A great place to go to help the culinary school learn their skills in an upscale atmosphere with a limited delicious menu. A great thing for those that live in Frederick County to support the FCC culinary school.
Selected steak frites as entree and while steak was perfectly cooked the meat was chewy and tough. Even had trouble cutting with a steak knife. Salad and dessert were excellent. Suggestion to purchase a better quality meat.
Was a great meal, prepared and served by students of FCC culinary and hospitality services. WE ordered the shrimp risotto and the chicken crepes. Everything was delicious...wish they were open longer, and more than just Thursday evenings.
This is part of FCC hospitality degree program. If you like participating in the community and giving students experience this is for you!
As they are only open for a short burst of time each year, we try to make it in at least once each year. This year was exceptional. The menu this year is prix fix, 3 courses for the very reasonable price of $30. I had the MD crab soup and it was amazing. Lots of crab meat throughout. Husband had the chopped salad. He enjoyed it very much. We both had steak frites for entrees. Steaks were cooked medium as requested and very tasty with an herbed butter topping. Fries were crispy and haricots verts rounded it out. Desserts were both very good, but we had to take to go because we were too full! We already have a reservation to go back during the last two weeks they are open. I really wish they could do this year round. Previously, I have enjoyed lunches here, too, but they are just doing dinner on Thursdays this year. Rachel was an excellent server. We really enjoy supporting the culinary students. We certainly get more than our monies worth!
The 200 Monroe Restaurant is a fabulous dining experience. The upcoming Frederick Community College culinary arts student graduates do a wonderful job of practicing cooking skills they have learned. The environment is upscale and the hostess/waiters/waitresses are very friendly and attentive. I excitedly anticipant meals from future graduating classes for many more years to come.
Super fun evening. Culinary institute restaurant. 3 course menu. $30 per person. No tipping. No alcohol. Watch them prepare your meal. Rate the meal to help the students improve. We will be back.
There were 4 choices of entrees: chicken crepes, New York strip, shrimp risotto and Portabella mushroom steak. My husband ordered the chicken crepes, asparagus served alongside, which was tasty but not a big plate of food. I had the shrimp risotto, which filled my plate with lots of rice and 5 large shrimp. It was very good. I saw the steak served at other tables and that was one BIG piece of meat, with french fries and green beans. We did not notice anyone nearby with the vegetarian Portabella option.
We could have had Maryland crab soup or chopped salad for the first course. We both took the salad which was large and not just an average salad.
Finally, dessert could be creme brulee, triple chocolate torte, or tarte tatin with ice cream and caramel sauce. My husband enjoyed his creme brulee and I enjoyed the torte, but next time I think I will ask for the tarte tatin, which they started to deliver to me by mistake.
Great place to go to support local people learning culinary and hospitality skills at the college level. Very nice modern looking restaurant.
Food was fantastic! We were encouraged to try some of everything offered and we did - even dessert. It was an exceptional meal for a pittance - a meal one usually only gets in a high class restaurant. The service was very good and it was enlightening to be able to talk with some of the students as well as the teachers. I can't wait to go again!
The food is delicious; service excellent. Dining at Open Table is a unique experience. I have been there twice. First time we ordered from the menu and the second time it was buffet. Loved everything no matter how it's served. I will return and will spread the word. See you all when you open for business again.
My friends and I were very impressed with the service and the food!!
My only compliant is that they need to keep track of reservations and
changes in reservation requests in a better manner!!
Truly enjoyed dining at 200 Monroe, where the FCC culinary students prepared and served a delicious and diverse menu. Our server Jared was very pleasant and efficient and gladly answered our numerous questions. The meal was better than some meals I have had at better restaurants. We look forward to going back next spring!! Kudos to the students, teachers and staff.
Great experience. The students take great pride in their work.
First time at restaurant but read all the reviews and was really excited for a great meal! Was not disappointed! Server, Jared, was friendly yet professional. Food was delicious! Dessert decadent! Wish it was open for dinner too! Looking forward to visiting Jared's Food Truck in Loudoun once he graduates in a few weeks!
Enjoyed wonderful meals at 200 Monroe twice. We look forward to next season. The food was first class and the service was professional and friendly.
Absolutely wonderful from beginning to end!! Our service was excellent and the food was fabulous!! We had the Alsatian Tart, Salad, Chicken Scallopini, Manicotti, and Beef Loin and they were all delicious! And then......came dessert! The flourless chocolate cake was to die for but the blackberry apple crisp with the homemade caramel ice cream was just incredible!! So very proud of our FCC students and staff and of course Elizabeth!! Hats off to all of you for a job well done!!!
Training operation for local community college. Food was good; dessert was a highlight. Staff friendly and mostly efficient ( clearing empty plates was a little slow)
This restaurant is a training experience for the local community college culinary school. We were very impressed with the taste and presentation of the food. The service was excellent. We will definitely go back again.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2 visits to this dining room and look forward to my next one! I love the fact that it's a teaching/learning environment for students, while the quality of the food is excellent. I will continue to "show it off" and "talk it up" to friends!
The food was excellent and attractively presented. Being seated where we could watch the final steps of preparation and plating, as well as interaction between the students and instructor was a plus. Reservations essential since the period it is open is brief.
