1862 David Walley's Restaurant and Saloon Ratings and Reviews
It has been a few years since our last visit and so we were excited to dine here again. We were not disappointed. Our server Leslie was very attentive and had an excellent suggestion for wine to accompany our dinner selection. We decided not to have an appetizer because we tend to fill up by the time our main dish arrives. That was a good choice as the portion sizes are generous. We both ordered the blue cheese crusted sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes. So delicious! The lemon tart with a burnt sugar topping was amazing! Needless to say, we can't wait to return!
We had a pre fix 3-course menu with our Groupon, which was great and also unfortunate. Only because we couldn't try an entree or two on the regular menu that we'd really wanted to... However, the pre fix menu was definitely great!! Can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu.
Bad service/ poor attituds from staff/ no people skills/ food was just OK on one meal/ very poor on the other/ over priced /not worth another attempt/ its to bad that people who buy these propertys cant get it running in a positive flow. What a waist - never coming back. lower your pricing/ find better staff members to work it/ pay them better/ maybe you'll find some decent people .Get a better chef/ find a way better hostise and waiter staff as well/ lousie people skills in all positions / went there for my 62 birthday. I could have had a better exsperiance at Taco bell /after spending 100 buck and left very disappointed .And we didn't even have any drinks or deserts
1 ISSUE-WE HAD A 5:30 AND ITS STILL COLD IN THE RESTAURANT - I WOULD SUGGEST TURNING ON THE HEAT SOONER. OURSELFS AND OTHERS HAD TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE WINDOW SEATING BECAUSE IT WAS COLD AND THE BOOTH AREA WAS COLD AS WELL. IT WARMED UP AFTER ABOUT 20 - 30 MINUETS WE WERE ABLE TO REMOVE OUR JACKETS. WE ARE LOCALS AND MEMEBERS AND WE WERE CELEBRATING MY MOTHERS BIRTHDAY SHE LOVES YOUR RESTURANT. THE STAFF WAS GREAT AND UNDERSTANDING. FOOD AS ALWAYS IS GREAT.
Appetizer from the bar set off our stomachs but we managed to get through a not so impressive dinner....soup was good pasta was ok desert tasted old the wine was the best part of dinner. The staff overall was putting off a bad vibe. I will not eat here again
We ate here because we were staying at David Walley’s Hot Springs and out of convenience recommended our 6 friends join us. Even though it wasn’t crowded, the hostess seemed challenged by the additional 2 people we wanted to add to our reservation. That took about 20 minutes to adjust our 6 PM reservation. The service was good, but our steak was oily. Veggies were over cooked and salty. Overall it was okay - but not memorable. Automatically added tip on top of corkage fee, so pay attention....
We suggest eating at their pub. Good food and fair prices.
I've eaten at Walley's only a couple of times but each time it was excellent. Yummy food and
good atmosphere . Whether you are sitting on the patio or inside the restaurant or bar it's great.
After driving from Los Angeles to Gardnerville, NV, it's the perfect place for beverages and delicious food. Would highly recommend.
The prix fixe options for the Groupon coupon were limited. The soup and salad were good but not remakable. We both had a pasta main course: the pasta was home made and very good; the Pasta Primavera was bland and the other (the special of the day) was thick and greasy. Neither lived up to our expectations. The bread pudding was dry and tasteless. I have heard that the food is very good at this restaurant but the offering for the Groupon deal was second rate. I'd go back to give the restaurant a second chance, though. The service was very good and the ambiance was warm, rustic and romantic. I hope their regular menu is better than the prix fixe. We'll see.
We always have a great time there but this time our server seem to be more concerned about the employees having their dinner across from us then our dinner. He really never check back with us once we had our dinner yet he was a cross with the other people talking with them. But overall it was a great time
Our reservation was for 5:45 pm. There was roof construction going on (one would think quitting time no later than 5pm on a Friday).
It was very loud with pounding on the roof until around 6:15-30. The roof workers were ignoring restaurant staff requests to stop and go home!
Once they quit it was peaceful and very nice! Ambience very nice, servers and other staff very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable with meal selections.
Several entrees caught my attention, then we both decided on the short ribs which were exceptional! I Had the "special" dessert which was a mango cobbler; good flavor but mangos were a little hard. Hubby had the tiramisu and said it was very good.
A little pricey but all in all a very good service and meal. It would be nice if they had more wine by the glass selections, instead of just their house wine because bottle selections
were fairly high.
This is our second time here when visiting Lake Tahoe in the Fall each year, will come again next year! Worth the drive over the mountain!
We went for our 47th anniversary. Knew we would have a delicious meal in a beautiful setting with attentive service. We always enjoy ourselves there. Since we got there early we spent a little time in the bar. Busy, friendly and they serve a saloon menu in there.
Soup was a bit salty for us and seemed to be a pasta sauce without the pasta. Large portion of Mac and Cheese for kids. The prime rib special was great. Bison ribs were too salty for us and pasta was a bit undercooked.
The Prix Mixe is a great deal with 3 courses.
Lovely ambiance. The bartender was great. When the kitchen made the wrong appetizer he noticed it and took care of it immediately and thengave me a drink on the house for their mistake. I didn't even have to ask! The only thing I disliked was the dessert; chocolate peanut butter bread pudding. It had no chocolate that I could taste. The halibut was excellent as well.
The Mr had the Prix fixe menu, great value & a ton of food for the price. I had a wedge salad that was a regular wedge salad I could have gotten anywhere. My main dish was bison short ribs with pasta, super yummy, tender & flavorful. Great view of the mountains & Carson Valley.
