Took my husband here for his birthday and we really enjoyed ourselves. The food was amazing from the Shrimp n Grits, Jambalaya, to the Duck w/Brussell Sprouts, everything was tasty and the service was great!
Everyone was very friendly but the food was pretty bland for the price point.
Our server Eva was absolutely great. The Crab Benedict and beignets were fantastic. Really enjoyed the ambiance and people watching through the front window. My new favorite restaurant in Old Town.
We had a late date night reservation for 9:15; we had drinks, an app, entrees, and got our check all by 10. We weren’t the last table in our waiter’s section by any means so it’s not like we were keeping him from going home. He could not have rushed it any faster- he didn’t even offer us a dessert menu. The table had three shims in an attempt to make it stable and it was still ridiculously uneven. My husband’s salmon was over cooked, not fresh, the rice was bad, and it all came out cold. My salad was what I’d expect from a chain restaurant’s sad salad bar. All in all, bad food and bad service. Probably won’t give it a second chance.
Great food. I had the jambalaya. I took my Dad here for his birthday. He enjoyed it. Great space. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It wasn't very noisy at all.
Inside d Ning room is very inviting and comfortable.
Ordered the crabcakes, in which certain bites seemed to have the distinct ammonia after-taste of old product. I should have sent them back but wasn't sure because of all the sauce and seasonings that covered up the taste. Certain bites seemed ok, but old product was probably mixed in with new. Very ill afterwards. Would not eat here again.
Cozy atmosphere great food.
As a lover of New Orleans, I was looking forward to dining at 219 for my significant other’s birthday. Having lived in NOLA for a while, I was pleased with the decor and the ambiance. However, despite there being only two other people in our dining room, the service was slow and disappointing. I didn’t expect the food to taste exactly as one would expect in NOLA, but it was tasteless. The pork appetizer was bland and over cooked, and my date’s Cajun rice was just rice. Good job on the chicken, though! I also ordered a vodka martini, extra dirty. But it was not served dirty, and there were no olives. The server paid such little attention to us that I couldn’t request a new drink by the time I had to pay the check, which I waited nearly 20 minutes for. On a positive note, the server removed the appetizer from our bill, but not the “martini”, which I didn’t touch. Until management or the menu changes, I do not recommend this place for dinner. Note: this was the second time I’d been here. The first time was for brunch on Mother’s Day when, after 20 minutes without being acknowledged by our server, we walked out.
Great for a date, great atmosphere. Food was good.
Although the live music was great, everyone was friendly, Staff did everything they could to keep you happy, ambience was nice, it was just too confined for me. I wish they could expand the walls a little, you know? I will tell you that the food was extra awesome!!! Kudos to the chef of that night!!!
Outstanding service! Excellent food!
Yeah such a nice place to serve cold and tasteless food.
This is my favorite restaurant in the DC Metro area. I love the ambiance as well as the the Creole cuisine.
Lovely atmosphere. Very polite & attentive staff. Pear Port, beautiful & bold. She Crab Soup, Crab Cakes, Salmon, & Shrimp with Grits all wonderful.
Bananas Foster left a little much to be desired. A small hair to noisey from lounge upstairs
Our server was delightful. I waited some time for my guests, he didn't make me feel awkward. Was celebrating an exciting promotion, mentioned in reservation. It wasn't acknowledged. That would have been a great topper for my guest. There was an awkward moment when. I was the only African American in the dining room and another African American woman came in looking confused. She leaned in and said 'I told him I was meeting someone, he assumed it was you.' We laughed it off but they should check names. Way too pricey of an establishment for those unfortunate errors. Otherwise, a good time. The dancing upstairs does shake the ceiling a bit, but you could have pleasant conversation with no issue.
The smell of smoke was a turnoff decided to still listen to music but the smoke was unbearable
Love this restaurant. The food is unique and delicious. The room is elegant without being stuffy, and the lit fireplace provides an extra layer of coziness. Definitely worth a visit.
Crab cakes Benedict were an all star.
Have dined several times here over the last few months, and it is becoming a favorite in Old Town Alexndria. Attentive service and super food!
