Took a co-worker out for a birthday lunch and everything (food, service, atmosphere) was perfect and wonderful as always!
Dinning at the 1886 Cafe & Bakery - Driskill Hotel was a disappointment. There was no hostess present the evening I visited the cafe for dinner and the server was overworked. The server did his best but he needed more assistance. The menu is limited and the food was ok but not great. I would not recommend the cafe for an evening meal.
Restaurant is pretty empty... would have liked more people around.
Scottish waiter is fantastic. The food came up very quickly and as ordered. Great breakfast experience. Works for business meetings.
2 of 3 were seated and when 3rd party arrived the hostess said there was no reso under that name ...even after she asked the first 2 who was “Jane” so obviously she had the reso down. 3rd party had to wait until we went looking for her. Service was very slow. All 3 of us received the wrong salad but were so hungry we didn’t realize it until later. When we noted it to waiter he responded “What would you like?” Ultimately they gave us a small discount and coffee and 1 dessert was free. Very sad for such a beautiful hotel.
A beautiful location and delicious food. I was a great place to take family from out of town to lunch.
The service was extremely disappointing. The waiter was rude and impatient. He never asked us if we wanted drinks. He got our order wrong too. It was my first time visiting Texas. My boyfriend brought me here for a special date night. We were very disgusted by the end of the meal and would not recommend a friend to visit your restaurant.
The Driskill’s 1886 Cafe & Bakery is always a great spot for a nice meal. We had a wonderful dinner with great service!
Great place for Brunch. The Pecan waffle was delicious. The ambience was very pleasant. Service was a little slow. Would definitely recommend it.
Always a must to stop when I am in town. Wonderful food, great service and a big part of Austin Texas.
Best fried chicken I've had in a long time! Very tender!
Hotel locals for Cafe often lead to disappointments but not here. The Cafe at the Driskill is best of Austin food choices and a great menu. From comfort food to historic Driskill hotel menu items. Not to be missed!
One of the best steak and eggs breakfast I have had. Be sure to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.
Wait for service was way too long even for a special occasion or for not being in a hurry
I love coming to this place for business breakfast meetings. The food is good, the setting is cool and the service is excellent.
A fun, restaurant with some excellent croissant options and a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and brunch menu. Mimosas tasted a bit off, but it could have been the champagne used or quality of orange juice this season. Great place though and highly recommended. The lobby of the hotel and the bar are musts!
I have eaten here several times before and was always pleased. I had a friend visiting from New York and wanted her to experience the Driskill hotel and the great food. I was very disappointed in the lunch. The food, overall, was just not that good. Everything was cold and the sandwiches tasted like they were on day old bread. The waiter was okay but not as friendly and helpful as others in the past. He seemed like he was just doing his job. No personality in it. The noise was like a high school cafeteria. We could hardly hear each other talk at the table for the noise in the kitchen. Very disappointed overall.
In a word, AWESOME! Service and food were impeccable. My first time here, but will not be the last!
Went here for breakfast twice since we were staying at the Driskill hotel. Staff are friendly. Food was good...nothing extraordinary. A chocolate croissant was about $4.50 if I'm not mistaken. There was not wait when we went. It's in the Driskill so the ambiance and location is perfect.
My pork tenderloin was fine, but my girlfriend had the burger and fries. The bun of the burger was stale and the French fries were old.
Cool location, but I would not go back.
We used to love coming here for special occasions for dessert, especially the homemade banana pudding but this time the recipe was not the same. It was mediocre at best, very disappointing as we love this place.
Of course we wanted to experience the famous Driskill hotel and have lunch but it was a sub par experience. The dining room was closed so we were sat in the lobby. The food was good but the service was unfriendly slow and minimal. She literally asked us 3 times for our payment and then stood there while we got out our wallets. Watched 2 different guests be sat at a broken table next to us and told "oh hahaha ya that's been broken for like 3 years sorry we can move you if someone leaves" I felt so bad for the family trying to enjoy a nice lunch. Maybe dinner is better?
Great food, friendly and helpful staff, a beautifully restored historic building. A must-do when in Austin.
You must try the cinnamon roll. It was the best breakfast dessert.
Bread pudding French toast dense and not very flavorful. Pancakes very overcooked. Coffee not very strong. Had to wrangle waitress for water, coffee, additional order, cream, syrup for pancakes, bill, etc. Don't sit near door in cold weather--bad draft. Ambiance lovely.
Our dinner was really good. We plan to go back to try other options on the menu. We grabbed some chocolate croissants to eat for breakfast the next day and those were good as well.
Beautiful historic building dating back to the late 1800s. Casual dining for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good food with yummy foody twists like chili rubbed bacon. At least one vegan option, black bean burger with white bean spread. Best hot fudge sunday i have had in years. Excellent cappuccino. Very comfortable. Good people watching because attached to hotel so you have a mix of visitors and locals.
Great food, great service. Told waiter no nuts in the salad, sever brought a salad with nuts. Waiter corrected it and gave us some complimentary desserts for the mishap.
Went for Valentine's day. The steak was phenomenal and cooked exactly the way I asked. Their seafood plate was also great. I love the feel of the cafe/bakery portion. Also, it is attached to the oldest hotel in Austin - The Driskell. Very luxurious and great live music to enjoy while relaxing and having a drink.
It was my first time experiencing the cafe. The breakfast was delicious and the service was fabulous. The manager came over to greet us and checked to see if everything was okay. I will be back!
This place was really cute, not crowded at all but watered down drinks
I was very pleased with my experience. I made a reservation and it was ready to go when we got there, food was quick getting out and delicious. I definitely want to go back sometime
Great food and service for a right price. Will come again
I picked this for a post-Christmas brunch with my adult children. It was quiet with lots of natural light. Enough menu options to keep everyone happy. I enjoyed the veggie burger- soft cooked with black beans and grains. It is fun to be able to wander around the hotel a bit before & after. Lots of art and history here.
Luscious and rich foods - made accommodations for seating even with a glitch in the opentable system on a holiday night.
We booked Christmas dinner, day-of, as they had their usual menu but also a special Holiday pre-fix. W're glad we made reservations because a few parties without one had a significant wait. None of us got the pre-fix. This is what we ordered, came out to $102.00 for 3 people:
1) Roasted cauliflower with blue cheese dressing (hold the buffalo sauce)
2) Honey glazed fried chicken with mash and asparagus
3) Chicken fried steak with mash and asparagus
4) Goat cheese and strawberry salad with chicken added.
5) 2 beers and 1 glass of wine
6) Hazelnut torte dessert
The fried chicken and mashed potatoes were excellent. The chicken fried steak wasn't bad but wasn't the best we've had either. The roasted cauliflower with blue cheese dressing was simple and delicious. The hazelnut dessert was very sweet but we all enjoyed a couple bites. All together the meal was great and prices affordable.
Cute ambiance and nice walking through the Driskell Hotel lobby. This made for a lovely holiday dinner and we had a great time. We will be back!
Although my meal choice was very good (BLT with turkey), service was good, the menu is limited and seems very casual. I was disappointed in the ambiance - It just felt "cold" - it was only 7:30 PM, yet nearly empty. I expected more from the Driskill.
We had such a good dinner we went back for lunch. Great casual place with excellent food. They need to make more consmon rolls because they were always out of them. 👍😀
