17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Love the restaurant and bar area. We are regulars to the bar but have not had dinner at the 1790 in awhile. We were seated very quickly, even before our reservation time and that was wonderful. Waiter, Jefferson, was very good and attentive. My wife had the lobster pasta which was excellent. I had the special for the evening which was stuffed filet of flounder. Not so good. Fish was extremely overcooked and the whole dish had no seasoning, very little flavor. Only seasoning on the entire dish was the rice. I could not even tell what the flounder was stuffed with as it had no flavor at all? Strange. Might have been an off night for the kitchen as the place had a lot of diners that evening. We will return. I usually get the Filet or Glazed Sirloin when I dine here. That has never disappointed.
We enjoyed the ambience but were told a pianist was coming and he never showed.
The She Crab soup was fresh and tasted wonderful and so were the Fried Green Tomatoes but the entree was blah!
I ordered Boursin Chicken and it was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and haricot verts but instead it came out with what seemed to be frozen veggies like succotash that had some onions and peppers thrown in. The chicken did not have a lot of flavor. My husband ordered the salmon and risotto. It wasn’t too flavorful just kinda lacking something.
We were celebrating an anniversary so chose this establishment based on Trip Advisor reviews for the ambiance, history, menu and live piano music. We were warmly greeted by a gracious and helpful hostess upon arrival and given a choice of several available tables which was nice. The historic charm, cozy romantic ambiance with brickwalls, wood burning fireplaces and soft live piano music more than met our expectations. But it pretty much ends there. Our server was personality zero, uninspired, not interested in explaining much about the menu... just acted like an ‘order taker’. After asking for a seconds on biscuits he confirmed 3 times if we ‘really wanted them’ before finally deciding to bring us each another one. We didn’t feel he cared at all about our level of enjoyment much less making celebrating a milestone special at all. The food which followed was fine but uninspired and felt mediocre at best. My chef special of the day, a pork chop with special house barbecue glaze, sweet potatoe mash and seasoned collards was a disappointment. The chop was overly fatty and the glaze tasted as if right out of a bottle. The sweet potatoes had no seasonings or anything.... just mashed like I make at home. The collards were the best part of my meal. Our other choice was the eggplant, which was tasty but smothered in cheeses drowning any eggplant flavor, so not a standout dish either. The published side starch was not available so ordinary white rice was substituted instead. We did enjoy the honey buttered biscuits and our wine choices though. For the price which is on the higher end this restaurant did not deliver.
I got the blacken New York Strip. Being from Louisiana, I harshly judge anything called Blackened. Well, these people know exactly what they are doing. Mouth-watering awesomeness. The entire meal was perfect and the restaurant was awesome. The bar is really a cool place too.
So good, we went twice! Great intimate dining experience, good food and nice
wine list. Plus the friendly, but unobtrusive wait staff. The separate bar area was a fun, lively atmosphere. Lots of tours passing through; just chatting with people on the tour was great fun. Highly recommend.
A special dinner for my wife, son and myself. The drinks were excellent - (Thanks to Scott the bartender) my wife loves traditional side cars with a sugar rim - it was perfect!
The honey rolls to start our meal as we sat down were served warm, sweet and thoroughly enjoyable! For appetizers we shared the escargot- which was impeccable and a bowl of she crab soup also full of crab meat and served steaming hot again excellent
The crawfish étouffée was adequate and least favorite of the meal. My wife is from the TX/LA area and has generational family recipes for étouffée.
My son had the filet mignon and it was served perfectly - he was all smiles.
My wife and I shared the eight rib rack of lamb and not only was it excellent it was so much food we couldn’t do desert.
A new favorite in Savannah and one on our list of must visit each time we return!
Loved this restaurant!! The food was delicious and the service was fantastic! I will recommend this place for anyone in Savannah. Great value for the quality of the meal. The dessert was an absolute highlight, everything was amazing. I have dietary restrictions and the chef made me a delicious meal to accommodate them. Thank you for a great experience!
