We have been to 1919 numerous times over the last 7 years and it is always outstanding. Food, ambience, wine list and attentive service are all superb. This is comparable to the finest restaurants in New York and London which we go to. 10 stars!!
Attentive service, wonderful options - delicious meal leave room for dessert. If offered - get banana bread to take home!
Wonderful eccelctic menu. Every course is a creative gem. The decor and ambience are superb. The hospitality alone will keep us coming back.
Absolutely superb restaurant, gracious service, excellent wine list, and food preparation and presentation first class.
It's an experience for sure. Asked if we could meet chef Jose, he came right out and shook our hands! The food was very good, tiny portions on the 4 course wine pair menu. A little tricky, some of the better choices on the menu had an upcharge and other menu items were only avail if you chose to go the a la carte route. Wasn't happy about that but for $500 both of us fully enjoyed the 5 star pampering instead of catering to 3 starving rambunctious children. Nicely done 1919
Excellente!! Exceptional! We adored our waiter, Ivan! Everyone was wonderful. Received loaves of banana bread to take home as a gift for our breakfast.
Hotel with high style but lacked the warm ambiance I hoped for. I think it caters more to business clients. For example the wine list was on an iPad.
They provided lots of treats from two amuse bouche to a special anniversary desert treat and cake to take away which was wonderful.
My pork belly salad was delicious except the salad was swamped with sauce.
It was a great dinner experience which you expect for the price but not as good as Niche or Marmalade which were superlative
Absolutely fabulous! The food, service and ambiance were all magnificent.
My husband and I eat here every time we visit San Juan. We look forward to a great meal. Last night there was a party of 8 that arrived. Their table was near ours. For some reason it had to be reconfigured. Rather than having the 8 patrons wait up front, they stood over and around our table, talking and having a great time, while we were having our meal. I told someone who works at the restaurant that it was very disturbing. Nothing was done to move them....and then more people joined them.
It made a very good meal very unpleasant.
A perfect meal for our last evening in Puerto Rico.
We were greeted with a warm friendly smile. The room was beautiful. Tables spaced nicely apart for private conversation. The menu was varied and had great options. I loved loved loved the Tuna Tartar and bread pudding dessert!
We had a wonderful New Years Day dinner at 1919. The place is really beautiful and the food and service and drinks and wine all excellent!
We had high hopes for 1919 based on the reviews. We’re experienced with both fine dining and upscale quality restaurants, and would not recommend this restaurant to others visiting San Juan.
Positives: beautiful decor (keep in mind its formal for the area). Incredible wine list (though fairly pricey with lowest cost options around $65).
Negatives: inattentive service, rude service, missed requests, charging us incorrectly when our bill came, dishes that were hit or miss.
Then there were just weird things about the meal. We did the “$75 pre fixe” which included 4 courses. However, the second course had ONLY options that required an additional upcharge, making the meal closer to $85-90 per person on average.
The chef supposedly worked at previous Michelin star restaurants so we expected better quality across the food and service.
Overall the value and quality of this meal was just not there. With other good options in the area, it’d be hard to recommend.
Other nights we ate at Marmalade, Cayo Blanco, and Cocina Abierta. All were more casual but had way better food and service.
Great New Years celebration. Wish the dining experience would have been shorter though.
Great food, outstanding service from the whole staff. Overall great value. Looking forward to return.
Spectacular food and service at this amazingly comfortable high end restaurant. They treat you like royalty. One of the best meals I’ve had in years.
Service was fantastic. Ambiance was sophisticated. The quality of the food is very good. The food was well prepared except for the duck which was med well instead of med rare as ordered. The food was bland so nothing was awesome or memorable.
Excellent food and service. Special occasion dining.
All around amazing! Food was delicious, service impeccable, ambience relaxing! The $75 4-course prix fixe meal was a bargain by New York standards. Many options to choose from for each course and lots of little extras from an amuse bouche to a palate cleanser to a fruit cake to take home. Will definitely return next time I’m in Puerto Rico!
