Welcome to 1865 Wine Cellar. The name 1865 pays tribute to the year Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa was founded. It all began one rainy night in 1865 when farmers, William and Mary Jane Dodge, hosted a group of weary travelers at their humble family farm. Due to the spectacular mountain views, the Dodges soon welcomed more guests to stay with them, and the resort was born. Today, we are proud to carry on the legacy of the Dodge Family through the revitalization of Mountain View Farm and our close partnerships with local farmers and distributors. Nearly all of the ingredients used in the restaurant are sourced locally, which is reflected in our fine dining menu. Once an entree has been designed and crafted, a suggested wine offering is carefully selected from our immense collection to highlight the uniqueness of the dish. As the name suggests, the restaurant itself is located in the resort"s romantic, slate lined wine cellar where diners are surrounded by over over 6,000 bottles.

I got engaged to my girlfriend here (now fiance) and the professionals at The 1865 Wine Cellar were AMAZING!!!!!! I can not thank them enough! Great food, perfect service, and a fair price. Can't beat that.

Well just like to say overly priced for the value and for the amount of food you get. For example the heart of broccoli was one small stem cut in half for 12or 39 with the pairings of wine .
For two people bill including tip was 300$ . To leave there hungry, not my idea of fun .

I was hoping for more knowledge of wine from our server. Also heard loud music which was very annoying. Was told it may have been from game room. The gnocchi was not good. Although the ravioli and steak was amazing. The creme brûlée was the worst I ever had. The server was very kind and bubbly. I am not very pleased. Sorry.

The food was excellent with the perfect portion size. Brittany, our server, did an excellent job. Other than the cool cellar (you warned us), everything was perfect. We would go again.

Concept is great; unique atmosphere. We unfortunately had the worst table in the place-right inside the door which felt more like a pathway. The other tables are set into the wine racks. Food was good, service also good though not extraordinary for the set price/wine matching concept. Missed opportunities such as us we sitting for 10-15 minutes or so with empty wineglasses. We had the unfortunate experience of a family argument at a table of 4 near us which included swearing, stomping in and out and then use of a cell phone on speaker phone. Not what you would expect of a "classy restaurant". Ruined my husband's experience who had front on view of this.

I was quite disappointed with the restaurant. The cellar itself is beautiful. We were warned it would be a bit cold so I wore jacket but was still chilly. I ordered the heart of broccoli, the Hubbard squash soup and the rib-eye steak. The broccoli was fine but not very exciting. The soup was very thick and very sweet and I did not care for it. I love butternut squash soup so was surprised by the texture and sweetness of the Hubbard squash soup. The rib-eye steak was not at all what I was expecting and it did not appeal to me. It was the eye of the rib-eye, sliced with sauce. I found it to be not very flavorful and the presentation left a lot to be desired. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. We had dinner in the Harvest Tavern the next nigh. It was delicious and less than half the price.

Great ambiance, and very good service. Unfortunately, for the price of $70 per person I would expect better quality food, which was mediocre for a tasting menu. For example the “forest floor” dish which was described as “Fresh and preserved vegetables from New Hampshire” was just a plate of sautéed mushrooms. The wine pairings were nice though and a saving grace of the meal.

My expectations were far exceeded dining here. Not only was the food delicious, but the waitress could not have been more pleasant and attentive to even the smallest details - such as wishing my boyfriend a Happy Birthday. I am eagerly awaiting a chance to return.

This restaurant is in the hotel basement. The tables are all sorrounded by wine racks full of excellent domestic and international wines. They also have affordable quality wines.

The waitstaff was awesome but they were handicapped in providing a high level of service because the restaurant shared the chefs, food prepares and bartenders with another restaurant and a pub. They also had to go upstairs to the kitchen and bar and back down with drinks and food.

If they get their act together with additional staff to accommodate what is supposed to be e primer dining experience they would certainly get a much higher grade.

Overall because of service, the prices are too high.

Did not meet my expectations.

I was very disappointed when they brought me to my table turned out to be next to the front door while they were empty tables in nicer locations within the restaurant. I found this to be an absolute foolish and faulty management decision especially considering I made this reservation well over a month ago. I requested a new table and was fortunate that they did allow us to move to a better location. As for the food, some of it was very good, but some of it was to experimental and did not quite make the grade. It is unfortunate because the atmosphere is superb

Disappointed. Service extremely slow and not very attentive. Portions very small. Scallops and farm egg were good starters but the broccoli was tiny and mushroom ravioli very small and not flavorful. We both ordered ribeye and were very surprised we got 3 slices of ribeye roast instead of steaks. Meat tasted good. Grilled romaine served completely dry. Room was so cold we couldn’t stay to enjoy dessert and coffee so we took it to our room. Crime brûlée came as 3 small cubes- very odd. Unique setting but Not worth the money.

Fantastic service. Unbeatable ambiance. Food fell a little short I felt (temperature & my ravioli was slightly undercooked) but I’ll definitely go again...dessert was yummy as was the wine.

Great Experience! Dinner is in the wine cellar, so dress accordingly. Great menu options. Knowledgable wine pairings. Excellent service. It's in the Mountainview resort, which has great scenic views. I definitely recommend it!

