22 Bowens Wine Bar and Grille
Sunday - Thursday 5:00pm-10:00pm
Friday & Saturday 5:00pm-11:00pm
We went for our 13th wedding anniversary dining on a Monday evening with a 6:30pm reservation. Everything was phenomenal with two exceptions: 1. My husband's scallops were barely warm and some were on the verge of being overcooked so they may have sat in the window while they finished cooking my salmon which was one of the best I have ever had. 2. Once they got really busy, the service slowed down. We waited 15 minutes for a piece of key lime pie . Other than that, it was a great experience and we will return.
Delicious excellent sirloin!! Spectacular wine list & quality wine by the glass. Pricey
Outstanding! Made a reservation here and mentioned that it was our honeymoon dinner and they treated us so great! Service was outstanding and food was incredible too. View and ambiance were wonderful. We will be back next time we visit Newport!
This restaurant was fantastic. Very good food, great service, nice wine selection, knowledgeable staff. The waitress was accommodating to our special occasion, took very good care of us and treated us very well.
We were there for my girlfriend's birthday . The food was excellent as was the service. Unfortunately, there was a seriously drunk person at the next table who talked extremely loudly throughout our entire meal and negatively impacted our experience.
Very disappointing meal. The risotto was a overly large glop of wallpaper paste. Tasteless and cold. The salmon was well cooked but quite bland. Not what we expected from a Newport Hospitality Group restaurant. We have been regular customers of their other restaurants. This first (and last) visit to 22 Bowen was a disappointment. Not what we hoped for a milestone birthday celebration
The second visit in two weeks. We celebrated a wedding anniversary on the 7th and a birthday on the 22nd. Outstanding both times. On the 22nd we had Fabio as our waiter. We've had him before and he is an absolute pleasure. We had a gift certificate and I used the reward points that I've accumulated. The bill was $36.00!!!!!!!! We just love this place.
Ambiance, food and service were exceptional, reservations recommended. My wife's tuna as well as my swordfish were cooked to perfection. The fall salad special was delicious and a treat. For dessert, we had a difficult choice between their special choc. creme Brulee' or the choc. German & coconut cake. The next table with a family had both, they said both were great... and could not recommend one over the other. We chose the Brulee' and to our surprise our waitress brought both to our table! Our waitress treated us to the choc. cake. Both were fantastic, and a perfect way to finish the evening. Good thing we had to walk back to our room. 22 Bowens never misses, this is our #1 go to place when we visit Newport!
Went to 22 Bowen with a business acquaintance. Menu is a little confusing - you can choose your own sides or have their chosen sides on the meal. Menu is a little limited. Not great for a vegan. The Brussel sprouts and 22Bowen potatoes were incredible. The salmon overcooked - probably my fault. I think steak is their strength. They made a good cocktail.
We booked ahead to get a table, we were welcomed on arrival and shown to a spacious table near the window so we could look out over the hussle in harbour. We ordered oysters then my wife had steamed lobster and I had a veal chop. The food was perfect, the right time between courses and we enjoyed it all. Our waitress was a star, so friendly and perfect service. In chatting about our trip we told her we were on our honeymoon. She surprised with a beautiful dessert to share. It was a wonderful meal in a lovely setting. The service outstanding and the food brilliant.
Food and service outstanding as usual. Never disappoints.
We had a wonderful server and the food was delicious. They cut the steak for us because we were going to split it and the ceaser salad with white anchovies was the best I ever had! Great location also!
The evening really came together: a most efficient and agreeable serving lady, absolutely fresh raw shell fish, followed by one of the best pieces of beef filet I have had, grilled precisely to my request.
Wine list is incredible; I was especially happy to find a half bottle of a lovely Pinot Noir.
Great experience, albeit for top dollar.
Rebecca provides excellent service
The swordfish was awesome
The baked potato even better
Great food. Our server was not on par with the expected level of service. She was unsophisticated in table side dining service. She was confused as to why someone would order a cocktail in a rocks glass with a splash. So she brought it in a pint glass. When reminded of the drink ordered, she returned to the bar and poured the same drink into a rocks glass and poured the rest down the drain. Then she returned to the table with the over sweet drink with some attitude. She later regained her composure and provided acceptable service.
A wonderful dining experience from meeting the maître d’ to a very pleasant and professional server surrounded by lovely atmosphere.
Good food and service. Great location at the winery.
We have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. We were given a great table even though it was boat show weekend. (I had reserved well in advance through Open Table). It was near the outdoor seating with a nice view, and also not as noisy as other areas. Food is excellent...quality and presentation and taste. Very sensitive to food allergies. Service was impeccable. Great wine list. Loved it all and will definitely return when we are in town.
My husband and I have been to 22 Bowen several times and we always sat at the bar. This time I made a reservation more than a month in advance. Never again. The table we were put at was probably the worst table in the restaurant. Service was non-existent. We waited more than 20 minutes for our first drink order to be taken and I don't know how long after that for our waitress to take our dinner order. We watched our waitress serve everyone around us and not once did she stop to see how we were doing.
I will say the food is very good and we will return to 22 Bowen because the food is good and the service at the bar is excellent.
Good food but seems to be getting more average than exceptional. We have noticed this the last few times. We also have gotten 'stuck' in a bad table outside where waitstaff continue to cut through. It's rude and distracting.