Great food and good service. I would highly recommend this restaurant. I just wish it were open longer because it was booked and we had trouble getting a return reservation. I look forward to returning next year.
Had lunch at 200 Monroe for the first time the other day with some co-workers and it was outstanding!! We were greeted with friendly faces and shown to our table. Our waiter was awesome - very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. The food was delicious!! Some of the best asparagus I have ever had - cooked perfectly! And the best part was we were supporting a great program - the FCC Hospitality, Culinary, and Tourism Institute. I would definitely recommend this for everyone!
My husband and I enjoyed our lunch at 200 Monroe which was run by the Senior Culinary Students from FCC. We enjoyed meeting our waiter, Jared. He was very enthusiastic and personable. We loved the first course soup and the onion tart. The main course of crusted tuna and manicotti were both original and delicious. For my part, would have liked more herbs/ seasoning in fresh tomato sauce. My husband thought the crusting over-powered the tuna flavor just a little. My lemon tart for dessert was" to die for" as was the chocolate cake. Happy to see gluten-free and vegetarian options. Great Job students!!
This venue is conducted entirely by Frederick Community College students who prepare and serve your three course meal. The students put their all into their work and make this a great place for a delicious repast, in a pleasant environment, at a minimal cost. Definitely worth checking out during their limited (springtime) availability.
We were very happy to have this leisurely meal with friends. No rush whatsoever.
The limited menu prepared and served by chefs in training was wonderful.
The faculty was a bit noisy but the pleasant staff counterbalanced.
The food was hot, presented and played well and was very delicious.
We will be back next session.
Onion tart, manicotti and flourless cake were superb!
So glad you are back this year.
A terrific way to have a wonderful meal and and support FCC. The menu had more options than I anticipated and the food was very good.
Amazing value for an open-kitchen experience, gourmet and beautifully presented food, and knowing that you are supporting community college students in their culinary endeavors. As the restaurant is located at the school and the waitstaff is made up of students who are not trained waiters, you should expect that the service is going to be imperfect and the ambiance institutional... however, the spectacular food (for an incredible value) and genuine enthusiasm of the students/staff made our experience truly enjoyable! The vegetarian options for each course were delicious.
I have been there twice and each time I was happy with my selections. Since there is choice of three, maybe I should go one more time to taste all three choices. The presentation of the courses were really good. Each course was delicious, especially the soup du jour. I would have ordered again the second time, but you were out, since we came at 1:30pm. The polenta was memorable. If I was younger, I would enroll, just for myself, so I could cook as well as your students. Our server was very efficient, helpful and friendly, adding to the delightful experience.
I plan to go again.
Awesome value! You get a three course meal and beverage for $15. The food was very good, specially the lemon chicken and polenta. The service was excellent and everyone is very friendly and relaxed. I will definitely return. The only draw back is the hours are very limited.
Not disappointed at all!, I was pleasantly surprized to come across 200 Monroe. The FOOD WAS WELL EXECUTED, and PLATED WITH FINESSE. THE BUTTER WAS HAND CHURNED AND BREAD FRESH BAKED. TRUELY THE BEST LEMONADE I HAVE EVER HAD IN FREDERICK. I ordered the onion tart, wild mushroom manicotti, and flour less chocolate cake. The tart was succulent sweet caramelized onions in a feather light puff pastry boat garnished with olive tapenade and crisp bacon cubes: Very delicious. The wild mushroom manicotti was filled to perfection with fluffy cheese and mushroom goodness , wrapped in a light crepe, that rested upon a creamy spinach mouse and finished with a fresh tomatoe confit. The basil garnish, takes the dish to a whole new level. Therefore, the dish could have used more basil. And I would have added some whole crisp roasted wild mushrooms for added depth of flavor, and interest in the garnish. Overall, it was a great dish. The flour less chocolate cake was amazing, from the chocolate ganache brush stoke bed to the chocolate whipped creme garnish. Indeed the richest chocolate desert I think I've ever tasted. A must for chocoholic. The service was attentive and prompt. All questions about Ingredients answered . We even discussed the preparation of the cake with the pastry chef. The atmosphere reminded me of French bistro. Cozy with table Cloth service. We will definitely be going back!, it is a great experience , 3 course chef menu for only 15.99. Beverage included.
Excellent training situation for hospitality& kitchen work. Would be nice to offer more frequently.
The atmosphere, food, and service were all delightful. My husband, who tends to be a picky eater, enjoyed all of his dishes. We had the kabob and he noted that it had a very good flavor. I especially enjoyed the apple crisp which was bursting with flavor.
all aspects of the meal were delicious and presentation was visually pleasing. Wait staff was courteous and attentive. Price for 3 course meal was a true bargain and portion size was ample for lunch. Enjoyed watching our meals being plated on the video monitor. I highly recommend you visit 200 Monroe for an economical and enjoyable meal.
TERRIFIC food. Best lunch in town. Amazing value. Lovely service.
A great opportunity for delicious food while supporting young people studying in the hospitality program at FCC. Recommended!
The food was incredible- especially the chicken scallopini! I would love to go back again!
We so enjoyed our lunches at 200 Monroe. The food was exquisite and the service was impeccable . Cannot wait to come back and enjoy another incredible lunch at 200 Monroe.
EXcellent service and delicious and creative dishes-- we loved it at 200 o roe. Will return again soon, for sure😊