Era mi cumpleaños... me encantó el lugar y la cena exquisita. Lo recomiendo!
Unforgettable experience! Where is they’re Michellin Star? For a moment I didn’t realize I was in Puerto Rico. The service and attention was out of this world, but let me talk about the food and wines! Just Wow! Mindblowing flavors, platings just on point. Thank you 1919 for so much!
The food was good, but not amazing. Would come again.
Food was delicious, service was good, ambiance was lovely, but they messed up our bill and tried to charge us for things we did not order. Had to send back the bill several times for corrections.
Excellent as always. Perfect!!!!
Amazing! Enrique, the waiter, was the best!!
Be careful with the wine pairings on the a la carte, they can be up to $25 a glass which can be a surprise if you don’t ask to see the menu. Not that price is a concern if you’re coming here, but 50.00 for two glasses of brut would’ve been a substitute for a martini in my book.
Recomendable , exelente servicio y gastronomía buena selección de vinos , un restaurante en una de las zonas más exclusivas de Puerto Rico..
Awesome! A wonderful spot to celebrate. Food was as outstanding as the service
Wonderful experience. Came back for a birthday weekend in PR and had dinner again at 1919. Never disappoints. Food, service, ambiance all the best. Will be back again next time in PR.
I had called to ask for a special table with waterfront view. It was dark but after waiting for someone to appear at the reception desk, we were taken to a table next to a noisy group of business people so we couldn't comfortably talk at all. The acoustics are poor and the restaurant is dark so it was even hard to read the menu. Before ordering, we were asked if we wanted to order wine without knowing what we would order. The menu was limited, the portions small, the prices high given the quality. The restaurant would never make it in NYC. We ordered two glasses of good white wine but@$19 a glass. I checked the retail price in NYC=about $16 a bottle. Restaurant markups are 300% but this was much more. In Jean Georges in NYC a 3 star Michelin guide restaurant, we had comparable wine for $13-14 a glass.
The rolls were ordinary. The service lackluster and the coffee not just bad but poorly made, all with pretense.
The following night we ate in Marmalade where the atmosphere, lighting, comfort, noise levels and service was vastly superior. The food was refined, creative and delicious and we had better wine for much less. I had a glass of a $50 retail Pinot noir for about $14. The chef owner came to our table and we left feeling well cared for. Leave 1919 for people on expense accounts staying in the pretentious hotel and too lazy to look for a really good restaurant
Great food, but don't count on this being a romantic night. We arrived at about the same time an event for 60-80 people that took up the entire central section of the restaurant. They were normally loud, but also were making announcements on a microphone that completely ruined the effect of a special, quiet night. Live music started after a while and that made the noise more tolerable. The service was a little shaky at times but overall good. The food was still very good despite so many people arriving at the same time as us.
The place is very nice and definitely is must to try . Luxury feel, reasonable pricing for wonderful quality and presentation of food ! Have to point OUTSTANDING SERVICE, excellence to the details, VIP TREATMENT!!!
Love this place and would recommend to others.
From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we felt special.
The food dishes were interesting - and some excellent.
The kitchen was embarrasingly slow.
The bar was uncomfortable both for the server and for the diner.
Absolutely wonderful dinner. Amazing service with fabulous food. Should be a top pick here.
Excellent experience . Treated like VIPs. Looking forward to returning.
Being from NY and having the privledge to dine at some of the finest restaurants in the world, this restaurant is one of my top 3. I make it a priority to dine at 1919 every time I am in PR. I would highly recommend the chefs tasting menu. My only disappointment is having to leave.
We had a fabulous time. The food was unique and delicious, and the staff was attentive without being annoying. Wish we could go back all the time!
Surprised - no Michelin stars? They do deserve it,at least one.
Best luxury Manhattan like place in Puerto Rico.Go there twice a year at least,it's only getting better.
