The blackened cod was delicious but it really didn't go with the winter vegetables. Sprouts and squash etc are too heavy for such a delicate flavoured dish.
Also the background music wasn't background music at all so tinny sounding, loud and annoying which ruined our whole experience.

We almost didn't come back but we did last night and the whole experience was totally different. Fabulous steak and delicious food, attentive friendly waiter Geoff.
Quieter ambient music so if you send a questionnaire we would award 5 stars for everything!

This is the second meal I've had at 1888 in the past 18 months (Summer/Winter visits to Banff). We had the same excellent server both visits; staff are knowledgeable and extremely competent. The meal was overall better the first time. While the majority of our meal was very good, my wife and I split a Caesar salad, which turned out to be like four bites each. In other words, had they added both halves together I think it would have been a half order. This felt cheap when considered against the cost of the meal and wine and champagne our table of four ordered. Not a huge deal, but it was definitely out of character compared to the first visit and bothered me enough to write about it.

This restaurant came highly recommended but fell a bit flat. Our server was not up to what I woukd expect in a high end steak restaurant such as this. She was not very flexible (trying to work around a picky child eater) and was hard to find when you needed something. And my filet steak was terrible. It was dry and had a very strange flavor - i should have sent it back but was too tired to wait for another one. Our server never asked if everything was ok with it either - i only ate one bite. My husbands steak (the ribeye) was very good though. Sides were just eh nothing special. There must be better places in Banff for a steak. The only plus to this restaurant was convenience as it was in our hotel.

Our first time eating here and first time staying at banff fairmont. I would recommend this place to anyone. Our server Christopher was great, extremely knowledgeable about the menu and especially the drink menu. The food was amazing and the drinks were too. We went for our anniversary and it was perfect.

We started with champagne perfectly selected by our server, then had an excellent crab cake and average Caesar salad. Then came the Wagyu beef tenderloin and bison tenderloin served with a duck fat butter on top. Both were unbelievably good and cooked to perfection. Some of the best meat we've ever had. Our sides were golden beets, wilted greens, and baked potato, all were good. Finished with an apple pie that was remarkably large but tasted average. We also had perfectly blended cocktails throughout our meal. Overall the whole meal was outstanding; the service and quality of meat is what blew us away the most. Highly recommend!

Although the restaurant is beautiful we were really disappointed by our first and only visit. The service was fine but we waited a long time for our meal ... over an hour between salad and main course. When our steak and baked potato finally came they were both lukewarm....the potato could not melt the little bit of butter I placed on it! I have rarely ever returned anything but I did return my baked potato. I kept my steak because it had taken so long to receive. It was cooked perfectly but barely warm. My second baked potato was slightly warmer but not by much. In the end my meal was courtesied but I didn't come for a free meal , I came for a superb meal which I would have been more than happy to pay for. We will not return.

Overall It was nice.i just wish out waiter would have been a bit more faster.the food and the drinks was fantastic.hiwerever it was overpriced and the I wish the side of the steak was bigger.otherewise everything else was fine.

WOW!! What a fantastic restaurant, the service, the food/ wine everything is beyond what you hope it to be.
The wine list was incredible covering all the bases and then the port and the whiskey and the scotch, heaven on earth for a foody like me.
