1890 at the Arcade Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant and bar was empty at 12:30 p.m. when I arrived. The person I was meeting was sitting outside the entrance to the restaurant and told me she wasn't sure it was open---she had walked in and didn't see any diners or staff, so she waited for me outside. We walked in together all the way to the back of the restaurant where we saw the only table in the restaurant with customers. We still could not find any wait staff. Finally, someone came out of the kitchen, noticed us and seated us just as we were about to go elsewhere.
The person who finally took care of us was very good and very polite. But at 12:30 on a work day, 1890 was a ghost town. It was sad to see, really, given Cleveland's otherwise vibrant dining scene. At least you could have a conversation in the dead silence.
The 1890 @ The Arcade was an Excellent Choice for our Mother's Day Brunch Celebration. Ryan our Server was overwhelmingly accommodating . The Food had a Great Diverse Menu, was kept warm, thus, very delicious. And the Atmosphere of the Arcade's stunning glass ceiling was exhilarating . The whole family thoroughly enjoyed the Brunch and the very engaging 1890 Staff, especially Ryan!
We very much enjoyed the Mother's Day brunch! The setting was beautiful in the arcade and the food was delicious with so many choices. All members of the staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and we appreciated the extra attention given to my elderly mother. The roses for each of us mothers were also a nice touch - thank you!
We were at the mothers day buffet. This was served in the main hallway. Everything was very good. Food and service were excellent. None of us had any complaints about the food or service. My only complaint was the price. I knew the price going in and the experience was awesome but at 44$ for adult brinch and 15$ for the kids we were at $ 128 for 4 people for brinch before tip. As good as it was we would not go back just because of the price. In my opinion adults should be around 30$ and kids at 10$
The Easter brunch is set up right in the arcade. The breathtaking view was worth the price alone. The arcade is a must see and eating Easter brunch while admiring the architecture was amazing. The food selection was diverse and everything was very good. We went late so some things were cold, but that was our own fault. The service was excellent and we will definitely go back earlier next year.
The entrees and salads were very good. Nice presentation and good value. My dessert was a bit dry but the rest of the group liked theirs. However the drinks were very costly. My husband ordered a Manhattan and when the bill came the cost of that one drink was $14.50. It was weak tasting, watered down. Been drinking for 4 decades and never have paid that much for a drink. Very disappointed in their bar service.
We loved the atmosphere and the service. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. They just need to work on the food. I had the scallops and my husband had the steak. Both were disappointing. The tomato bisque was very flavorful. I also really liked the seasonal sorbet, raspberry champagne. The fruit on top was juicy and sweet. It just would have been nice if the scallops hadn't been so rubbery and I would have preferred there to be a crispy top sear. The steak was thin, the flavor was average and there was too much gristle. The plating was visually nice. Just the taste was lacking. We went for Restaurant Week to see the 1890 menu. It looked appealing but was disappointing. The price was fine if the food had been better we would have felt it was a good value. We really liked walking around the Arcade after dinner. The historical area is wonderful. Just fix the quality of the food and you will have a winner.
Reviewed menus for restaurant week and I felt 1890 had the best. Scallops, steak & pork for their 3 choices. Large wedge salad w/chicken, outré, & 4 desserts to choose from. Food was outstanding, as was our waitress & manager visits to check on us. We went early to walk thru the arcade and stop in a few shops. A real proud gem of Cleveland!
Our reservation was at 6:15pm and sat immediately. The service was so poor, it took FOREVER for the waitress to come take our drink order. We weren't served our first couse until 7:15pm!! We had a concert at the Q Arena at 8pm and needed our main course and dessert still. The waitress had to ask twice what we had ordered, which was the steak and then a manager had to come over to triple check that it was indeed the steak and at what temp. The steaks all came out at 7:30pm with one of the orders with the wrong side. We mentioned that we wanted our desserts to go since it was taking much too long and we inhaled our subpar dinners. We literally took our desserts in Togo boxes with plastic forks and ate them as we hussled to get to the Q. The whole experience took twice as long as it should've and it wasn't even worth it. For that service and taste of food, we over paid exponentially! I wouldn't go back unless I had 5 hours to kill and didn't care about wasting good money on subpar food.
My sister and I had a pre-Browns game brunch to celebrate her birthday. The service was wonderful and the food was terrific. Because I mentioned that I'd like a little cupcake or something with a candle in it for her birthday, they brought out a slice of cheesecake surrounded by fruit and a candle. She loved it! A great time catching up, and plenty of time to make it over to the stadium so we were in our seats for the kickoff.
