21 Oceanfront Ratings and Reviews
21 Oceanfront is simply one of the most beautiful restaurants we have ever dined in. Our server (Monique?) was excellent and provided us with well-timed yet unobtrusive service.
We began with the Salmon Poke' Stack which I found flavorful and delicious but was a little too fishy for my wife. this may well have been due to the addition of large salmon caviar on top of the stack. Still, I thought it was a nicely constructed appetizer and the home-made taro chips were a delightful accompaniment.
Next, we each had a cup of lobster bisque. Quite frankly this was the only part of the meal that was a bit disappointing. As a bisque it was fine but there was no finesse involved either in it's preparation or presentation. It was simply bisque with no accoutrements and it was rather plain and boring - especially when comparing it to everything else.
For entree's I had the abalone appetizer and my wife had the Alaskan King Crab Legs. My wife's (crab) legs were huge, luscious, and perfectly steamed, and my abalone was sautéed to perfection. Both came with nice accompaniments. For dessert, the Grand Marnier soufflé was perfection.
I was excited to try this old gem of Newport beach, but then we arrived.
I could not believe the way the other diners were dressed. From sweats, to rip jeans, to barely dressed! I thought we were going for a fine dining experience....we were wrong!
PS...the food was very marginal, but the wait staff was doing everything they could to improve the situation, they really were great!
If you want to to have a conversation during dinner or even hear your waiter, avoid being seated in the bar. While the music is not bad, the volume was annoying. Our waiter did forget one of our salads but comped one of our desserts. The lobster bisque was really floury. The surpise of the night was the 8 bucks we were charged for a single prawn to even out the number in our shrimp cocktail. Why the shrimp cocktail came with an odd number seemed strange to us. The valets did a great job considering the tight spaces they are working with.
Fantastic food expertly prepared to order. Friendly staff and warm ambiance. The separate bar area is more boisterous if that is your thing. The dining room was more sedate but not stuffy or sterile. I would definitely recommend this for couples or special occasions.
We celebrated our family Christmas dinner at 21 Oceanfront. We had a great time. The food was excellent and the service was the best! Roberto, our waiter took great care of our large party. Thank you to everybody at 21 Oceanfront for a fantastic dining experience!
Definitely a "taste of Newport" I'd say.
There are a lot of flashier places, hip-and-happening types of places, in Newport Beach. But a place that serves really good food, carries the true feel of Newport Beach while delivering a high-quality dining experience, are becoming harder to find. This is one of those places.
Locals love it.
While the Maastro's type of places attract the see-and-be-seen crowd, mostly people from elsewhere and others whose main goal is to impress (the Los Angeles type of crowd) this place is elegant while laid back and easy. I run into people I know from town that I haven't seen in years who are just out for a good dinner. Its really nice.
Prices are reasonable.
I had the Ossobuco and it was excellent. My date had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was light, moist, very tasty and the portion was perfect. The wine-by-the glass list should be expanded a bit, but the wine list was more than adequate. It was a very relaxing dinner.
After dinner we took a slow walk down the beach and let the surf roll the last drops of stress out of our minds.
A very nice evening indeed.
My husband and I were in on a Saturday night, it was the last day of our vacation so we were hoping for a nice night out. I didn't realize I should have specified when making a reservation that we would rather not sit in the bar. It was so loud! It made it difficult to hear each other and the server. We started off our dinner with the crab cakes — do yourself a favor and keep your $24 because these were soggy and boring. On a more positive note, we had great service, my husband liked his steak and the french onion soup was good. But if I could go back in time, I would do our last night in Newport Beach differently.
The escargot was delicious and the seafood was prepared quite well. Although the dining area near the bar was a little loud, this was a fantastic experience. I would advise this place for any special occasion and I would love to be there to see the sun set over the Pacific!
