Excellent food and service. Of the 6 at the table, 50 percent were vegetarians and we were all happy with the hearty options. My only recommendation would be to offer better dessert options.

When we arrived at 7:45 PM, place was completely empty. We were taking our friends visiting from UK to 1905 for dinner and it was so awkward that this place was deserted. We first decided to order few drinks and then go to some place else but as we ordered drinks and apps, people started walking in and food was good so decided to continue with our dinner. While food is very good but I find it overpriced for the ambiance and setting itself. Ordered shrimp n grits, tuna, chicken and grains in entree and all of them were good,m but can't justify paying 100 bucks for 4 of them.

Food was below average. The caviar and tater tots were a disappointment. The pork belly appetizer was decent but rubbery. Brazed short rib was over cooked and very dry. Ordered a vodka and soda and was not pleased to find they sent out a gin and soda. I ended up drinking it because the waitress took too long to come back. Overall, much better places to eat and drink in the U Street corridor.

What a wonderful surprise. We were visiting DC and chose 1905 for restaurant week. When we pulled up in our Uber we were a little concerned from the appearance of the outside. Inside we were pleasantly surprised and the roof top deck was awesome. Food and service were a 10. Small menu but diverse. Short ribs were amazing. Will definitely return on our next trip to DC.

For Restaurant Week, order 1 appetizer and 1 entrée from the regular menu, plus 1 dessert from a rotating list.
All of the food we ate was outstanding, and so were the craft cocktails.
Definitely worth a return visit!

Checked out 1905 for Restaurant Week and left feeling satisfied with the food and feel of this place. They were gracious with the two appetizers we ordered: big servings of Black Eyed Pea Hummus and Caviar and Tator Tots. However, the Shrimp and Grits left the greatest impression on me--it tasted more Charleston than D.C. Honestly, the menu at 1905 takes the mainstays of American food (ribs, burgers, BBQ, and fries) and elevates them with sides and flavors that are somehow both comforting and complex. Delicious!

Made a reservation for dinner. When we got there we were told we could sit upstairs on the outside patio if we preferred. We were not told at all, however, that the upstairs dining area was more so a bar that you could order food at and not like the sit down and eat set up on the regular dining floor. We went upstairs and waited for about 5-10 minutes for menus, realizing that we had to go to the bar to order. The bartender seemed uninterested in helping us with menu questions. Additionally, we were not told that the cocktails served at the regular dining level were not offered upstairs. If I had been told that we would not be waited on nor would the same offerings be included upstairs, we would have dined on the main floor. Additionally, the food was fairly average. We ordered a tater tots with caviar dish. I was not shocked to see what was clearly imitation caviar, but the "caviar" was served in a tiny portion on the tip of a spoon separate from the tater tots. Most of the small portion of caviar ended up spilling instead of making it onto the tots. Additionally, the tots were very plain, tasting like dry, overcooked Ore Ida frozen tater tots. The other dishes we ordered were average, but I was again disappointed that we had to take care of ourselves essentially, and that the cocktail menu was not offered at the upstairs bar. The rooftop is nice so I may return for a drink sometime, but I doubt I will come back to eat here.

So my friends and I found this place via yelp. The look of the bistro/bar from the street seemed a little sketchy, but once we walked up the stairs, we discovered a nice eclectic space. Everything on the menu looked great. We started with the Xavier and Tater Tots (yummy). The star of the menu was the truffle grits and pork belly! Plus, they offer $16 bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Mary's. Next time I am in DC, I will be back.
