I am a regular diner at 1906 and last Sunday's lunch was dispicable and even worse was I complained to the manager and nothing was done about it. That says alot about the restaurant especially the calaber of 1906. In all the many years of going there only once did my guest and I have an issue...the stem of her wine class broke in her hand and the restaurant, of course didn't charge for our drinks but gave us a dessert on the house. This Sunday was a debackle from the start. The patio was very emplty at the time. No came to our table for 10 minutes until I got the hostess's attention when she was seating another table. The waiter was a mess from that point. Our waters, our bread took so long the other table seated 10 minutes afer us was already served their meals. My bread was ice cold etc etc etc. I could go on and on. All I can say is I will never go back again. Especially at 1906 price point and being treated so terribly even after telling a manager.
This is an incredible restaurant! Everything from the bread and butter to the desserts are above delicious, with fabulous presentation. And the portions are appropriate. You can have apps to dessert and feel satisfied, not stuffed!
Knowledgeable wait staff. Helpful and professional. Excellent menu variety. Meals were all delicious. Entire party agreed.
The 1906 used to be a wonderful place to bring the family. Now, it has adopted a "past, present and future" menu. The variety is gone, and the food is poorly prepared. Our salmon had a thick, oily skin. And the few "future" options offered a carrot entree that was high on concept and low on flavor. Very disappointing. The 1906 should get away from "high concept," which doesn't match its clientele, and offer fine foods, nicely prepared. Leave the high concept ideas to culinary school. Who cares about the concept! It should be about enjoyable food, nicely prepared. So few selections. We won't be back until the menu -- or the chef -- is changed.
The evening was wonderful and the restaurant 1906 was a wonderful dining experience Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable All of her suggestions were taken from wine selection to entree selection and dessert she made all 4 of us feel welcome. The food was beyond spectacular Four different entrees which we all shared. I would absolutely recommend 1906 as a fine dining experience. Not to be missed
Our waitress, Natalie, as always, was superb. We appreciate the excellent service she gave us.
Excellent quality dining! We’ve been there twice now and have tasted a variety of dishes including the incredible onion tart, maritake mushroom bloom, cauliflower steak, duck, chocolate flower pot, and pumpkin cheesecake. It is pricey, but they serve gourmet delicacies in such a unique presentation that you won’t be disappointed.
A fine experience with good food, wonderful service in a comfortable setting.
Very creative presentation and playing. Bread was baked and served in clay plant pots and dessert was quite original. Both desserts were dressed in a garden theme with edible flowers. Entrees were perfectly prepared. Server was friendly and attentive, and added to the upscale dining experience. Very good, would recommend and will go again.
Everything was great. The venison was a delicious unexpected surprise.. The apple crisp was perfect. A great dinner.
Food, presentation, attentiveness, friendliness of staff all factored into making a memorable visit for out of state guests after viewing the outstanding bamboo exhibit. Intriguing looking dishes that we observed passing by us forced to ask server what was being served. A pumpkin cheesecake being served in the shape of a pumpkin looked like a knock-out! My onion tart was tasty with plenty of onions and a nice, not too thick crust. One of my friends enjoyed her perfectly cooked pork chop with what looked like baby brussel sprouts and black lentils.
Special evening with my daughter . Perfect!
Everyone in my party loved their meal. The service was great. Very friendly server!!
Enjoyed the enclosed patio for a perfect place to lunch with friends. Food was delicious. The chocolate potted cake dessert was beautiful and perfect ending to lunch! Quiet atmosphere allowed for easily heard conversation.
Some of the best deserts I've ever had!
- Cholocate Flower Pot (mousse, coffee ganache, chocolate cake, buttercream, lavender ice cream - $16). Everything could be consumed - a pot, "soil" and flowers!
- Gelatto (pomegranate champagne, apple cider, blood orange - $12) was, in my personal rating:
#1 pomegranate champagne
#2 apple cider
#3 blood orange
Lunch with a good friend was very disappointing and very expensive!! $68 including tip per person for soup, entree, and 2 drinks each. To make matters worse, the food was not good. The cream of mushroom soup had very good flavor and lots of mushrooms but the base was very thick and left a film on the tongue like there was too much thickener. The Autumn Gnocchi was ok with the sauce, pistachios, beets and butternut squash but the gnocchi were not potato gnocchi as stated on the menu. They had a chewy texture and no flavor like they started out dry from a box! The 1906 cocktail with champagne and chambord was good. The highlight of the meal was the warm roll baked in a terra-cotta pot!! Delicious!! Definitely not what I would expect from a $70 meal. Will definitely not return!!
Very noisy at 6:30 PM on October 6, Saturday night, one of the last colored light displays ( at 8:30 PM).
I thought of scheduling at 7:00 PM in future to avoid noise, only to find out that it isn't possible. Noise abated by about 7:30 PM when place began to clear out.