Horrible experience. Terrible waiter who repeatedly told us it was his fourth day on the job. Totally destroyed our order. Completely forgot to bring salad course and not one entree out of five orders was even remotely as ordered. Chicken instead of fish, potatoes instead spinach, etc, etc. We ended up eating whatever he brought rather than go through the pain and anguish of waiting & hoping he might get it right the next time.
Brought my mom here for a Mother's Day brunch and 1890 did a great job. The food was excellent, especially the dessert area and the smoked salmon! There was certainly no lack of options. Also had a make-your-own-cocktail bar that showed Mom her first Bloody Mary. The location inside the Arcade also showcases a beautiful aspect of Cleveland's history.
The food was average. The best part was the omelette station and the cheese platter. The roast beef was too overcooked and the other breakfast food was just satisfactory. I felt it was way over priced for what we received. The service was also just average and I felt that the included tip was too much for the service we received, being a waitress in my past years I generally over tip, this time I would not have given this much. The ambiance was beautiful and I loved sitting outside the restaurant in the mall, that was the best part.
We love coming here for brunch every year. The Restaurant is within the beautiful, historic Arcade downtown. The food is delicious and the service is amazing! The mothers in our family love it every year. The only downside is parking. The hotel only offers a very expensive valet service. The secret is to use the parking garage directly next door to the entrance. Parking is only $5. :)
Food quality exceeded expectations. For example, the nachos I ordered with shredded chicken were awesome. Chips tasted freshly fried, but not greasy at all. Chicken was perfectly seasoned. Just the right portion size for lunch. Right amount of toppings that allowed me to pick up the chips and enjoy as opposed to being a sloppy, soggy mess. Sour cream and salsa verde on the side was a smart presentation. Everyone else in my party was equally happy with their meals. But, the service was slooow. It took way too long for a business lunch. That was frustrating considering how uncrowded the restaurant was. Great place to dine if you have time.
Hardly anyone there at lunchtime. Food is good but overpriced. It's a hotel restaurant. Service was good. Good place to have a quiet lunch with someone you want to have an intimate conversation. Menu selection is also good. Nothing I didn't like about the place but there are other places that are outstanding for about the same money.
I proposed on top of stairs in the Arcade, under the ambiance of the historical architecture. Being inspired by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. The 1890 structure represented our heritage and couldn't have been more perfect of a back drop for our special day. The Restraunt was more then accommodating, we had a private wine room to ourselves to celebrate and embrace our commitment together. The staff was very attentive to our experience and didn't fall short on friendliness or services. We had brunch which was actually more desirable than anticipated. Everything was cooked and plated appropriately. We enjoyed few drinks also which were also up to standard. I would recommend brunch there and to take in the history of the Italian inspired structure of the Arcade.
Visited the restaurant for their Valentine's Day special menu. The food was excellent. We had spinach salads, filet, and sea bass along with dessert. Food was hot and fresh. The bar had a livlier atmosphere than the restaurant but the restaurant was very clean and nicely decorated. Overall it was a positive experience.
My wife and I went to the 1890 for lunch on our anniversary because we had our wedding reception in the Arcade. We were the only two in the restaurant, which was wonderful, but I cannot imagine is a regular occurrence. The Arcade provides a fantastic view, which we enjoyed throughout the meal. The food was good, but nothing spectacular, and I felt that the prices were reasonable.
Attended conference and wanted place other than frequented by usual attendees. Brought customers and was very pleased with food, service and ambiance. Noise level was low enough that one could hold conversation without shouting. Definitely recommend and will use in the future.
It's been a long time since I was at the arcade. It is a beautiful spot. Great service. Knowledgeable waitress. The brunch food selection was very nice. Gluten free bread option, which was delicious.
We were headed to a matinee at the Palace and ease of movement there from this locale was great. There is valet parking but we used the garage next door for $5.
It is definitely worth the stop. I will definitely return to sample a lunch and dinner menu.
Made reservations for a group of 6 for a mother's day brunch. There was no wait for tables nor lines the food. Matter of fact, the staff will deliver your made-to-order omelet direct to your table, no need to wait around idly. And these omelets were made from fresh brown eggs not a mystery yellow liquid.
All of the food was fantastic, from the salmon and carved roast to the french toast and chocolate mousse. Plus the scenery was perfect for a family brunch! Great picture opportunities with the family inside the Arcade after a fantastic meal. NOTE: If going for brunch on a Sunday, Park in the lot next door on Superior for $5 and skipped the $18 valet.
