but with tablecloths. And since the evening was very mild, we wanted to sit outside. Patio seating at 22 Bowens was perfect. Our server was friendly and helpful with with all sorts of drink and entre recommendations. She brought us the most delicious cocktails. Our drinks were followed by an excellent steak and sides with a perfect wine pairing. We sat for a long while enjoying our dinner and watching the sunset. It was a lovely evening and we hope to dine here again when we are next in Newport.
Dined here frequently since it opened and used to like it for a lobster dinner on the waterfront. This time the reception was poor, service uneven, food fair, value uneven at best. Reception, we arrived on time for a 6 pm reservation for an informal anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, they seated us along he runway to the restrooms when there were plenty of nice tables available. Service, we asked for fresh pepper for our salads, the waiter showed up his grinder but kept turning it counter-clockwise. Nothing came out. Duh! My wife wanted to reserve part of her salad to eat with the main course. Not once, not twice, but three times a bus person tried to swipe it off the table without asking. Food was meh, unexceptional, and we did not order anything too complicated. The price, one expects market price for a 2 lb. baked-stuffed lobster yet realizing there aren't any supply problems, $72.00 seemed excessive as was $24 for a small glass of mediocre Barolo. Full disclosure, I'm a native and familiar with the problems faced by restaurants in the off-season, but this is a ridiculous and self-defeating form of price-gouging.
