1899 Bar & Grill
Service was fine. Server was pleasant. Food was Sodexo. Not very good as I expected. Sodexo is mediocre food quality - think college dining halls, airports, etc. So what do you expect? Unless the kitchen can 'do something' creative with the basics provided by Sodexo, it's not very good. Would not return here again for a meal. Menu is limited as well. Blah.....
Not the same as in the past. Was a bit disappointed with the step-down menu and reductions, but understand the need. Food was good, but not amazing. My steak was not "medium rare" and potatoes were cold and lumpy. Raspberry sorbet was grainy and almost not edible. My server was quite wonderful, however, and the bar service was also very good. Overall, we had a nice dinner and enjoyed ourselves.
We ended up eating there and entertaining there everyday of our day stay and brought friends
It was OK, it felt like a college serviced restaurant. Food was ok, not bad. Service was fine. Value wasn’t bad. Just too many other food options in town. Wouldn’t return. Went on Easter Sunday and they didn’t do anything for the Holiday. Thought that was weird.
If you would order an appetizer animaine be prepared that they will all come out at the same time. When is the manager he said that is their policy I said it's not a new menu in the server didn't tell us I would not accept the appetizer. The food was Bland and no taste
The food was excellent! Everything was fresh and delicious! Service was great! Everything was wonderful!!
The new menu is not nearly as good as the old one!!
Everything was amazing. We came earlier than expected (sorry!) but the staff didn’t flinch. They sat us, kept us updated on everything, and when we got our food it was prompt AND incredibly delicious. We were blown away by the meal and the service. Best experience ever.
Pretty empty for a 7:30 reservation. Service was odd as our salads arrived with our meal. Food was ok but not special in any way.
Great service from Myrya! Loved the Gouda Mac! A bit pricey but overall great experience. I would recommend
Went out to dinner with my boyfriend, this is a great place. The people are very welcoming and the environment is somewhat classy, I guess its not a "typical" bar and grill. The food is alright but it is not bad, there could be many improvements with the desert as well, and the food selection is very limited (entrees, appetizers, beverages).
Food was great. Service prompt and friendly. Very bright nicely decorated restaurant. True Hospitality professional.
Had a reservation, called multiple times throughout the day to confirm reservation and no call back, restaurant closed and no one could even notify people with reservations. So glad our anniversary dinner was ruined because of the lack of communication.
We had our dinners on a somewhat tight schedule as we were going to be attending the symphony concert at 7:30. Our waiter was helpful, considerate and very nice. We both had the fillet dinners and they were excellent further I would say second to none in Flagstaff. I would be very much inclined to dine with 1899 again.
Great option for Valentines Day. The only thing I would change would be the lighting. A bit too bright.
I had the filet. Service was very good and the food was as well. Local beers on tap. I would go back.
It was a real disappointment. I’ve dined here before and enjoyed my meal. However, this was valentines night and it was a much different experience. First off, I don’t mind paying for good food but if the meal is poor dropping a hundred is like a sucker punch. We ordered the vday surf and turf. It was bad. Specifically, the steaks were under cooked on both our entrees. They were also super tough. They just seemed like cheap cuts of beef. The fact that this was where I’d chosen to bring my fiancé for Vday made it worse. You get one day per year to impress your love and it was a letdown. We could’ve sent the food back but after trying it, I was concerned it would only get tougher to chew. I could say more but the main point is I made reservations and it was bad. Bad table location, poorly cooked steaks, extremely chewy steaks, and slow service. I would not recommend 1899.
I met my friend at the 1899 Bar & Grill to celebrate her 70th birthday for dinner. It was the first time either of us have been there, & we were very impressed at how beautiful it was. We both chose the salmon which was delicious, & we both agreed that the creme brûlée we had for dessert was the best we’ve ever had. The wait staff were all friendly, & our experience from the moment we arrived, until we left, was a very enjoyable evening. My friend & I will definitely return, & would recommend the 1899 Bar & Grill to our friends.
Our waitress, Adrianna, was super great! She was funny and very accommodating :)
Nice place, parking sucks, guide patrons to top floor of garage cause thats where you end up.