I regret the re-engineering with a lot of crowded small tables-for-two on both sides of a long banquette, similar to New York City, but realize that this may be a response to increasing popularity. When we began attending 1906, about 2011, tables were quiet and far apart, very nice for an older clientele like us. Maybe improved soundproofing of some sort. Also we initially were offered a small table (for two) alongside the divider, which I rejected. We then got the end table on the banquette, marginally better.
Food is good but not outstanding. The beet salad was a disappointment, onion tart very salty (too much feta or feta too salty.) You ran out of popular apple and quince tart; we declined to order anything else. My friend, from adjacent Kendal, always enjoys your Big Beef dish, in this case the filet mignon, so she liked that.
Your signature rolls were very good, slightly sweet like dinner rolls. I think that you have a new recipe. They are now excellent.
We continue to believe that this is one of the best kept secrets and it's time to tell everyone about the fantastic meals being created by Chef Alex Neaton at 1906 at Longwood Gardens. Once you meet him and see the passion that he has for his job and how important it is to him that you enjoyed your meal, you will go back again and again to experience incredible food that changes frequently to accommodate his talent for creating new experiences for your palate.
We really enjoyed our evening at 1906. The food and service was excellent. Seating was a little tight but luckily the other patrons were very pleasant.
Our visit was wonderful! From the moment we arrived the staff was friendly and courteous. Two of us had the pork chop and one had the crab cakes. Our meals were outstanding! Our waitress was happy to substitute potatoes or green beans in place of the brussel sprouts (not my favorite veggie). The desserts looked delicious but our stomachs had no room (we took about half of our dinners home even). Our reservation was for 6pm. We were able to eat leisurely and make it to the 8:15 Illuminated Fountain Performance easily. What a great evening!!!
Wonderful food! Excellent service Thank you Dustin! This is an excellent restaurant We will definitely be back
Food interesting, good but small portions for price. Fair ambiance in restaurant itself.
We were excited about the new menu. As always shared a bowl of the world renown mushroom soup, fabulous. I tried the cauliflower steak with barely and truffles, it was a little lite on the seasoning, and could have used a little something for flavor. My friend enjoyed the salmon.
The food was excellent. It was a particular pleasure to be able to converse with friends in an uncrowded, quiet environment as a break in our tour
Our server was outstanding and the kitchen/chef was accommodating. We both had vegetarian meals and they were delicious.
Impecable service, a bit of delay in delivery, which we put to a special event at the Garden (Fireworks/Fountain evening). I had the grilled cauliflower steak (for vegetarians - tasty, different way to eat cauliflower), she had the pork chop (I got a nibble, it was excellent!) Dessert was the topper - peach mousse for her (very tasty) and the “Flowerpot” for me, which could have been shared (tooo much for me, but I managed). Overall, an excellent complement to an afternoon/day exploring a favorite garden site.
Wonderful food and service
Wonderful dinner and service. Seated immediately outside as I requested. Attentive server and amazing food. Will definitely visit again.
The only venue for sit-down, reserved dinner. Food was great, venue was busy and prices are moderate with good food. I would return.
Wonderful experience. Wine, the haddock special , the wait staff all outstanding.
Impressive food, elegantly presented
Impressive service, perfectly timed
Impressive setting, the WOW of Longwood
Great weather great environment good food and great service. All the ingredients for a wonderful memory
Very expensive for lunch and menu too limited. Liked it before when menu was simpler and you could order a sandwich for lunch. Would recommend for the ambiance and the soup.
This place is awesome! Yes, it is a little pricey but the food is awesome and so is the service. The outdoor deck is just a lovely spot, surrounded by woods. Crabcakes are great with not a single piece of shell. Fried green tomatoes, also very crunchy and good. And the popsicles for dessert - amazing. They were a bit melty because we were outside and it was a warm day, but really really good. Husband had the port chop and loved it. We come a couple times a year for special occasions, and it is well worth the hour plus drive.
It was fantastic the waitress was great and gave us great recommendations
All around it was excellent. Food was delicious and beautifuly arranged.
We ate on the patio and the service was excellent. The setting was lovely for lunch. The menu is a little limited and odd, but everyone found something that appealed and the food was great. We all had a wonderful meal.
The wine is very overpriced for the quality.- only detractor.
Dining at 1906 is always a treat. The current summer menu has so many wonderful options. Our group of five enjoyed a bottle of rose, a few other mixed drinks, cauliflower steaks, sea scallops, fried oyster and chicken salad and the special crab omelette. Everything was delicious. The dining area is comfortable and relaxed. Staff are very knowledgeable and can offer drink pairs or meal suggestions.
Excellent!! We really enjoyed our meal from start to finish!
Fabulous experience! The food was outstanding. The service was impeccable. What a great way to end the day at Longwood Gardens.
