22 Bowens Wine Bar and Grille Ratings and Reviews
Excellent service and food. We were on a time limitation (needed to be out of restaurant in 1.5 hours) and gave our server a heads up at the outset. She was able to provide a fine dining experience (drinks and 3-course dinner) efficiently. Very consistent quality. Great variety for both steak and seafood lovers... choosing was difficult! We will be back!
Location and ambience is outstanding! A must destination when in Newport. Although we’re right on the shore, seafood selections and preparation are not that enticing. Opted for the hearty steak route, but was sorely disappointed. At servers recommendation, picked the “juiciest and largest “ steak. While it was prepared well, the cut of beef didn’t look familiar and the taste was lacking. They should seriously consider a different supplier. An overall surprising disappointment, but the views are great.
My friend and I were in Newport for a little get a way. Picked the restaurant through Trip Advisor. Their clam chowder was absolutely the best my friend and I ever had. I had the special which was bay scallops and she had a pork chop which was huge and delicious. Was very quiet and relaxing. Restaurant is located on the wharf so was a lovely view.
The food was very good especially the Lobster Mac & Cheese. However, I would not go out of my way to go back. The service was good but not very personable or friendly. We made a reservation and they just put us at a table in the middle of the restaurant looking at the bar. It was a special occasion and they treated us like we just walked off the street to have a casual bite. Yet, we spent almost $200. I worked in this industry for over 10 years and I would say this restaurant is not of the caliber of the prices for the meals.
We were seated at a table in the middle of a pathway, despite other less trafficked tables. We requested a better table and were moved. Everything was delicious and the view was wonderful over Newport harbor. Our server Michael was very attentive without being overbearing. The dishes were on the expensive side for what was served. Very nice dinner, but not as nice as the price would suggest.
Had a very good combined Thanksgiving and birthday celebration. All the food was very good including the vegetarian option. Service was excellent. Only negative was that one of us had scallops and found some grit or some other hard material in there. The waiter and the restaurant quickly and graciously brought a new plate. However it was disappointing to have that happen in the first place. They brought cake with a candle because I had mentioned it was the birthday of one of our party when I made the reservation on Open Table. That was a very nice touch.
Went for Thanksgiving. Waiter Al was excellent. We started with grilled shrimp appetizer which was very good. Can’t say the same for entrees. Turkey dinner $36 2 pieces of dry white meat no taste and some brown meat that was not good. Stuffing was tasty. The lady ordered the scallops Thanksgiving special. Scallops were gritty!!! The beet purée and cous cous that accompanied was tasty but the scallops was like eating grits of sand. Maybe every fourth one was not sandy. We did not have dessert because they ran out of the pumpkin cheesecake.
When there from a recommendation by on line reader. Food and service was excellent. Had the lobster Mac and cheese as an appetizer and the salmon and my wife had the scallops as entrée.
Dessert was homemade pie.
Definitely a try if you're in the Newport area. It's a little pricey but it's worth it
Wonderful Thanksgiving meal! Started with clam chowder and a harvest salad, both delicious, perfectly seasoned and salad dressing was superb. We both opted for the traditional turkey dinner and it did not disappoint—both white and dark meat were moist, homemade mashed potatoes, amazing stuffing, cranberry relish and garlic haricot verts. A plentiful portion left no room for dessert! The entire staff was so pleasant and we appreciated their hospitality and great service while having to work the holiday. An excellent 22 Bowen experience. Thank you!!
Thanksgiving meal. Special occasion. food was above average. Service was carefully attentive. One disappointment—After inquiring by phone, we were told there would be a regular menu with thanksgiving specials. I wish we had been able to see the “regular” menu, as the online menu displayed prices considerably lower than the thanksgiving version of the “regular” menu we were given upon being seated today. There should be a Thanksgiving version of the regular menu with accurate pricing available online. I have to think we were victims of a “bait and switch” today. Another disappointment—the chef was unable to correctly produce a filet cooked medium for one of the members of our party. The first version was overcooked and the second was barely medium rare. By the time this steak was fired to order, the customer was no longer interested in eating it. To his credit, the manager took this item off of our bill. The desserts were excellent—probably the best items served to us today.
We tried 22 Bowen during restaurant week, and had a wonderful experience. When we went back again after restaurant week, it was okay but certainly overpriced for what you get. A few mistakes were made with our order, and the waiter didn’t come around to ask how everything was until it was time for the check. Wonderful ambience, but food and overall experience isn’t worth what you pay for. If we go back, it won’t be until spring restaurant week.
My fiance and I went this past Saturday night to celebrate our engagement. We cannot begin to explain how wonderful the meal was. From the waiter, to the managers, to the hostesses who helped me with an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, the service was outstanding. The food was incredible and cooked perfectly and the music was great (Rodrigo y Gabriela). From start to finish, we were wowed. Thanks to everyone who made our special night their special night too.
