We had a very enjoyable evening, the staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, overall a great place for a night out.
Our evening meal was for a birthday and we found it innovative, quite tasty, but disappointing in some ways, eg tough pork tenderloin, desert quite disappointing but the deck atmosphere was nice. Not planning to rush back. sincerely.
The mushroom soup is exceptionally good. Crab cakes were delicious too.
We normally eat at the Café next door, so this was a real treat. Everything was delicious, fresh, well-portioned in a relaxed, scenic atmosphere with great service. Highly recommended.
Just OK. Our waitress Kara was great. There were 4 of us dining. The food was average, but my cousin said his seafood was over cooked and tough. It all started going downhill as it began to get dark and the bugs came out or should I say in. We then had to share dinner with the gnats and flys. Pretty awful to see a gnat making his way through the beautiful mushroom shaped roll I posted earlier. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. We asked the manager to come take a look at how the bug had made a home in my roll and landing in our plates. He literally said "sorry" nothing he could do. He did take money off for our drinks. That's why the 2 stars. Don't go!! That is, unless you like dining with bugs.
Our server was particularly nice. We really enjoyed his input and the short conversation we had with him at the table. He made our experience even better than it was, and it was already great.
We were impressed with the staff starting with the hostess and then the server. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The food was absolutely superb with portions that were just enough to satisfy the appetite but not to the point of being stuffed. We will certainly be repeat visitors to the establishment
Who could not love having lunch outside at Longwood Gardens on a beautiful day
Reservation was for Sunday evening prior to attending a show at Longwood. Service was excellent and food was very good. The Filet I ordered was cooked perfectly, but the Broccolini was very undercooked and hard as a rock. My husband ordered the Pork Chop and enjoyed it very much, but the Tabbouleh side dish was a miss for him. The Cream of Mushroom soup is always fabulous and the side salad that I ordered was very good and fresh. When first seated, our server brought fresh bread for each of us in little plant pots. The bread was outstanding! The prices are on the high side which can make it a rather expensive evening out. There is outside seating which would be nice, weather permitting. Overall we really enjoyed the meal even with the few misses.
We had Sunday brunch outside under the trees. The host warned us about annoying bees but none bothered us.
I had poached eggs and smoked salmon with hollandaise sauce over quinoa -- very light and scrumptious. My wife had a veggie omelet that was also outstanding.
I'd love to go back for dinner or a regular lunch.
Expected a lot more from this restaurant. The park is gorgeous and the dining room is very well appointed. Our server was attentive and quite personable however the food was a little underwhelming.
For the good: We started with a cheese plate, which we all enjoyed. Cheese was delicious and the paired nuts and dried fruit complemented well. Some of us ordered Bloody Marys and those were tasty as well.
And now the bad: Three of the six in our party ordered the burger for Sunday brunch. All three mentioned that the meat was dry and flavorless. One person ordered the "fluffy" pancakes and the pancakes were not really fluffy and again, he said that the whole dish was bland. Another ordered the biscuits and gravy, she was not pleased with the huge chunks of meat in the gravy. I had the summer salad and mushroom soup. The dressing was light but I wished they had more of their heirloom vegetables that they so proudly displayed. My soup was ok, I frankly have had better mushroom soup from a pub in Kenneth square. For dessert we couldn't resist ordering the flowerpot. It was beautiful. Looked exactly like a flower pot. The whole dessert was just bland. The mousse needed more sugar, the pot was just pure buttercream which needed more sweet, it basically tasted like butter. The best part of the dessert was the "dirt" made of crushed up cookies.
Overall, we expected more from a place touted to be "fine dining."
This was our second visit to 1906 at Longwood. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere delightful. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful. We were well attended. We love to eat at 1906.
absolutely enjoyed the experience, have already had 2 other people use open table for an evening with dinner at 1906 for the fall longwood garden nightscape
Thank You Open table for reminder, had a funeral that same day. Had a lot of travel to both events. If it wasn't for you reminding me of dinner plans I might not of made it. Of course Dinner was wonderful, Our waitress told the chef ,Will Brown that we love his food and he made a special visit to our table so we could thank him for his wonderful cooking. We were very happy to finally meet the man who over the years has impressed us with his skills and food. Once again we had a romantic Anniversary dinner . This is the only place we love .We want to thank everyone in the kitchen and staff. Everyone takes great steps to make sure your taken care of even getting water and our host took pictures for us and lent my husband some reading glasses so he could see menu. It took our mind off a very sad day and made us feel great . I wish you had pictures I could put up, so you could see the food and wonderful people who work there. We will be back in December can't wait, maybe we should just move closer we would be there every week, LindaD
Excellent food and very romantic atmosphere. Waiter was friendly and professional but less experienced than waiters we've had at other high-end restaurants. Overall, the experience was very good.