We were visiting NAU and this place was suggested for dinner. We had excellent food, drinks and the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. He filled out water 3 times and waited for us to decide our meal choice. He also suggested the sorbet dessert based on my gluten free diet. It was excellent.
We recommend you try it!
This restaurant is a collabatoration between Northern Arizona University and it's food purveyor. It is an excellent restaurant, far better than most campus-based restaurants. The menu is imaginative and the food well prepared. The setting is wood-paneled and relaxing. But above all, these service is excellent and attentive. In its way it is a hidden gem.
It was a wonderful experience. Our waitress was so joyful and attentive to everything!!
Great restaurant and very good food. Sometimes service lacks because it is a training restaurant for the university but definitely a very good experience.
Love the atomospher and food was good as well. Would definitely recommend and will revisit when in town again.
The food was amazing! And my waitress was great! I would recommend and will return!
We haven't been to that venue since our 1960s college days at NAU when the area was our student union. We found the repurposing of the space to be well done. The service was anything we would expect (very good) and the food was well prepared and presentation was nice. The desert was decadent and beautiful in appearance. And the taste!!!
Loved this bar!! Every employee went out of their way to be welcoming and the liquor selection was outstanding! They even had our favorite small batch bourbon on their shelf. Could have spent all day there...if our legs were hollow 😉. Ambience in this old saloon was exceptional...and so well preserved!
I've been to 1899 for dinner several times and I cannot say enough good things. The food is great, the service is friendly, and it's classy enough for a formal/romantic dinner, but casual enough for an everyday gathering.
Although the service was great and the environment was nice, the food just simply wasn't worth the price. I ordered the filet and it came with green beans and mashed potatoes. The only thing that had really good flavor was the potatoes. The steak, lacking in flavor, even could have done better with just some more salt and pepper.
I also ordered the Velveteen for dessert, which is a red velvet-chocolate moose dessert. That I enjoyed. The cake was very moist, and the chocolate shavings on top were a nice touch.
Overall, I liked some things and not others. I will only go back to spend dining dollars.
Not what it seems, more Friday’s than steakhouse. Illuminated by a thousand lightbulbs and cheap decor. We walked out.
We live about 20 miles away in the summer and love to visit for some special occasion once or twice a year. We come with another couple - we've been doing this for many years and have never been disappointed. The menu changes a bit every year. This is good - we don't get into a rut.
Our server was wonderful and ensured we had everything we needed. We took advantage of the happy hour which ran until 6pm on Friday night and couldn’t have been happier that we did. Nice selection of draft beers on tap. The wings were amazing!!! I’ve had wings in MO, TX, CA, AZ, VA, MD, NY, CO, and probably a few other states, and these are some of the best I have ever had. Nice and crisp on the outside, juicy throughout and a delightful sauce with a nice subtle kick. We’d also recommend the Cesar salad. The dressing is amazingly fresh and tastes housemade. However; we recommend asking they go light on the dressing as they were a little generous with it. We will be back that way next month and will definitely be back at 1899.
The $30.00 ribeye was a huge mistake. Thin and looked like a meat patty with no marbling. The salmon and the grouper were very good. The service was friendly and professional - although prior to even finishing our meal we were asked if we wanted dessert. We said no and the check was presented. No inquiry if we wanted coffee after our meal. No one cleared dishes after each course without asking someone to please remove them. We are local and most likely won’t return. Prices do not match the service and food.
We had to eat in winter coats buttoned up because it was FREEZING in the restaurant. Very poor acoustics made it very noisy in there, despite the lack of guests that evening. I can't imagine what it would sound like with a full house. Food was good, but not exceptional. Waiter was very good. Live evening entertainment was a nice touch.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at 1899 and the service was simply outstanding! Our waiter was very polite and attentive. The food was also very, very good! The atmosphere was cozy and warm I WILL be back!
Very poor wine selections. Good food and pleasent staff.
We were there for parents weekend on the patio. Cold and rainy but the fire and heaters made the experience comfortable. The burgers were amazing and the chicken bowl was also great. Hands down the best part was dessert. Had four different desserts and all would have been repeated. Fresh and home made with excellent chocolate. Worth stopping buy just for dessert.
We went to 1899 to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. Our waitress, Macey, was wonderful, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was quiet and casually elegant.
