We've been to 1906 several times before, and I anticipate we'll be back several more times! It's an outstanding restaurant. Naturally, it helps economically if you are members of Longwood, which we have been for many years.
For our annual get together with friends, this venue is perfect! We were able to see the Longwood Christmas lights and the conservatories before escaping the cold, into this warm and friendly dining room. The menu is always innovative and it is worth trying their interesting pre-dinner cocktails. we had the hot toddy and the winter sangria. Our appetizers and entrees were delicious, if(we felt) rather on the small size for portions for the prices. Particularly, we enjoyed the leek and mushroom gratin and the two soups-butternut squash and mushroom. The duck entree was one of the best duck recipes we have had, with the fat nicely rendered and the skin crisp and crackly. Our server, was attentive and chatty which we appreciated at this obviously busy time. We loved the complimentary peppermint chocolate bark presented with our coffees, at the end of the meal, making it the perfect finish to a lovely evening! It might might be worth Longwood Gardens to offer a discount on the entry tickets if you have a reservation at this high -end restaurant to encourage more people to dine here-as it is an expensive evening with the entry tickets as well, even with our (one) member discount.
Fantastic from start to finish. The drinks were suburb, the dinners were fresh and just the right size and our server was friendly and funny. Enjoyed every moment. We’ve been here before and we will be back!
The restaurant is very nice - a formal ambiance without having a dress code. The food was delicious, but the dessert blew me away. It was a apple cheesecake mousse, in a red sugar mold in the shape of an apple! It was fantastic! Someone else had a flower pot chocolate cake (I think) with a flower pot, dirt, and flowers that were all edible! It is a little expensive, but the food and ambiance were worth it.
It was nice food was good nothing exceptional. Seating was crappy for the price I wouldn’t have expected to be cramped at a too small table brushing elbows w the diners beside me.
Food undercooked. Lobster served raw. Poor meal. Will not go back.

It is supposed to be a very busy restaurant, and the table setting is quite crowded.
We went there on a snow day, so the whole restaurant is nearly empty (thus my impression of the Noise level may be very much biased). Foods are fine, not the best we had but still quite delicious.
The most impressive part is the dessert, which deserves all my good words.
The lobster was chewy and rubbery and tasteless. The salad bitter. The kale in one of the meals was undercooked and bitter. The dishes were sparse and overpriced.
It was a huge disappointment.
The casual elegance and outstanding cuisine were perfect for our anniversary date night! The outside tented patio was toasty warm on a frigid evening, and we enjoyed seeing the Christmas lights glimmer through the tent windows. It was a magical setting and we felt free to linger for the evening. Our food was cooked to perfection, exquisitely presented, and portions were perfect. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I have eaten in the restaurant many times and we were disappointed at the food we had the other day. The food was not hot and the shrimp were overcooked. While my salmon was good, the polenta under the salmon was not very good. I expect better from the 1906 at Longwood and look forward to trying the restaurant again.
Lunch at 1906 is always a special addition to our visit to Longwood.
Offerings are a good value for the quality of the food, the beautiful surroundings...pristine table linens, and the very personable waitstaff. Never overdone...just always comfortably classy.
Outside dining on the patio during the warmer months is exceptional.
The food was fantastic. Could not stop telling my husband how great it was. The only bad thing was the dirty wineglasses we had. Servers where great . A little expensive but since it was such good food it was worth every penny. Our hats of to the Chef's
It was the coldest night of the year and the accommodating staff organized transportation for us from the entrance to the gardens to the restaurant. The food was very good but the deserts demonstrated an amazing amount of imagination and good taste! Keep enough room in your order so you do not miss them.
We have eaten here every year for ten years during the Yuletide festivities and this restaurant never disappoints. Menu choices are varied, well cooked and nicely presented and drink options are equally interesting and delicious. The service is always pleasant and efficient.
The food was fantastic. Excellent preparation and presentation. The service was quick, but not rushed. My wife's flower pot/bread server had a chip on the rim which does take away from the ambiance...especially considering the dollar value. When this was pointed out to our waiter, he seemed to infer that this was a common issue.