Food was delicious except for the peach donuts made with not-ripe peaches. Service was good, didn't stand out on the good or bad side. The vibe in the place is not good. Lighting was too bright and music was pretty much non existent. If you're at Longwood and need chow, it's good. Definitely not a destination to seek out though.
We ate out on the deck and it was just right. The dining room tends to feel crowded and a little loud for our tastes. The service was wonderful!
Very good meal while visiting beautiful Longwood Gardens.
Always an enjoyable meal; they use locally sources food, much comes from the gardens. A nice seasonal variety.
My husband and I have eaten at 1906 a number of times and have never been disappointed. Last Thurday was no exception. It was the first time our friends had eaten there. They LOVED it.
My choice of entree was excellent. We have been there numerous times and always enjoy dining there. The only thing we would have liked to see is a more diverse dessert menu. This time the focus was on ice cream with no options for cheese cake or other cake. Otherwise really a very nice menu with very good quality food as well as nice atmosphere and attentive staff. Thank you.
Best restaurant in the Brandywine Valley ....never a disappointment and most recent meal of veal chop w/lump crab was fabulous...never wanted it to end!!!
This was my first visit to Longwood Gardens for Nightscape. I was there with a very special person and I wanted it to be a memorable evening. 1906 made it that. The food and ambience were wonderful. I highly recommend it.
As usual, great food. Appreciated waiter letting us take our time (we took a lot of time) and his friendly attitude.
The crab cakes were the best I have ever had, and Lorie did a great job serving us - as always!
Have been many times and it is always enjoyable and the Mushroom Soup is invariably the highpoint of the meal.
Went with light selections on a holiday visit to Longwood Gardens. The experience will always be memorable as the little glass vase was knocked over, and water came spilling over the table. Fortunately, I escaped. The cheese platter was nice, but I was surprised that only dried fruit was part of the offering. The watermelon gzapacho was something that I would not repeat, just left something to be desired -- perhaps it was TOO pureed with only a little bit of crunch. The shrimp appetizer was very good.
Great place, great food, great staff, wonderful experience, a bit too pricey.
The menu was small but offered a fair range choices: beef, poultry, fish, veggie.
I started with the cold watermelon soup garnished mint and feta cheese. It was light and refreshing with the feta adding a savory note. As an entree I had the filet which was absolute perfection! For dessert I had fresh peach donuts. The peaches are pitted at time of order, coated in a funnel cake batter and deep fried and served with ice cream. Very good.
Service was efficiently friendly. Overall it was a 5 star dining experience.
The featured fish was overcooked, and everything is expensive. the waitress was excellent.
Love this restaurant. Never disappointed. Best mushroom soup ever. Fresh brioch is to die for.
Waited 30 minutes beyond our reservation time. Server was prompt, friendly, efficient. Food size was just right, not overwhelming. The shell food in my Seafood Nage were rather tiny and overcooked. The broth was excellent.
Staff was awful. Host/Hostess unprofessional. Waiter came to our table and just stared at us for a little while until my husband said hello. He was very odd. Food was ok. Not the best not the worst. I would not recommend for the price. Go to the cafe right next door.
I had very high expectations for our dining experience and although the service and atmosphere were excellent, we were disappointed with the food. My nage was lukewarm, my husband's trout was dry and no one raved about their dinner( 6 of us in the party)
However, I would be willing to give this another try...
Delightful place to have lunch or dinner with a special friend in a relaxing charming setting.
It's an amazing experience! Loved every minute of it
We've been to 1906 many times as well as Longwood Gardens. The menu is always unique and very tasty. I love the winter menu where the chef uses grits to enhance the main course. Presentation and flavor are 5 star.
Our wait staff was outstanding. Natalie took excellent care of us from the time we got to our table til we left to view the Nightscape exhibit. The staff is very friendly and the food, a memorable experience. We highly recommend this restaurant. Ask to sit in Natalie's section, she is the best!!!
My wife and I ate here last Friday night. The food, drinks, service, etc. were all "good", but for $140 as was expecting "great"...
Very, very expensive! I have never seen $41 crab cakes! And this is after paying to get into LG. We've eaten at 1906 a few times, but probably will not eat there again. We took friends and we were embarrassed by the prices.