Always wanted to try, and we weren't disappointed. The hostess took excellent care to seat us quickly. Jefferson was our server. He was okay, but not necessarily engaging. W ordered drunks and then dinner, which came almost too quickly. The Neptune was rich and flavorful, didn't really need the risotto. My chicken was amazing and flavorful. The biscuits with honey were tasty and my family devoured them. My husband had a bone in pork shank, sweet potato mash and collard greens. He was in heaven. All were just right. The server of the table next to us shared ghost stories with the teens and we were lucky to overhear them. The manager also stopped at their table to share more. Wish we'd had that type of customer care. Hence, they lost 1 star. Highly recommend!
The restaurant would have received a much higher rating if we did not have to wait so long between our appetizer and entree and when the entrees arrived they were cold. The server must have thought we were not that important. We had reservations at 5:45 so we could make a ghost tour at 8:20. Usually plenty of time for drinks dinner coffee and dessert. We had to leave before dessert. Didn’t time the wait between apps and entree but it was far too long. Food was presented well and had good flavor but sat in the kitchen too long and was cold.
We went there for Christmas dinner. Although, upon arriving, we were surprised to find that they were only offering a buffet and not their full menu, we decided to stay. We were not disappointed! The food was varied, and delicious. It consisted of mostly traditional Christmas foods, but also had several unique dishes. The taste was outstanding and we were very pleased that we made the decision to try it. Even though I love their full menu and we try to stop here every visit to Savannah, it was a successful and yummy Christmas dinner. Thank you for the great experience!
We were here for the Christmas buffet. Food was very good and the buffet was well maintained by the attentive staff. They all worked smoothly together to keep the offerings fresh and plentiful. They made it look easy, but you knew they were well trained professionals. The waiters were pleasant and accomadating. The piano player was excellent as was the wine selection. Holidays are hit or miss for dining. 1790 never disappoints.
We shared a Christmas Eve dinner with our adult family at 17Hundred 90 Inn, and were delighted with the service, the high quality of the food and its presentation. The wine list was extensive and the recommendations of our waiter were accurate and most enjoyable. The decor was most attractive and festive, conducive to a relaxing evening together.
We would not hesitate to return if we were to visit Savannah again. It was a highlight in this beautiful city.
This is one of many opportunities my husband and I have taken to eat at this exceptional restaurant. The reason we continue to come back when Savannah offers a wide variety of quality restaurants is explained by the food, feeling and consistency we find at the 17 hundred 90 dining experience. First thing we experience is the atmosphere that takes us to a restaurant we visited in York England. Fantastic fire places, wood beams, flagstone floors and delightful music provided by the pianist. Next we peruse the menu finding favorites we have tried before, as well as new additions that keep their menus and wine list current. The flavor, presentation and quantity never disappoint. While the price may seem high for some diners, I feel I get a European experience without the hassle of traveling to England, which really is a cost savingings. The staff, entertainment, and experience all culminate into a perfect addition to a perfect evening.
Wonderful apps, great piano, service with personality, large portions and relaxed lounge with seasoned local crowd and tourists in one of the great historic buildings of Savannah. Chef was also a pleasure to meet and speak with about restaurant, history and local fresh imgredients.
Food should have three things: Appearance, Taste & Tenderness.
Appearance was about what one would expect in a Diner. (2)
Taste was good. (4)
Tenderness was lacking. Meat was tough. (2) (Over-cooked)
Facilities (tables, seating, etc) should be of aqequate construction. No rocking tables lacking level. Seating should be comfortable. This facility had neither.
We celebrated our 50th Anniversary at this restaurant and could not have been more pleased. From timely seating to menu to quality of the food and service was all outstanding. In addition, there was a piano player that was incredibly talented and just added to the ambiance. We recommend this restaurant to all visitors when in Savannah.