Sublimeand absolutely perfect food and service! I loved this restaurant for our date night!
Loved the food and upstairs area, music, cigars, drinks.
Valentines dinner with my wife. They offered a 3 course meal with options. We had the salad with beets and beef filet with Brussel Sprouts, mushrooms and potatoes. Everything was great! Our compliments to the waiter staff and chef! We will return to try the other dishes.
If I could give more than 5 stars for the service I would! Eva ws wonderful! Attentive and enthusiastic!! It was a wonderful experience!
We had quite an enjoyable time at 219! We went this past Sunday for brunch. We ordered the shrimp & grits and the blackened salmon at the suggestion of our waitress - Eva the Diva. :) She was an uncommonly friendly & inviting host. She was SUCH a warm and personable presence & makes an awesome team member especially at a place that seems to be intended to exude southern charm. And if that’s indeed the case, Eva is steeped in it! The beignets were excellent. They were light & airy with just the right amount of sweetness as they’re supposed to be. I found the collards that accompanied the salmon to be a smidge too vinegary, acidic for my particular taste but they were still good. The salmon was excellent at a perfect medium rare. And the dirty rice was a great addition for the entree. My guest enjoyed the shrimp & grits although I noted that I’d have liked more shrimp & grits with less sauce/broth. Our entrees came with a complimentary Bellini & it was well-made. Keep at it, 219. We enjoyed ourselves. And Eva, don’t change a thing about yourself! We’ll be returning.
Lovely ambiance and wonderful server!
Wonderful food, appetizers, entrees, desserts. Attentive staff. Charming dining..
loved having our meal by the fire place next to the bar. Very nice treat on a cold night. Excellent Creole food
The food was excellent! I had the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly and flavorful. The staff is extremely friendly and will take care of your every need for a wonderful experience.
Bartender made an excellent mock tail!
The food was delicious however there were two other parties in the room so we found ourselves screaming to talk. Our waitress although sassy and fun was very slow; she messed up checks even though she gave us all a number; she forgot to bring change.
Came here for brunch and just loved it. The staff was thorough without getting too involved, and the food was perfect. We loved the beignets! Although we were clearly the first customers for the day, everyone was ready to go and we never got that awkward feeling that sometimes comes with being the only patrons. On another note, I found the decor to be absolutely lovely and romantic. It felt like sitting in a New Orleans restaurant.
Incredible food and even better service. New Years eve dinner was worth wonderful. Highly recommended.
The food was very good, starting from the Amuse all the way to the dessert!
Superb spot for Saturday/Sunday brunch. Menu has a heavy New Orleans Creole influence but has a few touches from the Chesapeake Bay mixed in. Menu choices were not extensive but balanced well so that there would be something that would appeal to anybody. Food was well prepared and not overly rich or spicy. Attentive and friendly service. Fireplaces in the dining room were crackling and were most welcome on a bitterly cold day.
Everything was very nice except my mother wanted the fried chicken & the waiter said you were out if it. She was NOT happy about that if you DON'T have an item then remove it from the menu !! Other than that everything was fine.
For Christmas dinner, 219 was chosen for its old-fashioned, quiet elegance. An added bonus was being seated in front of the roaring fire! The food was overall good, with attractive, delicious appetizers to start off the meal. All aspects of the pork dish were quite good. The tenderloin was a large, perfectly cooked portion, but it was served with unevenly cooked potatoes and carrots that hadn't picked up much of the sauce flavor. One of the plates arrived cold with the top piece of tenderloin slightly discolored. My guess was that it possibly sat under the heat lamp awaiting the other entrees. The desserts were only so-so. Fortunately the service and the atmosphere made up for any small shortcomings on the plate.
Wonderfully cozy setting. Very attentive wait staff. Delicious food and appropriate serving size.
This is definitely a restaurant deserving of recommendations and a return visit.
The food was quite good. My wife got the salmon which was excellent. I got the jambalaya which was good. Our service was a little below expectations, especially for such a quiet night (only 4 tables occupied). And the restaurant interior seems a little dated. The food was the highlight and I think the chef did a great job. It was the other stuff that made it just an average experience when it could have been excellent.