We dined at 22 Bowen on Tuesday evening. We always look forward to their excellent food and superior service. This time was no exception. Highly recommend. Shout out to waiter Fabio, a consummate professional!
As always the food, service was great! Swordfish Special was delicious cooked to perfection.
The service was spectacular, wine menu with excellent pricing and some big standout classics and high quality ingredients and prep that allows the food to speak for itself. An excellent array of menu items from local seafood to high quality sourced meats.
The food, service and ambiance were all stellar. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a great dinner experience.
Food was excellent, the service was better! Our server was spectacular! She anticipated all of our needs and made very thoughtful recommendations!
Husband and I come here every year for our anniversary, and then again two weeks later for his birthday. Just as good as always.
My wife and I visited this past weekend. We ordered an entrée and side dish each from the a' la carte menu. We found the entrees to simply be a piece of meat cooked and served to you with no or minimal seasoning. You had the option put a sauce on the side, which came in a little ketchup tin. My wife felt her cut of tuna was amazing, but was disappointed she had to compose her own ginger wasabi sauce. I ordered a steak special as told by the waitress. I assumed it would be more expensive then the menu steaks, but was shocked that it was more than twice as much (40ish vs $85). I didn't ask the price, which is my fault, but I felt duped. I also asked for my steak to be warn red in the center, but it came out more charred outside with a purple middle. Ultimately, it was a very expensive steak that I didn't like very much. We also ordered the sautéed greens and fingerling potatoes; both were very average. We might have just had a bad run. It is a great location with a very nice ambiance. Based on its reputation alone, I would probably try it again, but I would be cautious.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. Food was amazing and service was over the top. Highly recommend
Outstanding in all aspects. The menu offers a nice variety of creative selections and is easy to follow. The wine list is excellent, with some hard-to-find treasures and several wines with enough age to give guests opportunities to enjoy them at proper maturity. Too many restaurants pack their upper-end list with expensive wines that are too young to drink. 22 Bowens gets it. Had a 2009 Latour Corton Charlemagne and a 2010 Heitz Trailside Select Cabernet Sauvignon. The food is delicious. And, the service is first class...informed, accommodating, attentive, welcoming. Could not have been better. We enjoyed all aspects of our evening. Great venue, food, wine and service.
Excellent service by our waiter, Al. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the wine list was extensive and reasonable.
I always enjoy 22 Bowens for lunch. Good food and great service.
Food was excellent. Service was equally on par. So good that we want the next night for dinner as well.
Great location on waterfront that has good food and good service!
Food is delicious. Good and interesting options for vegetarian and gluten free . Quinoa salad is amazing. Great ambiance. Upscale feel but not stuffy. Knowledge and friendly servers. Overall, a nice dining experience.
Great food and service. The appetizers were fantastic. We had the steak bruscheta and calamari. The salmon dinner was also really good. Overall a good place to spend a few hours eating and drinking. A bit pricey if your trying to be economical.
Hectic scene at 5:05 (they open at 5) as folks with early reservations and walk-ups all vying for attention with only one person able to do anything as far as seating (another on phone; another first day - very small greeting area). It feels like they should be able to handle it better, but it is what it is - best to wait to 5:20 or load up on patience for pushy customers. Also seemed like everyone else who walked in after us seated near us got served before us, but not that big of an issue and likely due to 5pm chaos. I suppose when we showed up at 4:55 with no one in lobby, they could have just seated us with the understanding that no one would serve us until after they opened and were ready...The food was good, in some cases very good, but it seemed like it was slightly less than you might expect given the price and rating. Not being from the area, dock side eating outdoors upstairs was our choice and we enjoyed the setting - but i cannot say with certainty that i would return and eat there - as i may opt for a more raucous setting closer to the water at one of the other establishments for half the price and (guessing) perhaps 25% less food quality. Still a quality meal, good ambience, good service (after the 5pm chaos) albeit at a significant though fair price.
We had a 845 reservation and waited 2hours for our food. Our waiter was great comped the drinks and gave us a free shrimp plate but waiting for our dinner for 2 hours is crazy
Let me start by stating that we have come here twice a year for the last 7 years. It has being going down hill over time but tonight’s dining experience was the final straw.
After checking in and being told reservations were being. Seated on time, after waiting 15 minutes we were told we would be seated in a few more minutes. We were finally seated and waited 10 minutes just to ask for a cocktail menu. We asked for bread 4 times to 3 different people before receiving cold bread. After waiting 15 minutes for our drinks. We ordered and waited 5 minutes before our appetizers came out. The oysters had horseradish spilled all over them, so if we didn’t want horseradish, it was too late. Also, the ten oysters were all poorly shucked, there were shells in all of them, yes all 10 oysters.
We completed the appetizer course and while waiting for our entrees we were asked 3 times if we wanted more drinks; the last time I gave in and ordered a second. Still waiting for the entrees, I finished the second drink and ordered and drank a third. 50 minutes after finishing the appetizers we were told our entrees would be right out. They came out 5 minutes later, over-cooked shrimp, which were cold and hard. The steak was also cold, and the advertised Delmonico steak was really just a bone in ribeye , so fatty that half of it could not be eaten. Fortunately, my girlfriend was no longer hungry and i ate her petite filet. To top it off, the table next to us walked out after waiting 2 full hours for their entrees.
We Will never go back and will never recommend this place to anyone. Safe to say that our neighbors at the next table would agree!
