You can beat the service and the food. Warm and homey atmosphere with a menu that is never the same and always delicious.
An amazing experience! The best restaurant in the area and probably in NY.
Having a summer home on Shelter Island, we've been to 18 Bay many times, but last night was one of the best dining experiences ever. This place just keeps getting better every time we visit. The service is impeccable. Jimmy, the Maître d' makes us feel like family every time we're there. The place is absolutely adorable and it gives you the feel of dining in someone's beautiful home. And the food!!! The food is incredible! The first part of the tasting menu always includes a quartet of appetizers. This gives the chefs the opportunity to show their skill and diversity. The pasta course and the main courses are equally delectable. From start to finish, this experience is incredible and is not to be missed. Worth a trip to Shelter Island!
Great dinner birthday celebration! Love the food, ambiance and service. It’s like Cheers for gourmet dinner. Thanks to Adam, Elizabeth, Jimmy, Carolina and the rest of 18 Bay!
Exceptional food and service - constantly creative and exciting - competes with the best of the Hamptons.
We enjoyed our anniversary dinner at this cozy restaurant. The ambiance is romantic and pretty quiet. The price -fix menu was a little limiting but very tasty. The cocktails were delicious, hand-crafted concoctions. I would say the only drawback is the portions are small for what you are paying. Good restaurant for special occasion or small group dinner.
Food was very disappointing despite the pride with which the owner presented the dishes. The four appetizers were fussy but uninspired, the main fish course was fine and the desert cake tasted store-bought. Overall, a let-down from all the internet and local hype. Vine Street Cafe the next night for dinner was less pretentious and much better.
Amazing foods. Very creative. Comprehensive wine list with the best local N.Y. wines.
Dessert was underwelming.
Fabulous evening all around excellence from start to finish if you can I would highly recommend going it will not be regretted
This is our second time at this wonderful restaurant. The food is so beautifully created, presented, and served that I have to thank everyone involved in putting this special place together. Jimmy could not be more gracious and knowledgeable about cocktails and wine, and the chefs are masters.
I look forward to going again, and again.
Food is quite good. Very quaint environment, but the acoustics are terrible -very loud - simply does not match the ambiance. We have enjoyed chef's choice dining with wine pairing many times at some of the best restaurants in NYC as well as all over the US and abroad. However here, we do not recommend wine pairing with dinner. While most of their wine choices are good, their timing is off. They offer relatively small pours and serve long before the course the wine is paired with is received. Much better off choosing a nice bottle yourself that works for the meal, so that you can enjoy your wine at your own pace throughout. The overall value here does not mesh with the cost.
We really enjoyed the exquisite food, and the wine pairing. The appetizer sampler was amazing in its variety of textures and flavor, the lobster linguini was delicious and both the fish and the steak entre were lovely. We had an excellent time and would certainly return.
Wonderful food and caring attention to service and food! Very good!
Jimmy our server was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine presented to us for last night. I am a vegetarian and he had no problem accommodating me . We will definitely be back!
Exceptional locally driven cuisine. Every dish was on point. Service was very friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed.
Everything was terrific. The food from appetizer to dessert was beyond expectations. It's pricey but worth every dollar. Even our cocktails were good. I heard about it through a friend and it exceeded my expectations.
Exceptional food - go experience this wonderful creative dining experiences. Best food in the Hamptons. Loved it. Highly recommended!
Just superlative everything! A splurge but given the quality of the food/ambiance/service and tasting menu a great value for such excellence - truly one of the best restaurants anywhere let alone Shelter Island/Hamptons. Jimmy, the chefs and the whole team just get it - they have guest service, food & wine in their DNA and always make for a memorable experience that has us talking about it for days and leaves our tastebuds crying for all those impeccable flavors & nuances - fresh, local, creative and SUBLIME...
Fabulous food, attentive service, artfully served courses, overall- amazing dinner
What a great experience! Our server was friendly, ambience was cozy, we loved the tasting menu approach, which they are happy to adapt for dietary restrictions . The food was beautifully prepared, super fresh, and absolutely delicious. As our server said, "you only have one decision to make," and that was the entrée. Worth the ferry trip over. I thought it was a very good value as well. We had the wine paring and that rounded out a wonderful meal with excellent pairing choices. I highly recommend.
Jimi runs a welcoming establishment with impeccable service. Innovative menu and cocktail list along with a great wine list are the highlights. Drop in for dinner and you will not be disappointed
We just had a weekend at Shelter Island and the dinner we had here was by far the best we had.
Lovely spot and good service but the food was just ok.
Better options for an expensive meal on Shelter. I wanted to like it because the manager was so sweet but I was underwhelmed with the food. Wine by the glass list very interesting, though.
