1886 Cafe & Bakery - Driskill Hotel
Great food! Loved the eggs Benedict and the home fries! Very nice Mimosa!
Perfect place to grab a quick brunch. Service was A++ and the pecan Texas shaped waffles were amazing!
Be sure to make reservations. We came for brunch. I had a truly excellent, fresh and flavorful chopped salad made with bacon, lettuce, tomato, HB egg, avocado, pepitas, Cotijo cheese, and a buttermilk dill dressing. My companions had omelettes, which they also enjoyed. Also, the table shared a cinnamon roll which was delicious, and large enough for four people to share.
Greetings and thank you for reviewing your experience at the 1886 Cafe and Bakery. We are delighted you enjoyed the fresh, chopped salad and omelettes and tried one of our legendary cinnamon rolls. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Cheers!
Our waitress seemed unmoved by our presense. Maybe that's typical of Austin.
Service was great, food was superb!!!
Beautiful location, impressive for out off town visitors.
My family and I had a delicious breakfast. We all ordered different meals and my husband only mildly complained that his salad accompanying is avocado toast only was lettuce with nothing mores. My spinach scrambled eggs with goat cheese and house fries excellent!
First, the Driskill hotel was fantastic. 1886 cafe & bakery was great. Service was great and food was even better. We also had the cinnamon roll for dessert, and it did not disappoint. I would highly recommend!
Lovely setting combined with the food made a great dining experience. Our waitress was not engaged and was less than enthused to answer any questions about the menu, others would have received 5 stars across the board.
Took my granddaughters. Was very enjoyable. We had a great meal
Every Christmas for the past 10 years we have gone to the 1886 Bakery with our family and friends for a special treat for Christmas to have lunch. Last year we had the same waiter, Greg. He was not very personable but we thought "oh well he's having a bad day". So this year 2018 we just came from there. Guess what, same waiter, Greg. We asked for extra water in a pitcher as the glasses are extremely small. He rolled his eyes and brought us our pitcher. After that we did not see him again. We had the food manager Mitch as our waiter. He was very personable and took our order. We are all over 65 so we always spit a plate. We were hoping for the fried chicken that they have been famous for forever. Well they did not have it but it was shown on their website menu. A little disappointing but no big deal. We could all tell when we ordered they did not like we were splitting a meal and kept asking if we wanted anything else or something to drink. Very intimidating. At the end of the meal Mitch came back over to talk to us. He is very nice but we all knew what he was referencing his conversation to our splitting a plate. He asked us if we were having a big dinner planned this evening since we shared a plate today. We told him "we always share a plate and once you are our age you will too and understand". Needless to say it really put a downer on our festive yearly occasion. We were planning as usual to take our whole family of 13 there for Christmas eve but have decided to go elsewhere. I truly hope this review helps the management to explain to their employees that a condescending attitude is not productive to a well managed establishment.
Thank you, Glenda and Greg
Very attentive service and fun, tasty food!
Our waiter was excellent !!! Food was great!!! Great experience !! Enjoyed being there with my friends. Will definitely return .
Outstanding as usual. Brought an out of town guess and really enjoyed it!
good food, nice presentation of food, great pastries,
Took my daughter and her bff for graduation from elementary school- they absolutely LOVED it and the staff couldn't have been nicer! They want to make it a tradition!
Was a great tasting, yet hearty breakfast. Ordered the ‘Cowboy’ and it was bigger and better than any breakfast I’ve had before!
Delicious food. The quiche Lorraine with tomato/leek jam was the best ever. It tasted like a soufflé. Our waiter was very attentive. Just wish the noise level wasn’t so high.
Family visit lunch
Lovely cafe in the historic Driskill Hotel. In an earlier incarnation, staff wore 1886 period costumes but not now. Classy food and presentation, calm atmosphere. Coconut cauliflower soup yummy and complex, cheese soup was like eating queso with a spoon. Fresh, tasty salads, generous and nicely garnished sandwiches. Friendly, well-paced service.
Food was not of a quality worthy of the Driskell reputation.
The entire experience was great except for the fact that one of the wait staff (not our servers) was complaining about not being able to clock out on time due to a table staying past her shift.
It was unprofessional and did not need to be expressed out loud in the dining area to be overheard by guests. All three of us in our party overheard her and we each commented quietly amongst ourselves how rude and unprofessional her behavior was.
The food and ambiance is quite good. I felt transported to an earlier century with modern food.
Good service and friendly staff. They made our reservation from 5 to 6 in a second
Took a co-worker out for a birthday lunch and everything (food, service, atmosphere) was perfect and wonderful as always!
Dinning at the 1886 Cafe & Bakery - Driskill Hotel was a disappointment. There was no hostess present the evening I visited the cafe for dinner and the server was overworked. The server did his best but he needed more assistance. The menu is limited and the food was ok but not great. I would not recommend the cafe for an evening meal.
Restaurant is pretty empty... would have liked more people around.
Scottish waiter is fantastic. The food came up very quickly and as ordered. Great breakfast experience. Works for business meetings.
2 of 3 were seated and when 3rd party arrived the hostess said there was no reso under that name ...even after she asked the first 2 who was “Jane” so obviously she had the reso down. 3rd party had to wait until we went looking for her. Service was very slow. All 3 of us received the wrong salad but were so hungry we didn’t realize it until later. When we noted it to waiter he responded “What would you like?” Ultimately they gave us a small discount and coffee and 1 dessert was free. Very sad for such a beautiful hotel.
A beautiful location and delicious food. I was a great place to take family from out of town to lunch.
The service was extremely disappointing. The waiter was rude and impatient. He never asked us if we wanted drinks. He got our order wrong too. It was my first time visiting Texas. My boyfriend brought me here for a special date night. We were very disgusted by the end of the meal and would not recommend a friend to visit your restaurant.
The Driskill’s 1886 Cafe & Bakery is always a great spot for a nice meal. We had a wonderful dinner with great service!
Great place for Brunch. The Pecan waffle was delicious. The ambience was very pleasant. Service was a little slow. Would definitely recommend it.
Always a must to stop when I am in town. Wonderful food, great service and a big part of Austin Texas.
Best fried chicken I've had in a long time! Very tender!
Hotel locals for Cafe often lead to disappointments but not here. The Cafe at the Driskill is best of Austin food choices and a great menu. From comfort food to historic Driskill hotel menu items. Not to be missed!
One of the best steak and eggs breakfast I have had. Be sure to make a reservation to avoid disappointment.
Wait for service was way too long even for a special occasion or for not being in a hurry
I love coming to this place for business breakfast meetings. The food is good, the setting is cool and the service is excellent.
A fun, restaurant with some excellent croissant options and a wonderful breakfast, lunch, and brunch menu. Mimosas tasted a bit off, but it could have been the champagne used or quality of orange juice this season. Great place though and highly recommended. The lobby of the hotel and the bar are musts!
