18 Seaboard Ratings and Reviews
Fabulous, as always! Raleigh's best.
The most consistently delicious food of any restaurant I have ever visited. Including restaurants in p NYC, Chicago, Boston & France.
Gracious service and a lovely atmosphere as well.
On busy nights, a booth helps if you like a quiet conversation. In general one of the best restaurants for quiet conversation (good table separation and acoustics). At particularly busy times, get a booth.
Hope 18 Seaboard stays exactly as it is for years on end. It's a classic!
Always nice to sit by a window - we lucked out. The menu is very expansive for all tastes. The waiter wasn't as good, though he was pleasant. I recommend this place and park in the rear as the front has a dumpster and trash by the steps. The combo of the beer brewing next door is a nice - "get a drink there and then go here for dinner". Nice to walk around Logan's and Ace Hardware prior to seating. A nice experience.
The server was wonderful and her recommendations for both food and beverages were great. I felt that there was just the right amount of attention to the table to meet our needs. Three of us had different fish dishes and sampled each, they were phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Our latest visit showed not much has changed at 18 Seaboard except the menu items. The food is still very good. The shrimp beignets were perfectly cooked as was my filet. My dining companion had the shrimp pasta and it was very good.
Our server was excellent as was all the staff. Chef Smith was frequently in the dining room checking on his guests.
Our server was excellent. She knew all about the menu and the wine list. One of our party was a restaurateur himself. She could converse with him about the wine and the food. He was impressed. Our food was delicious, especially the rib eye. The ginger/peanut butter cookie terrific! And the white chocolate pecan pie, excellent!! Great wine also. Great experience.
We had a wonderful dinner, the cocktails were high quality, and the she crab soup was the best I ever had. Having gotten off to an excellent start, we were very satisfied with everything, especially our friendly waiter. Even though the restaurant got quite busy while we were there, the noise level remained acceptably low, and we were able to continue our conversation. Surprisingly we were able to book a table within the same week. It is close to downtown and popular with foodies, and I had been warned to book ahead. We will definitely eat there again.
The location was very odd - I would not want to go there at night alone. The ambience is stark and the brunch menu minimal. The alcoholic drinks and coffee were good. Omelet just OK with a very large portion of salad which was only greens with a light dressing. It was certainly acceptable but probably not interested in going back.
We have been dining here since it opened. Spent many special occasions and more than one Anniversary Dinner here.
This was the first instance where we received the plated meal, with everything plated in top of each other, the chef compliment sauce poured on top, and my ribeye was pre-sliced.
Don't fix what is not broken. If I get a steak, I want to cut it. I mix different foods together to make bad things taste better. I don't want to pay for spinach smashed into my potatoes.
A delightful meal! We've been to 18 Seaboard several times, but it's been years. I think they've stepped up their game! Both of our seafood focused mains were delicious - the shrimp and grits and the grilled sheepshead. I liked the she crab soup, and my wife loved the baked oysters. As a mark of how much she liked them, she didn't share. We did share the very good creme brulee dessert. The wine list is very good and extremely fairly priced. The only nit to pick was the service. My soup first course arrived after my wife had finished her oysters, and the first wine delivered to the table wasn't what we ordered, the second a different vintage (which the server pointed out). But the food was so good we can overlook little glitches. We'll be back - highly recommended!
From the beginning Chef Jason Smith has held 18 Seaboard and his other restaurants to the highest quality standards, while supporting local growers. It was a pleasure to bring a Charlotte business colleague there to experience those high standards and comfortable atmosphere!
Four of us celebrated a birthday with good wine, a delicious meal, and fun conversation. This is one of our favorite places in town to eat and we had a great time. Thanks for the complimentary appetizer and dessert- delicious!
Great service as always- thank you!

Both Entrées came out soupy instead of saucy. It was like the chef didn’t even bother reducing the wine sauce down. You could still taste the alcohol in the cooking wine they used. Paid 26 dollars for something that anyone could have done much better at their own house.
Don’t waste your time, or your money.
Our service was not up to expectations. One waitress spilled a dish on the pants of a lady at our table. She didn't make any effort to remedy the situation or apologize appropriately. Our group consisted of 6 people who have all been to 18 Seaboard before but agreed that this trip was most likely their last.
What an incredible experience! The wine list has something for every taste. I could go on raving about the food which is masterfully prepared to perfection and beautifully presented, however the people and the service here are really make this restaurant stand out. This place is perfect for any occasion, but if you choose to spend a special day with them, they will do all in their power to make it a memorable one for you. We have been everywhere to eat in Raleigh, and without a doubt this is our favorite. Everyone at 18 Seaboard works together to give a fine dining experience a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend for a romantic night out. Don’t think twice, book a reservation now!!
attended with family to celebrate a birthday. We met on A Sunday for Sunday Brunch. the brunch menu was not extensive but had a good mix of entrees. The food was good and my party of six tried different dishes that we well received. I look forward to coming back and giving the dinner menu a try.
We were in Raleigh for the weekend and dined at the restaurant based on reviews. The ambiance and food were good. However, the service was terrible. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order and another 20 minutes for it to be delivered. She said she would bring bread but did not. We had to ask for the appetizer my wife ordered after mine was delivered. She never asked if we wanted another drink. We were so looking forward to a good dining experience but were disappointed overall.
Excellent staff. Couldn’t have been more attentive and courteous . We really enjoyed our meals. We had Shrimp beignets, goat cheese and apple salad, and she crap soup appetizers, mahi mahi, and a Snapper Hog fish. We’re all delicious. The dessert we ordered was the vanilla pecan pie with a slice of bacon & whipped cream...OMGOODNESS that was divine. The chef also let us sample pumpkin seed white chocolate chip cookies as well. Perfection all around!
Arrived at 7 sharp for our reservation. Seated promptly. By 7:50, only 2 of our four party members had wine. While we had ordered wine for others as well as appetizers, salads, and mains, still nothing even simple pimento cheese and crackers! When the "late" wine finally arrived, it was white not red, despite our server saying what we had ordered was "my favorite". The homemade saltines were thick and soft, almost like stale pita bread. The kale salad and the shrimp beignets were terrific and the main fish dishes made up for the others.
Despite this, our server seemed disinterested in us and we were left to ourselves for LONG stretches. Fortunately, other servers refilled our waters frequently. Our meal lasted for nearly 3 hours, as our check arrived at 9:50. While this might seem reasonable under some circumstances, it seems a bit much for this setting. Overall, a bit of a disappointment since 2 of us had traveled from Maryland and 2 from Chapel Hill for the evening.