It has been our favorite restaurant for special occasions for several years, and the food, with the exception, perhaps, of dessert, has always been excellent. The recent visit was disappointing, however. The four-item appetizer was as special as always, but the pasta course, usually delicious, was tasteless—a thin, unidentifiable broth with barely a hint of the crabmeat that was supposed to be in it. The dessert was worse than usual: a little disc of panna cotta that was also tasteless. The main fish course was excellent, the steak was very good, but the vegetables accompanying the steak were, again, tasteless, the scallions chewy, and not in a good way. We have always felt the prix fixe, formerly $68, was worth every penny, but this time, the meal was not worth $75, or even close. Maybe it was an off night, it was Friday of Labor Day weekend, but we arrived at 6:30 before the place began to fill up.
The food was delicious and creative. I loved the tasting menu with locally grown produce.
Charming Shelter Island spot that's better than ever. Food is delicious and the ambiance is very relaxing and low key with a touch of sophistication. It's so lovely to dine with white tablecloths (a rarity these days). The wine list is unusual with a huge wine by glass selection. The tasting menu is fun and fabulous. It's not over the top gourmet but it uses local ingredients in a creative way that is still rustic enough to make this a place we enjoy going very often.
Food was good. Service somewhat slow; but very friendly. Prix Fixe menu.
Loved the porch dining and the attentive staff. The food was superb especially the halibut. The 4 taste antipasto was wonderful with local produce. The homemade spaghetti in the pink clam sauce was excellent. Highly recommend!
The food was exceptional ...very very good, a chefs tasting menu is always a fun experience. The service is far from exceptional. The meal is not cheap and that's all well and good BUT for those prices at a place that only does a chefs tasting the service needs to improve . I should not have to ask for bread, you should not have to flag down the waitress to poor another glass of wine from a bottle you bought , I should not have to flag down a waitress 5 minutes after finishing my cocktail to order another, my husband finished his glass of wine and the waitress came by the table twice and never asked if he needed another one. And the amount of time in between the courses was entirely too long. Luckily the food is good or I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
The food was awesome! Some of the best I have had in the Hamptons in some time (even better than the hot summer pop up in east)! Sit back and enjoy the journey. Highly recommended.
My husband and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at 18 Bay. Service was impeccable! The staff was efficient and couldn't be more attentive and helpful. The host was knowledgeable and friendly, and very much involved in the operation- delivering dishes, describing ingredients, offering wine suggestions and making sure everyone was happy. The menu was 4 courses and prix fixed. Everything was delicious, and we savored each bite! This restaurant was the highlight of our visit to Shelter Island!
This was our second visit to 18 Bay. We especially chose to dine there because if was for our anniversary and we wanted a special restaurant.
It exceeded all of our expectations - the expertise of the staff, the quality of the dinner, the pacing of the courses - all perfect.
Thanks so much. - See you next year.
We eat at 18 Bay several times a year and have never been disappointed. This wasn't the greatest meal we've had there (the appetizers were so-so, everything else was excellent), but it was fine. As always, be sure to check out the menu before you go, you are restricted to picking between an entree of fish or meat. Everything else is fixed. Expect to spend $150/pp if you have any alcohol, more if you get carried away on the wine selection. We usually go on Sundays when its quieter and service is excellent. It can be kind of hectic on a Saturday during the high season.
The food is wonderful. The format is unusual, so you need to go prepared: You can choose one of two entrees; antipastos, pasta and dessert are all mandated (but they do try to accommodate allergies, etc.). You can check this week's menu on the restaurant's website, which we always do before going, given the format. In suitable weather, eating on the porch is strongly recommended.
The food at 18 Bay is very good. The service unfortunately is inconsistent. They seem attentive but then they will forget to bring butter after it was requested twice. Wine service is slow. If you request an additional glass of wine to go with a course that might have already arrived, you are almost finished with it before the wine arrives. We still enjoyed our meal and would return hopefully to more consistent service.
We picked the restaurant for my birthday. I read about it online and it got a great rating. Everything delivered. Service was terrific. Our server was a sweet girl who listened to our requests and took care of us. The food was fantastic and the ambiance was perfect. We sat on the front porch which was just terrific.
Most restaurants are very expensive in Shelter Island and most of them are not worth the cost! However, 18 Bay is an amazing place if you are a foodie! There is a limited choice because there is price fixe tasting menu that changes each week. Every morsel was truly delicious. I always prefer to sit outside if possible. In my opinion, best restaurant in the area-- including the overpriced "popular" restaurants in Sag Harbor and East Hampton .
Very creative 4 four course meal for $75 a person. These dishes are not like any other found on Shelter Island.
Not just a great meal, an extraordinary dining experience.
Nothing compares on eastern LI.
A "hiding in plain sight" gem of a restaurant.
Our service was extraordinary. The food was impeccable. We asked if we could personally thank the chef for our meal. She can out and spoke us to about the preparation of our menu choices. This was an added treat to our anniversary dinner.