Fortunately, we were seated indoors but one of the nearby tables was very loud & disruptive. The service was a little slow, we didn’t get our drinks until after our brioche. My tenderloin was medium-rare and my date ordered his medium but his was just as rare as mine. The special red blended wine was nice as well as the rum cider. The desserts were huge-we should have shared one.
We always love dining in this restaurant. But on this past New Years Eve, the dining experience was just mediocre. Our reservation was for a table out on the porch. Although enclosed and heated, the weather was extremely cold and it was not comfortable dining out there. They did agree to move us inside but the table they gave us was not n the main dining area. The menu was nice but the food was under seasoned and the quality not up to the prices that were charged. Service was good although not highly attentive. We will try the restaurant again but probably not on a special occasion. The restaurant definitely didn’t live up to the very beautiful experience we had in the gardens.
Pricey but food was excellent: mushroom soup outstanding, bread and desserts creatively crafted and delicious, main courses very good. Only downside is we were in the plastic wrapped outside eating area that was heated but not enough to combat a very cold night. By the time our meal was done our fingers and toes were froze and we had to huddle in the visitors center to get warm enough to make a dash for the car!

While the food was quite good the restaurant lacked ambiance. It was New Year's eve and there was little festiveness inside, no quiet music and decorations were little to none.
The 1906 restaurant is within Longwood Gardens so you would only dine there if you were already in the Gardens. My wife and I are members of Longwood so we visit several times a year. We particularly like to see the Gardens on New Years Eve where the holiday crowds are at a manageable level. I do recommend you make your reservations for this restaurant well in advance because it is very popular for that evening as well.
We always find the meal to be fabulous and the service is very good. If you are a Longwood member, you receive a 10% discount which makes it a good price performer.

We had been attending 1906 several times per year for the past seven years, and had always been happy with the restaurant. Unfortunately, this time there had been a recent change in online reservations such that tables are reserved for indoors versus outdoors, but the option to select the area is not clear or evident online. The outside table was cold and poorly lighted. The food was well done as usual. The only downside to the food was that we had to request the brioche bread in pots, which we had considered to be a signature item at 1906, and it was a bit dry when we finally received it. Should we attend in the future, we will definitely call to request an indoor table.
A bit pricey but thoroughly enjoyed our meals. My husband had the pork chop and I had lobster tail.
Loved it! Will be back as soon as remodeling is complete!
1906 was a wonderful spot to enjoy dinner on a cold New Years Eve. It was just right and when the tree outside our window lit up, it made us all smile. Being at Longwood that night was almost as good as going to the fireworks! And dinner was really memorable!

Food was mediocre at best...service was good..was expecting a lot more for the $$...next time we'll have beer and pizza at the bistro ..

Food and service was very good. The menu was limited but the choices were good. The mushroom soup was delicious. Having dinner at 1906 was a perfect way to celebrate the Christmas holiday at Longwood.

We make a habit of eating at 1906 every time we stop in Longwood Gardens (usually 3-4 times per year). It never fails to provide excellent food, great service, and fantastic ambiance. I strongly recommend an outing to take a break viewing the spectacular foliage provided by Longwood. We will be back again and again.
We took my in laws to Longwood and 1906 as a Christmas treat. Of course the gardens are always spectacular, but this restaurant was over-hyped, unnecessarily expensive, and boring. Perhaps because of the large Christmas crowds and demand, it felt like the goal was to serve as many diners as possible in the quickest way possible...we’ve all seen this before: get ‘em in, get ‘em out. Cocktails and wine selection: Fantastic! We ordered a dirty martini, Reisling by the glass, and a “fire something” cocktail that was bubbling and delicious. The drinks we’re exactly as specified and worth the price. The food: For the high end price, the only “extra” you get is a warm mushroom shaped muffin with salted butter; good, but no gluten free offering for our GF guest. Soup and salads are ala carte. And very expensive. We ordered the duck breast (the chef recommended medium rare and it was rare and the meat was tough and barely warm); the pork chop lacked seasoning, the salmon was average, and the Black Sea bass was cooked to within an inch of its life. The seasoning of most of the dishes was one-note. Don’t expect nuance or surprise. The portions were small. It almost seemed like the dishes were waiting under a heat lamp to serve the large crowds.
The atmosphere: For high-end dining, nothing felt particularly warm, special, or relaxing. It was dimly lit and cold, but somehow still frantic with people coming and going all the time. There was a draft coming from somewhere the entire dinner...perhaps from the make shift tent that was set up adjacent to the restaurant through a side door to accommodate overflow. The ceiling tiles were dirty and water-stained.
For meager flavorless portions and a harried pace, the $200 for 4 was not worth it. I’m surprised a world-class horticultural wonder like this does not offer a world class dining experience to go with it. Keep your money and try one of the other charming restaurants in nearby Philadelphia.
This was a celebratory dinner! We were not disappointed with our dinner. Location- Longwood Gardens— added to the day & evening. We will be back!!
