This was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant any where in the world. The staff was uninformed confused and frankly extremely rude. When we were finally seated 45 minutes after we arrived we then sat for 20 minutes before being acknowledged or brought a menu only to be told that they could no longer offer us the 4 course menu but instead could offer us one course at Half the price of the four courses. The staff acted as though it was our fault. Terrible service, terrible attitude. Shame because the restaurant has potential but not worth the terrible service.
Give the man a Michelin Star - this place is equivalent to Jean-George’s and Boulud and we have frequent dining memberships at each.
Also - the sommelier is spot on on pairing wine and food
Jose was our waiter and was absolutely wonderful.
Exquisite, flawless, and fine dining at its best. Chef Cuevas really knows how to put on a show with his eyes for fresh and delicious ingredients. From the caviar to the truffles and to the cochinillo, every part of the meal was simply divine. Truly a restaurant worth a visit when in Puerto Rico! Bravissimo.
1919 was pricier than I expected. Also the next evening we tried to go to the Vanderbilt’s Tacos & Tequila, however we were turned away at the door. The staff said it was only for hotel guests. That wasn’t stated on the website. Totally ridiculous that they were eager to take the $500.00 from us for 1919, but we were not good enough to be allowed in Tacos & Tequila. Will rethink going there again.
Overall we were very impressed and loved it. Smart casual means no shorts (we didn’t know this) so we ended up sitting at the bar, but it worked out better and we still had the same 4 course meal options. Everything was delicious and it was our favorite place in PR to eat/drink. The restaurant will comp valet parking at the hotel btw. Would gladly come again!
Overpriced, pretentious and arrogant. The restaurant is beautiful - a lot of thought has went into it. Our issue is that for a four-star restaurant, the service was terrible.
We had a 6:30 reservation and we knew that the service would be slow but we never expected to leave there just before 10:00, And we only got out by 10:00 because we pushed them. When we complained about this, we are arrogantly told that they are farm-to-table style and nothing is prepared before they need it so the food takes a long time. I don't think that they understand that most high end restaurants are preparing the food to order. This is not Applebee's.
With one of the dishes, my girlfriend did not realize that the dish was covered in vinegar. She asked to have it replaced without the vinegar topping. Given that my girlfriend missed that it did include this on the menu, it was no reason for the manager to come over and interrogate her how this happened since it says that on the menu. The arrogance is overwhelming.
The food was delicious but the portions were mixed. Some of portions for the courses were so minuscule that you would need practically tweezers to eat with.
The drinks that we ordered cost a fortune but contained virtually no alcohol. It was like drinking fruit juice. It tasted very good, not was totally lacking of alcohol.
Additionally, even though this was a $99.95 for four-courses, more than half of the items had up-charges. So you should expect to pay a lot more.
Unless you have 3.5 hours to kill, you're not hungry and want to pay $100 per person just for the food, I would skip. There are much better places. When we were done, the bill was $900 for six people. Never again at 1919.
By far the best restaurant I have ever experienced. It was our 5 year anniversary and they even brought out desserts with a cute little note!
The longest meal I have ever had. 3 plus hours for 4 courses. Took atleast 45 minutes between each. The food was good but not worth the money.
Excelente mezcla de texturas y sabores una experiencia a otro nivel !
Food was amazing - back of the house is on point! We were seated for 15+ minutes before anyone offered water (and only after someone in our party told the host), 40 minutes before drinks arrived, and 90 minutes before the first plates of food arrived. We honestly would have left after not getting water, but our options were limited due to the 9pm curfew in place due to COVID. They did alert us things were going to come out of the kitchen slowly, but I'm not sure that same principle should be applied to water that is ready and waiting at server stations. Spending that much on dinner should come with exceptional service, and that was just not the case at 1919 on a Saturday evening. I've spent a significant amount of time in the service industry and the lack of checking on how we were doing was a total letdown. However, if you're not worried about great service and only care for phenomenal food, then 1919 is your spot!!
Amazing! Great food great service beautiful vibe. The view to outside was wonderful!
Excellent service better food and good selection of wines
We ate here while on vacation. Food was only average for the price. Service was terrible. Hurried, inattentive. Courses came out too slowly and plates and glasses were not cleared for 15-20 minutes after each course. The waiter did not explain any of the courses, could not give recommendations and did not inquire as to how we were doing at any point. No one refilled bread, water or wine. For the price and advertising, we were incredibly disappointed.
The food and service were outstanding. We would return again, however, the only issue we had was with some of the other patrons. This is a higher end establishment and some of patrons seemed to roll off the beach into the dining room and brought their beach manners along with them. Standing on chairs and singing songs like they were tailgating at a sports event.
My expectations were really high from this restaurant, which could be the reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. The servers were super nice and professional, but the courses were delayed. We had to wait 40 minutes for the third course. We ended up filling ourselves with the delicious buns and did not enjoy the third course as much as we wanted. So make sure not to eat too much bread, they keep coming if you don't tell them to stop. :)
One of the best meals I've had in several years. The chef and service were incredible. The food was outstanding-well balanced, and not too heavy. Would come back to Puerto Rico just to dine at 1919.
Everything you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant - absolutely exquisite
It was good, but for the price range I’ve had much better food.