This was our first visit. We had heard good things and saw great reviews, and we were not disappointed. The food here is of the “classic” variety - steaks, seafood and such. None of the “modern” preparations of more trendy restaurants. Service is outstanding. They don’t fawn over you but they are very attentive. We had the scallops wrapped in bacon appetizer - so very tasty. I had the swordfish - a signature dish of theirs and it was quite good. I’m more of a steak guy, but I was not in the least bit disappointed by the fish. My wife had the salmon and enjoyed it very much. Chocolate cake for dessert. Also quite yummy. They had live music, which I didn’t expect. The singer was set up right behind me, so it was a bit loud...the waiter had the volume turned down a bit, which I really appreciated. The singer had a great voice and and it was a nice add to the evening. It is not a cheap date night; total bill was $300 which included alcohol and tip. We did have a few drinks through the evening - you gotta love Uber for the drive home! The meal, service, entertainment and overall evening was well worth the price.
I picked this place to celebrate my birthday with my family. I picked right! The food was great and service was amazing. They even had a slice of cake for me on the house. The only thing that almost spoiled the night was a group of diners that were so loud and boisterous it ruined the ambience. Thankfully, the place wasn’t full and we were moved to a different table.
Last minute birthday celebration... a friend reminded me of this wonderful ocean front restaurant and while talking to her on the phone I was able to quickly make a reservation through open table... found not have been easier! Thank you!
Arrived a few hours later... were seated at a very nice table for two by a window overlooking the ocean. We enjoyed delicious crab cakes, swordfish, rack of lamb, garlic mashed potatoes, mushrooms... sooooo yummy!!!
We were served a beautiful and delicious piece of chocolate cake with a candle and also ordered a creme brûlée that was out of this world... exceptional... yum!
Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner ☕️🎉🎁🍰🍷
Great service. Beautiful place. Great place for an intimate meal. I love the booths and just relaxing with cocktails. Last time I was here I got the beautifully plated Asian pear salad and I also got the pasta. Lobster ravioli, it was good but I expect better. Too much sauce overpowers the ravioli. But that's not what you're paying for here. It's the service and view. The creme brûlée is amazing and so is the service. I also liked my blueberry martini. I recommend this t
restaurant and will be back soon.
Restaurant is a prefect place for a special night out. Location was great for sunset view, parking is close by, very clean as well. Our server was extremely friendly and offered her suggestions from menu. Steak was cooked to perfection from cook along with veggies. Highly recommend the Filet Minon and New York Strip.
21 Ocean Front is always very good.
However in going there recently, I had called days ahead to reserve a window-side table, for a special occasion.
The hostess said she will do the best she could and that reservation requests are filled in the order the reservations are made - which is totally understandable & fair. However we got seated in a booth, not a window seat. And there were window seats available. So maybe someone was ahead of me on the reservations list, and they were arriving soon and would be seated there. But throughout the night those window seats, and other tables in the restaurant, remained vacant.
We went to 21 Oceanfront for a bachelorette dinner and had a fantastic time. It's hard to really drive home how good the food was. We enjoyed every single thing from appetizer to dessert. The coffee was even delicious!
There were a couple of large parties there while we were there so the restaurant was loud in the bar section, and we were sitting right behind the bar. It did quiet down after about an hour. It's saying something that even with all of the noise we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely go back again.
The live music was really enjoyable and the musician did a fantastic job, both with his voice and his song selection.
We only had one small hitch. One of the women in our party ordered crème brulee, but it wasn't listed on the menu that the chef actually puts chocolate chips in his crème brulee. Not a normal part of that dessert! It was actually quite delicious, but that friend is highly allergic to chocolate! Catastrophe was averted when she tasted it on her first bite and stopped eating, and the waiter even let her choose another dessert for her trouble. Just a heads up in case that allergy applies to anyone reading.
The view of the sun setting over the ocean perfectly capped off our evening. We were very satisfied and had a fantastic time.
this was our first time visiting Oceans 21, the food was amazing, we had the crab cakes for appetizers and there were incredible, and the mix plate for 2 was our main course with the lamb rack was the best I have ever had. Our waitress was very nice but seemed distracted the entire time, from the moment we sat down she seemed unsure if she had taken our drink order then brought the appetizers but didn't share about any chief specials with us so we had to ask to take our order. forgot to put part of the order in so we got our side towards the later part of the meal. There was someone important in the restaurant who she seemed very excited about maybe she was distracted, the food was great other then that.