A truly lovely space but overpriced for the quality of the food. The server tried to be helpful, offering a taste of the white wine I was considering. After trying it, I asked for a glass but indicated it needed to be chilled at which point she disappeared for ten minutes, perhaps trying to chill the bottle of wine? I ended up asking for an alternate choice which finally arrived after I was done with the appetizer. A bit ironic given that we were in a wine cellar. The food itself was fine but hardly remarkable.

Wonderful setting and incredible service! Thank you for an outstanding dining experience - I can't really call it a meal - it's four courses prepared on site using farm to table. Each course is paired with a wine (which you can switch up). The setting is a, come on - you can do it - a converted wine cellar. The 1850 is a tucked away treasure. Looking forward to coming back.

Very overpriced for portion size and food quality. It’s in a wine cellar so it’s cold, even in the summer. It has a romantic atmosphere. Service was average. For the price the service should be superior. It is very quite.

This restaurant has great potential in that the ambiance - a wine cellar, fairly dark, quiet, nice music is very romantic and relaxing; and the chef seems very creative. However, it's very cold (again, a wine cellar) - temperature in the 60's, so one really should wear a sweater, blazer, etc. and pants. Wish we knew this up front. Food was very tasty and nicely presented. Small quantities though, like many gourmet style restaurants. However, both my wife's and my meat entrées were overdone, which was quite surprising. Our server was very friendly, but overall, delivery was painfully slow. Our server actually apologized, without any prompting by us, several times for the long wait for various courses. So, my guess is that this was just a bad night for 1865. Perhaps the manager was not there or distracted in some way. Not sure, but at the very high price of our dinner, these hiccups should not occur. Again, this restaurant has the potential to be really outstanding.

Food was good. Service was good until the bill came. There was a mix up on the bottle of wine I purchased and the waiter became argumentative about it. Had to get the manager involved. After about 30-40 min of waiting it got resolved. Room can be noisy as it is small and you can hear others across the room have a conversation.

Service was terrible for a $300 meal. At this price point you expect wonderful and attentive service. I wanted to pair my wine with the meals but this was impossible because our drinks took about 20 minutes to come out, by the time I got my first glass of wine I had finished the first two entrees.

This is where to go if you are celebrating a special birthday, anniversary or other occasion, as this is an experience. Given this is a four course commitment (and the cost reflects that) it is not a meal to be rushed and they do not. All the courses were perfect. The second course Forest Floor took the prize as most creative presentation of a dish in a very long time. The pork belly had a wonderful side described as similar to corn grits. We couldn't decide on dessert so our server asked chef to do us a tasting platter. If you are put off by the "coldness" of a wine cellar, don't be. We dressed warmly and were fine. I hope they keep the 4 course menu but add an a la carte option. The food/presentation is so exemplary it would allow more people to enjoy.

We had our anniversary dinner at 1865. The food and service were outstanding. The four course menu was very creative with many yummy options such as duck confit and arctic char. Our server Javar was outstanding and made excellent wine recommendations.

My wife and I had a special anniversary dinner here and really enjoyed the entire experience. We went with the suggested wine pairings with each course and enjoyed trying some new choices we may have never thought of. Recommended if you are looking for a quiet, relaxed and romantic dining experience.

This was our fourth time eating in the Wine Cellar. Each time has been a unique and wonderful experience. This time was for our 21st wedding anniversary and they made it a very special night for us. First off, we were seated in "The Nook", which is a little room in the restaurant with only one table and is where they store the Cab-Savs. It is very quiet, intimate and definitely the room for a special dinner. "The Wine Cellar" is not just a name, it is the actual cellar where they store their wines. A little cool so dress appropriately. Frankly, since it is there upscale restaurant I thin patrons should dress upscale also. I do believe at Lear dungarees are banned.
The food was beyond scrumptious and it was difficult to make choices. We made our choices and then they went far above their duties. For the first course we each ordered something different. Instead they brought us a large tasting pale with all four choices on it so we could get a taste of everything. Our second course was "The Forest Floor’ with various locally picked mushrooms on top of another mushroom puree. Very tasty. To get the experience of the forest, plates with pine clippings were filled with liquid dry ice which brought out the natural odor of the forest as dry ice smoke wafted from the plate.
For our entrees, my wife preserved a pork be;Ly dish while I ordered Arctic Char. When the plane arrived they had put an order of each on the plate so we could experience both entrees, again, way above the required order.
Dessert was two different chocolate confection that work perfectly with the meals we had and seems to help cleans our pallets.
For wines , each of us chose to do the suggested pairings with each or our meals. Perfect.
The head of the Cellar, Javar, did most of our interaction, taking our order and bringing the wines, the orders were mostly served by Vanda (SP?), another wonderful Server.
Overall-spectacular.

Good food locally sourced when possible. Like most upscale restaurants the wine is over priced.
Atmosphere is perfect for a special occasion. Service was excellent. Not as chilly as they warn (it is an actual wine cellar).

Bring a sweater because this is truly a wine cellar! Otherwise, this was a fabulous evening of pairings that were spot-on. L'Espalier without the price tag. Romantic apres ski dinner..best around! Enjoy.