It was an immense pleasure to enjoy 1919. Both William and Joshua were very attentive and made us feel comfortable and at home. We selected the Chef’s Table and we had one of the most outstanding meals we remember. Chef Cuevas was able to really shine through his tasting menu, from the first bite, tetê de cochon to the cochinillo his sophisticated flavors and balance led seasoning showcase his and his culinary team talent and the high quality ingredients he sourced. Exceptional food and impeccable service made this dining experience an unforgettable one.
Amazing tasting menu and service. Staff was very attentive and the various additions to dinner was appreciated.
Amazing staff and food. Wine was overpriced but overall experience was great.
It was divine. I recommend getting the Chef's Dinner selections. I even got a chance to take a picture with the chef! It was the best meal of my entire life.
My birthday dinner was awesome, really was better than I expected. The service, ambience was excellent. The roast duck was juicy Mouth watering. Would definitely come back when in Puerto Rico.
Food was out of this world and the service was as to be expected of a restaurant of this caliber. Incredibly good experience. The salmon and Wagyu steak were major major hits. Would most definitely eat here again.
The deserts are on point, the entres and main course need a little more flavor and wow factor.. The Mac and cheese should’ve not been included in the main course.
Excellent experience! Exquisite cuisine with great attention to details! All menu items cooked to perfection!
Only be aware of hidden costs not openly stated ahead of time, like the supplement for lobster and Wagyu beef...
Definitely the most evolved cuisine in pR, just be prepared to pay the price!
Marvelous Easter Menu by distinguished puertorrican chef, Juan José Cuevas. Extraordinary view to the beautiful sea. Excelente ambiance and service.
Great Easter Brunch! This restaurant never disappoints.
Everything was outstanding making the cost worthwhile in my mind. Food was outstanding, service was great, loved the ambiance.
Note - we had a nice table by the windows. If we had one of the couple of crappy tables I noticed we would have been upset. At this price point there should not be any bad tables.
We did not have a very pleasant experience. The waiter was frantic as he had a large party in a separate room and a table of 6 and me and my wife. He came over about 30 minutes after we sat and quickly went over how the menu worked. Didn't see him for quite a while. When he came back to the table he was curt and just said ok meaning what do we want. I asked him to slow down. He took our order and after 2 hours we had yet to even get our 2nd course.
We asked for a manager who really didn't do much. At that point we had enough and refused the 2nd course when the waiter started to bring it out. It was apparent we were not as worthy as his other guests and left. We have been to many Michelin star restaurants across the globe and this is not the kind of service a Michelin restaurant is expected to provide.
It was our Anniversary. We did a wine pairing with our meal and enjoyed the experience. We had a great time and learned quite a bit. Most of the food was fantastic and the wines paired up nicely. When we visit San Juan again, we will certainly go back to 1919.
We were recently there on our Spring break trip as a family and to celebrate my birthday. We had made special notes for a special table and also my birthday. They did seat us promptly but in center of restaurant. I was okay with it because they were fully booked. They never acknowledged my birthday and the service started out very good but quickly fell apart. One very nice gentleman helped with drinks and gave me the wine list but the next waiter who explained the menu was not friendly and very aggressive also rushing us. The wine list was taken away and once we ordered my first course came out wrong so I waited for them to fix it which took a very long time. After our second course we waited over an hour for our dinner to arrive. The wine I ordered with the waiter they didn’t have so I had to choose another as well. No staff acknowledged us during the very long wait for dinner. When I asked where it was the guy put his hand in my face and was very rude. My salmon arrived and was extremely salty. Needless to say we spent $500.00 because they told us we had to pick four courses which normally we would not. The service was below average and while a few of the dishes were delicious. The rest was just okay. My birthday was never recognized either. Know before you go about the $95 price fix four course and maybe reconsider if your not okay with five star service and food for the cost.
Everything was great. I proposed to my girl here and the staff did everything to help make it a special night.
Great experience all around
Waiter didn’t explain what was being prepared well.
Halibut came raw- Waiter was insulted when we returned it to the kitchen and basically ignored us the rest of the evening .
When it finally came back out of the kitchen 30 minutes later it was fair . We had to constantly go to the hostess stand to ask for our waiter for anything.
3 hours later the bill finally came - after 2 requests to the hostess to get the waiter and they didn’t bring a pen to sign the bill.
Another 20 minutes while the hostess and the waiter searched for a pen
Finally arrived with a pen , and the 20% gratuity was in there, as the waiter looked at me signing the check and pointing out where an additional tip could be left.
Worst dinner of the trip
I am an experienced 5 Star diner and 1919 is an overrated , overpriced bust!
I was in room 1071 and went there on April 1, if you want more detail.
Wesley the waiter was horrible and added to the miserable experience.
PRICED LIKE 5 star with 1 star food and 1 star service
Great evening! Wonderful service, wine, and the food was incredible!
Celebrating a new job
Very attentive service and one of the tastiest meals I’ve ever had. The display of each dish was so unique and artist!
We ate the Prix Fixe menu and I was surprised to see some items were charged extra. The whole idea of fixed price is ... fixed price! I'm sure there were first/second course plates whose ingredients cost less but they weren't priced at a discount so why upcharge other selections? Set a price and stick to it, no matter the selection of dishes.
We were disappointed with the coconut/mango dessert. The coconut flavor of the rice pudding was overwhelmed by the mango sorbet...tough pairing.
My wife enjoyed the wine pairing option, obviously a lot of thought was put into the selections.
