21 Oceanfront Ratings and Reviews
Second opportunity to dine at 21 Oceanfront, and we weren't disappointed. The receptionist, Sarah, confirmed all the pertinent information related to our reservation, and our waiter, Roberto, did a superb job ensuring our every need was met or exceeded during our dining experience. Great location, fantastic ambience, and if you're fortunate enough to catch the sunset, you will not be disappointed. We'll definitely be back soon!
Although this restaurant came highly recommended, my husband and I both agreed that the food was mediocre at best. Service was slightly better, but for the price and location, I expected their seafood to be better. Many more restaurants in the area are superior
The food was excellent, and Monika, our server, is both a true professional and a delight to interact with. They were also very accommodating when we requested to come earlier than our reservation time. Of course, we understand that outcome may not have been possible given different circumstances, but the friendliness with which our request was received was all that could be expected.
Went here to take my wife out for her birthday. Everything was good until we went to leave. We spent $200. After we walked out the doorman came after us and asked to search our doggie bag stating that the manager said we had taken a plate/charger. The charger wouldn’t have fit in the bag in any event. After he confirmed no bag We then went back into the restaurant to confront the manager. The manager and server stated that they had no idea what the door man was talking about. This was embarrassing and ruined the whole birthday celebration.
We make 21 Oceanfront our "go to" place for special occassions! In the 20 years we have never been disappointed!! The service is top shelf, along with the food, cocktails, wine list and the view. Gracious and welcoming staff make 21 Oceanfront our premier dining spot even with the hour drive.
The restaurant is very nice and sits on a fine location near the pier in Newport Beach. The food portions were horrendously small, not worth the price, but everything did taste great though! If it was more reasonably priced or portioned, this would be a great place to go.
GM greeted.us and was very pleasant. Downhill from there. Service was virtually non existent, food was decent but could have been hotter. Chocolate soufflé was cold and chewy. Server never came back to ask us if we wanted another bottle of wine, coffee or a cocktail so we left. It’s a shame because is a rally cool place but I doubt we’ll go back.
We had a wonderful dinner, the food was delicious. There were a couple issues for me. The restaurant is elegant and expensive. With that I excpect high quality food, courteous and excellent service and while we had that I ordered the 12 oz lobster tail...no way that was 12 oz. I did however pass another table and their lobster tail was huge. There were also a couple tables with small screaming children and I do mean screaming. This isn’t a I dont love kids thing, I do and have 4 of my own and I wouldn’t allow that in a restaurant but why in the world would a restaurant of this caliber allow that. Kind of ruined our special evening. Would I go there again? Yes but I would have later dinner reservation and would ask to not be near children. Soufflés are a must!
This is a restaurant with long established roots in Newport. The food is near perfect and the service is well above any other. You’re going to pay for those. My wife and I enjoyed every minute. My wife had filet with lobster tail and I had the salmon. We decided to split a chocolate soufflé with Mexican coffees for dessert. Overall the best meal we’ve had in Newport Beach.
21 Oceanfront is simply one of the most beautiful restaurants we have ever dined in. Our server (Monique?) was excellent and provided us with well-timed yet unobtrusive service.
We began with the Salmon Poke' Stack which I found flavorful and delicious but was a little too fishy for my wife. this may well have been due to the addition of large salmon caviar on top of the stack. Still, I thought it was a nicely constructed appetizer and the home-made taro chips were a delightful accompaniment.
Next, we each had a cup of lobster bisque. Quite frankly this was the only part of the meal that was a bit disappointing. As a bisque it was fine but there was no finesse involved either in it's preparation or presentation. It was simply bisque with no accoutrements and it was rather plain and boring - especially when comparing it to everything else.
For entree's I had the abalone appetizer and my wife had the Alaskan King Crab Legs. My wife's (crab) legs were huge, luscious, and perfectly steamed, and my abalone was sautéed to perfection. Both came with nice accompaniments. For dessert, the Grand Marnier soufflé was perfection.
I was excited to try this old gem of Newport beach, but then we arrived.
I could not believe the way the other diners were dressed. From sweats, to rip jeans, to barely dressed! I thought we were going for a fine dining experience....we were wrong!
PS...the food was very marginal, but the wait staff was doing everything they could to improve the situation, they really were great!
If you want to to have a conversation during dinner or even hear your waiter, avoid being seated in the bar. While the music is not bad, the volume was annoying. Our waiter did forget one of our salads but comped one of our desserts. The lobster bisque was really floury. The surpise of the night was the 8 bucks we were charged for a single prawn to even out the number in our shrimp cocktail. Why the shrimp cocktail came with an odd number seemed strange to us. The valets did a great job considering the tight spaces they are working with.
Fantastic food expertly prepared to order. Friendly staff and warm ambiance. The separate bar area is more boisterous if that is your thing. The dining room was more sedate but not stuffy or sterile. I would definitely recommend this for couples or special occasions.
We celebrated our family Christmas dinner at 21 Oceanfront. We had a great time. The food was excellent and the service was the best! Roberto, our waiter took great care of our large party. Thank you to everybody at 21 Oceanfront for a fantastic dining experience!
Definitely a "taste of Newport" I'd say.
There are a lot of flashier places, hip-and-happening types of places, in Newport Beach. But a place that serves really good food, carries the true feel of Newport Beach while delivering a high-quality dining experience, are becoming harder to find. This is one of those places.
Locals love it.
While the Maastro's type of places attract the see-and-be-seen crowd, mostly people from elsewhere and others whose main goal is to impress (the Los Angeles type of crowd) this place is elegant while laid back and easy. I run into people I know from town that I haven't seen in years who are just out for a good dinner. Its really nice.
Prices are reasonable.
I had the Ossobuco and it was excellent. My date had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was light, moist, very tasty and the portion was perfect. The wine-by-the glass list should be expanded a bit, but the wine list was more than adequate. It was a very relaxing dinner.
After dinner we took a slow walk down the beach and let the surf roll the last drops of stress out of our minds.
A very nice evening indeed.
